SOMETIMES THE DEAD COME KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR
FAR AWAY FROM NATASHA WAS A BEAUTIFUL CASTLE. A tall, bushy-haired girl looked up from her book as she sipped her tea. "Hermione!" A voice exclaimed, getting her attention. Turning to face the sound, she raised her eyebrow at her best friend, who had a smile on her face. "Hermione put down your book for once! The other schools are about to arrive." Padma scolded, swatting at her friend's arm.
Rolling her brown eyes, she slipped a bookmark on the page she was reading and set it in her bag. Giving her friend a sarcastic smile, she gestured to her bag. "Happy now?" She asked, a little annoyed with her best friend. She was very hooked on the book, and now she would have to wait 'til she went to bed to finish the chapter. Padma rolled her eyes, a small smile on her face. "Hermione, you know I love books as much as you. But sometimes, you need to put it down. Headmaster Dumbledore is about to announce something big, and I think you'd want to see it. Plus, you haven't even touched your food. Eat!"
Glancing down at her plate of food, she picked up her fork and stabbed it into a brussel sprout. Putting it into her mouth, she chewed slowly as she glanced about the great hall. Students all around her were chatting excitedly -- Gryffindor being the loudest out of all the houses. Scoffing quietly, she wondered whatever made her ever want to be in that house. She was very much happy in Ravenclaw, thank you very much!
It was probably her wanting to prove that she was a good person, compared to her birth parents. Now she realized that she could still be a good person, just in a different house. It wasn't necessarily the house that made the person bad, it was the person and the influences they were around. It wasn't just Slytherins that were the 'dark wizards'. Many Hufflepuffs, Gryffindors, and Ravenclaws had become dark wizards.
Her head snapped towards the Headmaster as he cleared his throat, clapping his hands together. "First," He started, "Now that we're all settled in and sorted, I'd like to make an announcement. This castle will not only be your home this year but home to some very special guests as well. You see, Hogwarts has been chosen..." He trailed off as Flinch made his way up the man, muttering about something.
After a few seconds, the balding man ran out of the Great Hall, and Dumbledore continued his speech. "So, Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event, the Triwizard Tournament. Now for those of you who do not know the Triwizard Tournament brings together three schools for a series of magical contests. For each school, a single student is selected to compete. Let me be clear. If you are chosen, you stand alone. And trust me when I say these contests are not for the fainthearted. But more of that later."
Tilting her head to the side, her eyes widened in awe. A tournament... Of course, she'd never join but... it's amazing that her school was chosen to host it.
"For now, please welcome me in joining the lovely ladies and the dashing boys of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and their Headmistress, Madame Maxime!" He exclaimed, gesturing to the doors. Turning around, boys and girls of all ages and races entered the hall, clad in periwinkle uniforms. She watched as they sprouted butterflies, two girls dancing and flipping. Her eyes widened at the tall woman, who seemed to be even taller than Hagrid! "Bloody Hell..." She muttered, watching the woman walk down the hall.
Dumbledore shook the hand of the woman, before quickly running back up to the podium. "And now, our friends from the North! Please Welcome the Proud Sons and Daughter of Durmstrang and their Headmaster, Igor Karkaroff!" They entered loudly, standing proud as they twirled around their batons. Her eyes widened as they blew out fire. Turning to her friend, she whispered quietly. "Is that really safe? It's getting really close to the students upfront." Padma hummed, not even paying attention to what her friend was saying.
Rolling her brown eyes, she leaned back and crossed her eyes, locking eyes with one of the guys. He was quite handsome, she'll admit. He winked, her cheeks warming up.
"Now the moment you've all been waiting for; the champion selection!" Dumbledore smiled as he looked at all the students. Hermione watched as the old man walked up to the blue fire, carefully watching it.
She gasped as she watched the blue fire turn a bright red, shooting out a piece of parchment. Dumbledore quickly grabbed the parchment, looking it over.
"The Durmstrang Champion is Viktor Krum!" He announced, (said school going wild as they watched their champion embrace their headmaster) Viktor walked up to the old man and shook his hand.
The fire changed to a bright red once more, another piece of parchment flying out. "The Champion of Beauxbatons is Fleur Delacour!" He exclaimed; the French school cheered in excitement. Hermione's leg shook anxiously as she waited for the Hogwarts Champion to be announced. The fire lit up once more and outflown a piece of parchment.
"The Hogwarts Champion is Cedric Diggory!" She smiled, clapping her hands politely as she watched the Hufflepuff walk up to the headmaster. "Excellent! We now have our three champions! But in the end... only one will go down in history. Only one will hoist this chalice of champions; this vessel of victory. The Triwizard Cup!..." The clapping died down when the fire lit up once more.
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she watched the fire. What was going on with it? Why was it red again? The fire burst up, the final piece of parchment flying out of it and into Dumbledore's hands. His hands shook as he read the paper, his mouth wide open in shock.
"Rosa Potter?..." She heard him muttering under his breath quietly, the girl sucking in a deep breath. How was this possible? She never showed up to school here in her first year, how was her name there? "Rosa Potter? Who did this? Is this some kind of a joke to you?" He yelled, losing his compromise, no longer the kind and friendly man. "Whoever did this, you will have severe consequences!"
Sharing a glance with her best friend, Hermione knew it wasn't gonna be a normal year.
"WHAT IS THIS?!" Sirius raged, as he pointed at the piece of parchment. "My Goddaughter hasn't been seen alive since she was 1, and now someone's trying to put her in this game? Albus, you better find out who did this." He snarled, pointing his finger in the old man's face.
Dumbledore nodded, looking down gravely. "I will find out who did this, Sirius..." He muttered, clenching his jaw. A clearing of a throat all interrupted the Order from their thoughts, turning their attention to Severus.
