3.5 Dads & 2 Teammates
Growing up with basically 3 fathers, 3.5 now if we include Asuma, gave Shikamaru a sixth sense in when they were being overprotective and/or Shikamaru was in trouble.
Luckily, it was the overprotective feeling, because Shikamaru would have protested profusely if she was in trouble for whatever the hell happened to end them here.
Sure, Shikamaru was the one summoned technically, but it shouldn’t have been possible in the first place.
Still, watching her father terrify wizards (or just people in general) was always an entertaining sight. Just because Shikamaru and her father appeared lazy didn’t make them any less dangerous; and some people seemed to forget that fact that laziness didn’t equal incompetence.
She had to admit she was a little surprised that only her father was the one scaring the wizards seeing as Inoichi and Chouza had also been transported. Though that probably had to do with the fact that they were either trying to appear harmless (yeah right) or with only one person being terrifying rather than all of them.
Shikamaru gave a sigh as she glanced over at Chouji and Ino. It was pure luck that Shikamaru had been taken during their monthly get togethers and that all these people were touching her in some capacity (well, her teammates were touching her and the jounin were able to grab part of her in the split second before disappearing).
Shikamaru knew that she had 2 mothers but she never really gave thought to her birth mother. She was informed about her second name in the outside world, and she used it when they crossed over to pick up magic textbooks. Shikamaru might be the only one able to do magic, but the Nara were always interested in new techniques.
Plus, it wouldn’t do for Shikamaru to be unprepared in the chance she needed magic. They refused to get a wand on principle and were extra cautious when coming back from the outside world, but that was all fine.
To be quite honest, Shikamaru was basically done with her magic education. She read and understood all the textbooks, from the beginning to the highest ones, and sometimes even master level books. So, there was never a reason to get Shikamaru a tutor or look elsewhere for her education.
Perks of being a genius was she only had to do double school for a handful of months instead of years. Shikamaru had not appreciated her cloud watching and nap time being interrupted by her magical education, so she learned as efficiently as she could so she would stop doing extra work.
Shikamaru was honestly only partially paying attention to her father terrifying the wizards, the perks of being able to speak English. Inoichi was translating for Chouza, Ino, and Chouji; well, Chouza had a base understanding but they were talking a little too fast for Chouza to be able to translate efficiently.
Ino had only the basics as there wasn’t really a need for anyone else to learn English though it was a goal that by the time, they were jounin they could hold a conversation in English.
Shikamaru always privately enjoyed that it was something she shared with her parents (real and adoptive) and no one could really learn it. English was such a contradictory language with little rules that didn’t always apply, it was such a pain to learn even with someone who could speak it fluently.
Well, Inoichi was looking amused by whatever he was translating so maybe Shikamaru should be paying attention but this whole thing was just so troublesome.
Being surrounded by all males for a majority of her life at first didn’t matter. And then when she started growing up, her gender started to matter and she didn’t appreciate that. So even if it was a drag and exhausting to actually be progressing in her training, it was worth it to shove it back in all the males’ faces.
Shikamaru had even sympathized with her mother, which was underheard of, after Shikamaru was treated differently because of her gender.
Her boys might be willing to protect her, but she was more than capable of protecting herself.
Shikamaru took the time to take more facts about the people in the room with her as it seemed her boys were focused on the verbal communication.
Shikamaru had met Severus Snape exactly one time, when she was a young child, to inform Yoshino about Lily’s death. He had also become really the only contact that Konoha was willing to have with the outside world. He was an exceptional spy, though it was iffy what side he was on, but he at least always provided them with information so the shinobi didn’t really care about his loyalty.
Since then, Severus Snape would send letters to the shinobi to inform them of current events. Every once in awhile though, the older Ino-Shika-Cho trio would travel to the outside to physically meet with Severus. So, it was only logical that Severus got to know the trio fairly well and had learned the language and customs.
Severus might have never seen these men fight, but he knew a predator when he saw one, and even though they were pleasant to him, there was no mistake that they were predators.
Shikamaru tuned back in to the conversation a little to hear…’questions’ about accommodations and almost snorted. Those might have been phrased in a question structure, but they were not true questions.
Then she turned back to the wizards across from her. If she wasn’t the only wizard on their side, she absolutely would have taken a chair and tried to nap through all of this. But alas, she needed to be awake and aware just in case something happened as she was really the only true defense against magic.
Not that she would ever willingly put her family in danger, but it was the principle of the matter.
