The Youngest Evans
It wasn’t really well known that Lily Evans had had another child. To be fair, it wasn’t even James’ child; she was a surrogate for her cousin Yoshino and they had used Yoshino’s husband’s DNA.
Even though when Lily had the child, she knew she had no say, and she didn’t want any say as this was her cousin’s child, she still registered the baby as an Evans.
The parents had been asked beforehand and deemed it acceptable seeing as the normal world and the shinobi world were mainly separated. All it did was provide the child with an identity for outside the shinobi nation.
Shikamaru Nara was born a healthy baby girl and was later blood adopted by her mother Yoshino. She was told the truth about her birth because she had noticed how she didn’t really share features with her mother.
Understandably, not many knew that Shikamaru had technically 2 mothers. Shikaku and his team, Shikamaru and the rest of team 10, and then lastly Asuma knew about this fact, but other than that there was no reason to spread this information.
On the other side though, only Lily and James’ closest friends knew about the baby. As far as their world was concerned, Harry was an only child.
So, it was with great confusion on the night of declaring the Champions of the Triwizard Tournament, that the goblet had flared for a fourth time.
But, the words on the paper weren’t a name. Still, Dumbledore called out, “The youngest Evans.”
Those that knew of Lily Potter’s maiden name turned to stare at Harry Potter, who looked horrified. But before more could be said and done, a great flash occurred near the cup and deposited people.
People who were instantly on guard with weapons drawn. There were some screams from the crowd and some wizards pulled out their wands. The strangers didn’t appreciate this and managed to tighten their ranks, all of them covering each other’s blind spots.
Luckily for the continued safety of the wizarding population, a Severus Snape immediately knew who these people were from looks alone. Older wizards also were given a clue, but luckily it was Severus who made everyone calm down.
Quickly had had gone around the staff’s table before he was standing in front of, probably the oldest stranger. He gave a slight bow while speaking in another language. “Nara-sama, we weren’t expecting you.”
Most of the wizards were confused though a few of the smarter ones recognized the language as Japanese. After scrutinizing the wizard, the eldest person gave a sharp nod.
“Well, we certainly weren’t expected to be randomly transported to where we are right now.” The man commented back in the same language.
Severus straightened himself up and grimaced at that statement. Shinobi and wizards didn’t get along on a normal basis, let alone them being randomly transported into what they would deem as hostile territory.
“Would you mind telling me just where we are, and why we have been transported here?” It was more of a demand instead of a question with an edge of steel in the man’s voice.
“We are at Hogwarts, a school where we teach young wizards and witches about magic. The only clue we have for your transportation is that we were summoning champions and the slip of ‘the youngest Evans’ came out before you appeared.” Many would be surprised at how forthcoming Severus was with the information, but Severus knew all about shinobi, and especially the man in front of him.
The man furrowed his eyebrows while one of the younger members of the group glanced over at Severus.
With a movement of his hand though, the group relaxed slightly and stowed away their weapons, though they were still tense. “I apologize for the suddenness of our appearance, but we weren’t expecting something like this to occur. If we could go somewhere to discuss this, that would be greatly appreciated.” The man finally stated out in English with a slight accent.
Dumbledore smiled as disarmingly as he could and stated, “But of course. Let us dismiss our champions and then we can talk. Someone among you wouldn’t happen to be ‘the youngest Evans’ would they? If they are, they have been signed into a magically binding contract that failure to compete will result in death.”
The man narrowed his eyes at the old man while some seemed to tense even more.
“This would be much better to discuss behind closed doors.” The man finally stated.
Dumbledore gave a bland smile before indicating they follow him to the champions chambers. The man spoke lowly to his companions in his native language before they all started to follow Dumbledore.
“May I know the name of our visitors at least?” Dumbledore tried again to get any information out of these strangers.
The man seemed to contemplate answering before replying, “Shikaku Nara at your service. For our discussion I suggest we include Severus Snape.”
Dumbledore looked uncertain but allowed it again as they finally were behind closed doors.
The other headmaster and headmistress didn’t know how to react to any of this. Especially Durmstrang’s headmaster, Igor Karkaroff, as he could recognize shinobi anywhere and thus, he knew the true danger they were in. So, the man kept quiet as Dumbledore steered the tournament officials to say their piece before he talked to the strangers.
The tournament officials obviously wanted to say something about the strangers, but a dark smile from Shikaku stopped them real fast.
It was the quickest they had gone for an introduction for the Triwizard Tournament, but soon everyone but the strangers, Dumbledore, and Severus had left.
“Let’s take this to my office, shall we?” Dumbledore offered while he started to lead the way.
The strangers were looking around in awe and wariness the further they went in the castle. One of them asked a question in their native tongue and Shikaku answered back in the same language.
One of the younger strangers, a girl, spoke up and Shikaku gave her a look. Actually, the girl and Shikaku looked remarkably alike, they had to be related in some way.
Finally they made it to the headmaster’s office, where all the strangers gave the gargoyle incredulous looks before everyone was in the room. Dumbledore sat behind his desk, Severus had a chair next to the desk, and only Shikaku seemed willing to sit down.
Well, he actually almost lazily sprawled in the chair while the others that came with him still seemed to be alert and not willing to sit.
“Let’s just wait for my Deputy Headmistress to join us and then we can get started.” Dumbledore stated as there was a knock at his door.
This knock made all the strangers, except Shikaku and the girl, draw weapons again. Dumbledore allowed the person entry and a stern looking woman came in. She wasted no time and took the chair on the other side of the desk.
“Now let us begin, may I ask who you are and where you came from?” Dumbledore tried to ask in a grandfatherly voice but none of the shinobi were fooled.
Severus on the other hand had tensed as this could be seen as an insult to the shinobi. Luckily Shikaku spoke up, “I’ve already introduced myself, the people behind me are colleagues, and we come from Konohagakure in the Elemental Nations.”
Minerva sucked in a sharp breath of air at the revelation that the people across from her were guaranteed to be shinobi. Severus didn’t do much more than twitch at the revelation, and Dumbledore lost the twinkle in his eye.
“Am I safe to assume you are shinobi then?” Dumbledore tried, now a bit more wary.
“We are.” Shikaku wasted no time in confirming.
Wizards and shinobi didn’t get along, and while some of the smarter and more powerful wizards knew about shinobi, many had never seen one. Shinobi on the other hand didn’t really care about wizards, though if the wizards started something, shinobi were sure to finish it.
“And I’m assuming, ‘the youngest Evans’ is someone among you?” Dumbledore concluded.
Shikaku gave a lazy smirk as an answer.
Dumbledore was suddenly glad he hadn’t tried to withhold information on the tournament. Shinobi were known to be violent for much less.
“Well as I stated before, they had been entered into a magically binding contract where refusal to compete will result in death.” Dumbledore reiterated.
Shikaku gave a nod, while there was some whispering behind him as one of the shinobi was translating for the group. Some already seemed to be able to understand English, but there were a few that didn’t.
“So now tell me this,” Shikaku started as he sat up and leaned forward instantly making the wizards on guard, “how was my daughter entered into a magical tournament in a place she had never been before?”
Minerva sucked in a sharp breath, while Severus closed his eyes for a second in just regret. Dumbledore seemed to completely lose his grandfatherly air and was starting to look every bit of his age.
None of the wizards acknowledged some of the wary and glowering shinobi behind Shikaku. Especially as some had become more hostile when it was translated what happens to people who don’t compete.
This tournament just got a lot more complicated and dangerous.
