Chapter 13

Lily doesn’t mean to overhear them, but she can’t move when she realizes what they are saying.
“It shouldn’t be this hard, mate. Is it really worth it?”
James sighs. “Maybe you’re right, Padfoot.”
“I’m always right.” A pause. “You know Claire is hoping you ask her to Hogsmeade.”
There’s another pause, and Lily considers giving her position away so she can see the look on James’s face. Instead, she presses further into the wall so they don’t see her.
“Maybe I will.”
Lily’s heart sinks at his words. Is this it, then?
Why is she so heartbroken over it?
