Breaks and promises
Clarke woke up earlier than Lexa which was quite rare as Lexa usually woke up earlier. On the rare occasions Clarke woke up earlier, she loved watching Lexa sleep. Clarke always said Lexa was the most beautiful person she’d ever met and still is. Clarke watched Lexa sleeping, the rise and fall of her chest.
“It’s rude to stare, my love.” Lexa whispered.
Clarke winced, “Sorry did I wake you? I didn’t mean to…”
Lexa smiled, “It’s fine. I probably should get up now though.”
“Wait why don’t you rest a little more? You’re pregnant and —”
“Clarke. I’ll be fine.” Lexa reassured her wife. “If anything happens, I’ll tell you okay?”
Clarke relented and nodded. “But please be careful. I don’t want what happened last time to happen again.” Lexa kissed Clarke.
“It won’t” Lexa got up and then turned around to ask, “Will you do my braids?”
Clarke smiled, “Always.” Lexa loved it when Clarke did her braids. She loved seeing Clarke gently brush her hair then put her hair into braids.
“Finished.” Clarke said, after a while.
“Thank you, ai hodnes.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.” And for that moment, it was enough.

Raven stormed out of the room angrily going to her office/workplace. She had just finished another fight with Ontari, they had been fighting a lot lately. This one had been about Raven saying Ontari wasn't helping enough with Dylan because Raven had felt that her wife wasn’t helping a lot. All Ontari did was cry all day. Raven had her own problems and she couldn’t handle raising a baby on her own. She walked into her workplace, which was a room dedicated to making new inventions. She took a few deep breaths to calm down.

Ontari sighed. She couldn’t help being defensive when Raven said that she wasn’t helping enough. It hurt her and she just argued back too. Ontari realised their marriage was quickly falling apart and it was scary. She loved Raven but lately all they did was fight. She picked Dylan up, “Hey little guy. I hope me and your mommy get happy together again, huh?” She kissed him on the forehead. But what Raven said hurt and she knew what she said also hurt Raven. Ontari knew if Raven and her broke apart, she had nothing left anymore. Except her brother, but she still hadn’t had the courage to see him. What would he think of her? Who did he think she was?
Ontari jiggled Dylan on her hip, he had just finished crying, he seemed to sense when she and Raven were fighting. Other than everything, Ontari still had her headaches to worry about. They got bad, sometimes, really bad She sighed. Sometimes she wished she couldn’t feel. There was a way. But Ontari looked at Dylan and said to herself, “When you were born, I made you a promise to always do the best for you and your mommy, even if it meant hurting me.”

“Lexa, give Hazel to me. I can carry her, be careful.” Clarke chided gently to Lexa.
Lexa laughed, “Clarke, it’s fine. She’s a baby.”
“She’s nearly one.”
“I remember when she was still a month old.”
“She grew up so fast.” Clarke said, with a small sad smile.
Lexa leaned forward and kissed the tip of her wife’s nose. “But hey, we’ll watch her grow up together and we’ll grow old together. Like I promised you and you promised me.” Clarke smiled and kissed Lexa.
“Should we tell Aden about the baby?” Lexa whispered, scared her teenage son would hear.
“I don’t know. Should we? It’s a bit early.”
“There’s still a chance I might lose it… I don’t want him going through the heartbreak.” Lexa said.
“Hey. Don't think like that. I think he would be happier if we told him than us not telling him.” Clarke said.
Lexa sighed, “ I don’t know.”
“Hey. It’s fine. We’ll think about it.” Clarke rubbed Lexa’s arm.

Raven knocked on Octavia’s door. “Hey!” Octavia opened the door. “What’s going on? Usually your other half would be sticking with you.”
“C — can we talk?” Raven asked.
“Of course, come in.”
“Ontari and I, we keep arguing. I don’t know what to do– I–I just don’t know.” Raven sighed.
Octavia spoke up, “ Well maybe you two should talk. Or well, take a break?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well you two are both struggling with your own thing and don’t have time to give each other any grace. And you’re both stubborn. So maybe take a break and give each other space to work on your selves.” Octavia explained.
“Oh. I’ll think about it. Thanks, O.”
“Or if she did anything wrong, I could go yell at her.”
Raven half laughed, “Octavia!”
“Hey. You’re my best friend. No one is harming you.”
Raven smiled, “Thank you O. Now let’s talk about your baby. 8 months now, huh? We’ll be receiving a new addition soon.”
“Linc and I have thought of a name. But…” Octavia said as soon as Raven perked up, “We won’t be telling anyone until they’re born.”
“Aww. Not even for super special aunt?”
Octavia laughed, “No.”
