Chapter 1
I thought about the conversation I'd just had. I received a letter today saying I had been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I struggled to believe that magic was real but I'm a Lycan. Why can't wizards and witches be real if Lycans and Werewolves are? I was told by my parents that they adopted me when I was two. They're Lycans and immediately realized I was one too. I shifted for the first time three months later (my third birthday. Apparently, I'd been in the orphanage for seven and a half months. I was found on the orphanage's doorstep on October 31st, 1981). My parents may have adopted me but I'm still their daughter. They love me and care for me. Blood doesn't make someone family. You can choose your family as much as you can choose your friends. My parents are my parents. I choose them as my family just as they choose me as their family. When they saw my letter, they told me that their parents were Lycans and Pureblood wizards/witches. My dad's parents were Theodore Nott Sr (and dad was born on April 2nd, 1958 when Theodore was 29 years old) and Rachel Nott née Selwyn (who was 23 years old). My mom's parents were Dionysus Yaxley and Ferula Yaxley née Abbott. They both have brothers. My dad's brother is roughly my age and my mom's brother is two years (and a few months) older than her as Corban Yaxley was born in 1956.
It was a lot of information for me to take in. Their parents had erased their memories and Corban's memories of their existence as they were ashamed of having squibs as children. My parents met and realized that they were mates. They told me all about Pureblood culture. I was eager to learn. There are many Pureblood families but the Sacred 28 are the most important. The Sacred 28 is made up of Abbott, Avery, Black, Bulstrode, Burke, Carrow, Crouch, Fawley, Flint, Gaunt, Greengrass, Lestrange, Longbottom, Macmillan, Malfoy, Nott, Ollivander, Parkinson, Prewett, Rosier, Rowle, Selwyn, Shacklebolt, Shafiq, Slughorn, Travers, Weasley, and Yaxley. Out of these 28, only five are Lycan families: Parkinson, Black, Nott, Selwyn, and Yaxley. My parents, their parents, and their brothers are all full Lycans. Just like me. However, there are two half-Lycans currently from the Sacred 28 families. Nymphadora Tonks (daughter of Ted Tonks (Muggleborn) and Andromeda Tonks née Black) and Draco Malfoy (son of Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa Malfoy née Black). As Ted Tonks and Lucius Malfoy are not Lycan or half-Lycan, this means that Narcissa and Andromeda have not met their mates yet. Lycans cannot have non-Lycans as their mate unless the non-Lycan is another species that have mates (my parents gave me the example of Veelas).
My parents told me not all mates are of the opposite sex. They explained to me that some Lycans have mates of the same sex. Then, they explained to me that a Lycan's mate(s) are supposed to be perfect for the Lycan and vice versa. Are my mate(s) of the same sex to me? Or the opposite sex? They told me about a Lycan's dynamic (which we receive when we reach 16 (which is a Lycan's age of maturity)). They told me Lycans can love people who aren't their mate(s). However, when they meet their mate, if their mate proves themselves worthy, they will leave the person they love to be happy with their mate. I thought this was sad but my parents told me that Lycans can be happy without their mate(s) but they won't feel complete or entirely happy until they are with their mate(s). This made me feel a little better. I felt a hole inside of me for as long as I could remember. Is that because I haven't met my mate(s)? My parents seem to think so. So far... This is the best birthday yet.
Over the next year, I learn as much as I can about the wizarding world and I have my parents tell me more about Lycans. I may meet my mate(s) before I turn 16, but I won't realize they are my mate(s) until I see them after my 16th birthday. My mate(s) won't know I am their mate until I turn 16 either. Right now, it's August 30th, 1991. I heard a knock at the door. "Mom! Dad! Someone's at the door!"
"I'm coming, sweetie! I'm coming!" I hear my dad yell. He walks past me and I hear him open the door. He says something to whoever is at the door and then I hear the door shut.
"Dad?" My mom comes into the room and sits next to me. Dad comes in with a woman. She's really pretty but she's wearing some odd clothes. God, she smells good... She's a Lycan! An Omega... I think.
"Hello, Hermione." Her voice... I could listen to it for hours. "I'm Minerva McGonagall. I'll be your Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts. That is if you've decided to attend?"
"Yes. I want to go." I beam at her and she smiles. She's so pretty... Fuck, I'm gay. Fuck! This is not the best time to realize this! My mate(s) will be of the same sex. I'm sure.
"Good. Then, I'm here to take you to Diagon Alley for your necessary equipment... I can also tell that, like your parents, you are a Lycan... I'm sure you can tell I'm also a Lycan?" I nodded. "Well, if you ever need to let out your Lycan side, come to me so I can take you into the Forbidden Forest. It's not safe for anyone to go in alone." I nodded again. We went to Diagon and got me my stuff. McGonagall already had some money for us. I didn't ask where she got it from. "Now, I need to visit Gringott's. Is there anything you may want from there?" I thought for a moment.
"Do they do heritage tests?"
