night before truth
the hours untill the sun finally set were filled with whispers, gossip, facts, lies and all sorts of stuff
many were just shocked because they saw 2 people who nearly the entire wizarding world had known to be dead, stood alive in the great hall before their very eyes
some were just happy that the couple were alive again
others were skeptical because it could be an illusion for all they knew
some were scared that they were brought back from the dead, and as a result broke one of the rules of magic, that no life may be brought back using the gift of magic
others didnt care, it didnt affect them much so they really couldnt care
there was also a great surge of information about the couple were shared around a lot, harrys name being avoided due to how taboo the name became that year
and the very person whos parents came back well......
hermione and ron stood in ron prefect room with harry pacing back and forth his eyes closed, sometimes looking pained, sometimes they made a move to touch harry, but they always backed away, finally harry turned to them and asked in a soft tone
"is it bad i dont want them here?" he quickly followed up with "i mean, i dont want them dead but i accepted that they would be dead a long time ago, the only reason it didnt hurt too bad was because i never got to know them personally, but now that their back..., i mean we dont even know if they're staying here, for all we know they could go back to wherever they came from at the end of this viewing and i just" harry stopped before continuing a few seconds later "i dont think i can handle that" he finidhed with his voice breaking and his face showing unmasked sorrow
"theres nothing wrong with that, afterall this isnt a situation anyone would ever find themselves in normally, so those types of feelings would be natural" hermione rationalised
ron took a few seconds before speaking "if im being honest here, it is slightly messed up, afterall numerous people would kill to have the chance you have right now" ron said
hermione glared at him and hissed trough her gritted teeth "why would you say that?!"
"because its the truth mione" ron said fiercely before replying in a quieter voice "you aint wrong about how his feelings are fine, but you have to admit that it just feels wrong for him to say"
hermione was about to retort before harry put a hand on her shoulder "hes not wrong mione, you have to admit that" harry said
hermione seemed placated but still slightly angry
a few minutes of akward silence passed before a knocking was heard on the window
ron moved to open the window with all three of them preparing to cast a number of spell in case it was sent in ill intent
it ended up being dumbledores patronus instructing them to come to the staff room
all 3 of them knew what this meant
a meeting with the potter couple was imminent
so with conflicted minds they left the prefect room and headed down nearly to the door outside when a tap on harrys shoulder stopped them
it was neville, who in the deserted common room was previously on an armchair, closed eyes and an expression that seemed too old for his age
he looked worriedly at harry, and understandably so, after all while he always looked like shit that year right now he looked like he had one foot in the grave.
harry sensing his worry, tried to placate him, but neville was having none of that and was walking to the front where Ron and Hermione were, who without a single reply let him join them, afterall he was basically a brother to harry at this point
after harry finally stopped trying to convince neville to stay behind, they left for the staffroom after briefing Neville about them
they stopped right in front of the staffroom door, harry being up front and were about to knock when dumbledores voice could be heard telling them to enter
neville looked a bit bewildered, with that feeling being heightened when no one else seemed to be confused by dumbledores call at the exact moment they arrived
and so with a slightly confused neville, they entered and found dumbledore sitting at a round table with the current stars of the show
the potter couple
they entered to a deafening silence, the potter couple looking to the group and the group looking back, both feeling awkward and uncomfortable
dumbledore with no words stood up and walked out of the room, seemingly going to the great hall
a few more minutes of awkward silence played out until finally both harry and James tried to speak, cutting each other sentence
"you go first," said Harry
"no, no you say what you need to say first," said James
and thus began a back and forth between the 2 which probably would have gone on forever until lily finally stepped in
"James will you stop bickering already, this is already awkward enough and now your just delaying it, just say what you need to say" lily said with an annoyed tone
James looked sheepishly at lily before controlling his expression and turning to harry
"i really don't have a conversation starter, in this time we've been dead for over a decade, Voldemorts back, Sirius was blamed for Pettigrew's betrayal, most of our old friends and acquaintances are dead or in a vegetative state, and most of the great and minor houses are gone or too weak, and we learn all this on the night of little nevs birthday and we are supposed to just accept it all at once." James finished with a tone of exasperation
lily was looking over annoyed at her husband because seriously, did he need to rant to the obviously uncomfortable teens
"i can definitely sympathize with the overwhelming information part," Harry said after a few seconds
a few more minutes of silence passed, finally Ron broke the silence with the only thing he felt was fit for the situation
"do you have any baby nev or harry pics on you?" Ron asked meekly
harry and Neville both turned to ron with an expression of 'what the fuck mate'
Hermione looked ecstatic
and James and Lily had visible smiles on their faces
James took out a bunch of polaroids and waved them and said in a mischievous tone "plenty"
in an instant, harry and Neville dashed at the lord potter who got up and ran to the other side of the room, Harry and Neville on his tail
lily subtly took out her own set of pictures and presented them to Hermione and Ron, who introduced themselves briefly before melting upon seeing how cute baby harry and Neville were
after a few minutes of harry and neville tring to get the lord potter they finally managed to corner him and leapt onto him, which ended with all of them crashing into a heap all of them laughing
at that exact moment sirius in dog form and remus walked into the room and saw the chaos and just turned around and walked out of the room, because 1 potter causing chaos was fine but 2 in the same room could probably end the world
after a lot more laughter and cooing both sides no longer had any awkward tension around them, but due to how late it was they decided to meet up tomorrow
nothing of note happened to the the group of teens on their way back from the meeting as well as when they reached their rooms, the golden trio electing to share rons prefect room
so the day ended and the new day with the truths of the past was now fast approaching
meanwhile......
"so why are watching this kids life instead of doing work?" james one of the rangers asked
"because if any of the rumors about what happens here are true, then his life will be full of revelations about this place, some far more important than others" michael said ending with a foreboding tone
"besides" continued michael "the captain seems to have taken an interest in him, and who knows, after this he may be invited to join us" he said
"honestly, you both are thinking too highly of a mere child" hans said
and then there was silence
then in a moment all 3 of them vanished, leaving behind nothing
"...., so it seems his deeds have reached beyond hogwarts" dumbledore mumbled to himself from his hiding spot
he looked around for a moment and decided to retire to his quarters
"tommorow will be the begeining of the light shining down, i know it" dumbledore mumbled to himself again before finally moving into his room