"If I may, Headmaster..." He drawled out, a scowl on his face. "If Rosa Potter is alive, she could be at risk of losing her magic. That could mean death for her. Perhaps, we should try to find her?--"
"--We've been doing that for the past 2 years, you slimy snake--!"
"Be Quiet, Mutt. Albus, as you did send her to her sister's family, perhaps they sent her away. Perhaps the reason our searches haven't been working is that she goes by a different name, or is in a different country, even. I suggest doing an inheritance test, as it would be able to tell us where she is, what her name is, and if she's still alive." Severus suggested, looking at the group with a raised eyebrow. Honestly, no wonder they haven't found her yet. They've just been going on about information since she was a year old; it's changed by now. She could have different hair, for all they know.
Albus hummed, stroking his long beard. Severus did have a point. "He does have a point. The Goblins don't care what we come there for. If we bring Sirius in for a test, it will be able to tell us where she is. You named her your heir and James and Lily made you blood-adopt her in case anything bad happened to them, or her."
"Then, when should we do it, Albus?" Molly asked, grasping her husband's arm.
"As soon as possible."
Sirius glanced around nervously, playing with his jacket. Feeling someone grab him, and pull him close, he looked up to see Remus. The werewolf gave the man a gentle smile and squeezed his side. Man, he loved Remus. When he came to Hogwarts and heard his little Rosie wasn't there, he nearly lost himself in grief and anger.
But... Remus was there. Remus helped him, after all, he had done. He had helped Sirius get back on his feet, as best as he could. He helped Sirius capture Peter and get his freedom back. However, no matter how much Remus made him happy, he still didn't feel whole.
He had failed Lily and James. He was supposed to take in Rosa if anything happened to them, and instead of raising their daughter, he went after that bastard Peter and got himself arrested for a crime he didn't commit. His Goddaughter wasn't even at Lily's god-awful sisters' house!
He had no idea where she was, or how she was! Did she have family, or was she all alone? Did she know about magic, or have no idea why she could move things with her mind? Was she happy? Did she have a good life? He wanted to know so bad, but at the time... If she's happy and has a family, he doesn't wanna ruin that.
He's already screwed up as it is, he doesn't wanna ruin her family. If she did have a family and wanted nothing to do with him, well... He'd let her. He'd choose her happiness over his any day. But, if she did want to get to know him, he would make sure she had the best life possible.
He would make sure not to fail Lily and James once more. Snapping out of his head, he heard Remus clear his throat. Blinking a few times, he looked at the Goblin in front of him. "We're here for an inheritance test for Mr. Black," Remus stated.
The Goblin nodded and yelled something in gobbledegook. A few moments later, a mean-looking Goblin appeared in front of the two and gestured for them to follow. "I am Buglock, the keeper of the Black's estate. Why have you come here for an inheritance test? You came here for one in your 20s, yes?" He questioned, opening a door to a fancily decorated office.
Sirius sat down in one of the chairs, crossing his two legs. "Yes, well... I need to find my Goddaughter, and I believe this may help us." Sirius explained to the Goblin, who simply hummed and snapped his fingers, a few items appearing in front of them.
Buglock unraveled the parchment and gestured for Sirius to give him his hand. Unsheathing a dagger, he quickly sliced the man's palm, and faced it towards the parchment, letting it drop for a few minutes before healing the man's wound. "Give it a few minutes." Buglock grinned, still amused by the look on Sirius' face.
"Couldn't have warned me, huh?" Sirius grumbled to his boyfriend, pouting slightly. Remus chuckled, giving Sirius a kiss to the head. "Quit being a big baby, Sirius." Remus chided playfully.
Soon enough, the test was ready and Sirius quickly grabbed it, skipping all the stuff until he got to the family part.

"She's alive!" Sirius cheered, clutching Remus tightly. His baby was alive! She was okay! However, the smile slowly slipped off his face, pulling back, his lips parted in shock. "Reggie is dead?..." His voice cracked as he thought of his little brother, cold in the ground.
"I'm sorry, love," Remus whispered, rubbing the man's arm. Sirius shook his head, sucking in a large gulp of air. "No, it's alright. He knew what he was getting into. I just... I just wish I knew sooner. I just thought he had gotten out of it, moved somewhere else, and was living a quiet life. Guess that wasn't true..."
Sirius' leg shook anxiously as he waited for Albus to come and take him and Remus to New York. "Are you sure this is a good idea, Rem?" He blurted out, unable to keep his thoughts to himself. He's always been one to blurt out his thoughts the second he thinks of them.
"I'm sure everything will be okay, Sirius." Remus stroked Sirius' arm softly, a kind and understanding smile on his face. The black-haired man nodded, taking in a deep breath and exhaling, trying to calm down his nerves. "He's here, Sirius," Remus announced, nudging his shoulder.
He opened his grey eyes and looked at the headmaster, who was holding the portkey they were going to take. "Are you ready?" The old man asked quietly, looking just as emotional as Sirius. They both nodded, and grasped the portkey, disappearing before landing in an alleyway in New York.
Sirius shrugged his jacket off, and tied it around his waist as he looked around. This was the apartment building his Goddaughter lived in. Feeling his heart speed up, he quickly grabbed Remus' hand and dragged him into the apartment building, going up to the elevator and clicking the floor Rosa-- No! Natasha! 'She goes by Natasha, Sirius! Don't forget!' He reminded himself, as the elevator dinged, signaling they were on the floor.
Walking up to her door, he summoned up all his Gryffindor courage and knocked on the door, rocking back and forth on his feet. After a few moments of waiting there, the door opened, and there stood his Goddaughter. Feeling tears well up in his eyes, he gave the girl a watery smile.
"Hello, Natasha. I'm Sirius, Your Godfather."