"Yes. I assume your parents told you about what a heritage test is in the Wizarding World?" I nodded. "Yes, well... I did recognize them. I still can't believe their parents did that to them. Why would you want a heritage test?"
"They are my parents but not biologically. I was left in an orphanage when I was two. I want to know who my parents are." She nodded and took us to Gringott's. She did her business with the goblin before requesting the heritage test. I did the test and was given the results.
Blood Status: Pureblood AND Full Lycan.
Name: Hermione Merope Riddle.
Blood Status of Paternal Parent: Pureblood. Paternal Parent's Name: Tom Marvolo Riddle (Full Lycan/Lycan King).
Blood Status of Maternal Parent: Pureblood AND Full Lycan. Maternal Parent's Name: N/A.
Paternal Grandfather: Tom Riddle Sr (DECEASED). Paternal Grandmother: Merope Gaunt (DECEASED). Paternal Grand-Uncle: Morfin Gaunt (DECEASED).
Maternal Grandfather: N/A (DECEASED). Maternal Grandfather: N/A (DECEASED). Maternal Aunt: N/A (DECEASED). Maternal Uncle: N/A.
Appointed Guardians: Narcissa Malfoy AND Lucius Malfoy (AS THE FIRST GUARDIAN, Bellatrix Lestrange, IS CURRENTLY IN AZKABAN).
"Why does it say N/A for over half of my relatives?" I showed the results to the goblin and he paled. If my father is the Lycan King, that makes me the Lycan Princess... Right?
"It says N/A as the other parent doesn't want parental responsibility or is unaware of you. As your father is down as alive, until your father makes your other parent aware of your existence, the magic is not allowed to reveal you. This does, however, mean that you now have to take your real name and claim your heritage."
"Okay." I sign some papers and take my stuff home. The day goes by as normal and I go to sleep. The next day, I walk into someone on Platform 9 3/4. "Sorry." I stand up and see that I've walked into a gorgeous woman. Her hair is half blonde/half black. Her eyes are a stunning blue. She is so gorgeous. And, she's a Lycan. "I didn't mean to. I'm so sorry." I back up a little to give her space. She looks okay. I doubt I hurt her... She's an Omega. She looks me up and down and sneers at my Muggle clothes.
"Watch where you are going, Mudblood." A voice says from behind the gorgeous woman and I try to find it. It's a boy with blonde hair and he looks stuck-up... Well, the woman does too but with her it's cute with him... And, he's a half-Lycan.
"Shut up, half-breed. I am not a Mudblood. My parents are Pureblood." I pull out my heritage test and hold it out to him. "In case you're as stupid as you look and don't believe me." The woman looks mad that I upset her boy and snatches it from me. I pout a little. I want her to like me. She reads it over and her face goes pale.
"Lucius!" The guy called Lucius walks over and takes the paper from her. His face pales too.
"Okay, why do you both look like you're going to faint?" They stare at me.
"We apologize, princess. Our son didn't mean to offend you." I snort.
"Yes, he did. But, I don't care. People act this way to me all of the time." The woman and Lucius looked horrified and disgusted. My parents ran over and Lucius took Draco a little further away to talk to him about something.
"Who's this, sweetie?" Dad asked.
"Dad, this is... I don't know. I kind of ran into her..." My dad laughed at me and I felt my face go red. "Hey! It's not funny, dad!" My mom lightly smacked him on his arm. You can tell who the Alpha is in their relationship. The woman held her hand out.
"Narcissa Malfoy." Wait... Narcissa Malfoy and she said the guy was Lucius... They're my appointed guardians? My parents talked to Narcissa and Lucius when he and Draco returned. They told them about who they were and how they found me. "Yes. The Dark Lord was not happy that Dumbledore had taken Hermione. He never saw his daughter again. Dumbledore took her from his mate."
"Who is his mate?" I asked.
"No one knows, sweetie," my father said. Draco and I boarded the train and Draco apologized.
"I'm sorry for what I said. I didn't know, princess." I nodded. He went to sit in the empty compartment I had just found.
"Draco... Can I sit alone for a bit? I just... I need some alone time. I've never been away from my parents before and I need a moment to adjust." Draco nodded and left. A little while later a boy came looking for a toad and I promised to help him but we didn't find it. Everything went fine and the sorting happened. For some reason, I was the last to be sorted.
"Hermione Riddle," McGonagall looked shocked at the name called out. A few of the teachers looked like they had seen a ghost (not a real one as that wouldn't cause this reaction). But, Dumbledore... Looked intrigued. Surprised. I sat down and McGonagall put the hat on my head.
"Hermione Riddle? As an Heir of Slytherin, your father would be eager for you to be in his house... However, your other parent was a Gryffindor and you are very brave. You would easily fit in there. You would also fit in as a Hufflepuff, you have a fierce loyalty to those you believe worthy of it. But, you are highly intelligent and would suit Ravenclaw... I truly have no idea where to put you, little witch... It is your choice... But, if you choose differently at some point, come and find me and I will re-sort you as many times as you would like." I thought about the hat's words.