The stern looking witch reminded Shikamaru of a more severe Iruka-sensei. Well, if this woman was a teacher, Shikamaru probably couldn’t get away with sleeping in class which sucked. With how shinobi usually operated, they were probably making the wizards underestimate them and their knowledge. Though Severus obviously knew the truth, but he was much more wary about shinobi than fellow wizards.
Shikamaru briefly wondered if they were going to try and pass off her two team mates as also having magic. They obviously didn’t, but maybe a charade so that Shikamaru didn’t have to go into these classes alone? Being the only girl among 5, 6 counting Asuma, guys was so troublesome.
Shikamaru sometimes wondered how life would have been if she was born a boy, or one of her teammates was also a girl. But deemed that way too troublesome and useless effort to imagine so never gave it more than a fleeting thought.
The biggest person Shikamaru had to worry about was the old man with an outrageous sense of fashion. And that was saying something coming from her as she knew both Lee and Gai.
Albus Dumbledore was known as a renowned wizard and the current leader of the Light side. But he was also an old man that was holding way too many positions and his age was starting to catch up to him.
Oh, none of them trusted the man and his schemes (for that was what he was usually doing, scheming) but they were more neutral to the man.
Didn’t Shikamaru have a half-brother? Now that she thought about it, the slip had asked for the youngest Evans meaning her, but also meaning there was an elder Evans here.
What a drag, new family members she had never met before. She had her hands full with her 3.5 dads and teammates, she didn’t need a half-brother in the mix.
Wait, didn’t Dumbledore say this was a competition? That was grosser, Shikamaru had to put effort into an unwanted competition. At least with the chuunin exams, she wanted to be there, sort of.
Shikamaru didn’t appreciate whoever signed her up for extra work, not including the transportation. They would have to get in contact with Konoha soon so that Konoha didn’t start a war over their disappearance. Luckily, Severus had connection with Konoha so it would be fast and easy to pass on a message.
For whoever signed her up better hope that they were trying to get her half-brother and not her. Because if they were aiming for her specifically, heads were going to roll and that was before Shikamaru let anyone else at the person.
Shikamaru tuned back in to the conversation and was amused by the look at the wizards’ faces; it was the look of someone who had to deal with her father and realized they were outmatched.
She wondered briefly when her other dads were going to stop acting harmless. Being born into any Ino-Shika-Cho generation guaranteed the child having 3 parents, 2 not even blood related.
Oh, people were moving, did that mean they were done? Shikamaru sure hoped so, she was already tired of this whole ordeal and wanted to take a nap before fully processing what happened.
She felt a poke in her shoulder and glanced up at Inoichi’s amused face, meaning he knew that she wasn’t paying attention. Eh, if it was important enough, the others would tell her.
She was fondly exasperated when they moved her to the middle of their large group; overprotective idiots, the lot of them.
Harry didn’t quite know how to feel.
At first, he thought he was being forced to participate in the tournament, which with his luck would be viable. But then, those people had appeared and it threw everyone into confusion.
The people that knew that his mother’s maiden name was Evans, were suitably confused by the appearance of someone else for ‘the youngest Evans’.
Did Harry have a sibling? That can’t be it, everyone always told him he was an only child and he had no reason to doubt that.
But someone had appeared when that statement was called out, so now Harry was confused. If he had other family, especially on his mother’s side, why was he sent to live with his aunt and uncle?
Harry had jotted down a quick message to Sirius and gave it to Hedwig basically asking what the hell was happening.
To be honest, Harry was slightly overwhelmed with the revelation that he might have a sibling. Luckily, Gryffindor in general seemed to leave him alone because of this shock; he didn’t know how he would react if people were bombarding him.
That probably had to also do with Hermione and Ron running some interference. There was always someone that was brave enough to push even when they shouldn’t but luckily, they were blocked.
Thinking back to the group of people, the only person that looked relatively like Lily Evans was the older man with the bright red hair. But the ages were wrong, and other than the hair, the man didn’t look anything like his mother.
So, it had to be one of the kids, but all the kids looked like one of the men, so they had to be related in some capacity. Still, none of the kids really stood out to him, though he really couldn’t get a good look at them as the adults had covered them from prying eyes almost immediately, before they left the hall.
If this wasn’t a joke or a mix up, Harry wasn’t quite sure how to feel about a sibling. Hopefully Sirius could tell him what was happening, and maybe he even could get to ask the strangers (though he was wary because they had arrived holding what appeared to be weapons).
Harry couldn’t tell if he was excited or dreading the next couple of days.
