Lily's Dancing Lessons

Lily’s Dancing Lessons

“You’ve got two left feet!” Sirius exclaimed through a fit of hysterical giggles. He was doubled over, wiping his eyes on the other side of the Gryffindor boys dorm. Lily huffed from the opposite side of the room, folding her arms across her chest in defiance.

“Yes, idiot! That’s why I came to you” she sighed as she rolled her eyes. She stomped over to where Remus was observing on one of the beds. Lily sat heavily down next to him and leaned on his shoulder. “Remus. Please tell your boyfriend to stop laughing at me.”

Remus looked from Sirius, who was still cackling, to Lily. “Pads, stop laughing at Lils. Lils, don’t take it so seriously.” Remus said, diplomatically. Sirius took a minute to calm down. He straightened himself up and cleared his throat. He strode over to where his two friends were sitting and made an elaborate gesture of holding his hand out. “Evans, may I have this dance?”

Lily gathered herself and placed her hand in Sirius’. Remus watched as Lily allowed herself to be led to the middle of the floor by the dark haired boy. “Okay. So you need to put your hands here, and keep them there.” Sirius began, positioning Lily’s hands appropriately. One rested on Sirius’ back and the other held Sirius’ other hand. Lily nodded, her face set in concentration. “Alright Evans. Next up are your feet. Since I’m leading, follow me. But make sure your feet are pointing out slightly, going from heel to ball.” Sirius instructed. Lily broke out of hold to pull her wand from her pocket. She arranged her fiery hair into a bun, securing it in place with her wand. “Okay. Let’s do this.”.

Remus watched as the two of them travelled gracefully around the dorm. Sirius had taught Lily how to dance. She was letting herself be led, and remembering the rise and fall. Remus gazed in wonder. They looked beautiful. The two of them glided across the floor with unfathomable grace. He couldn’t believe the elegance they had achieved in half an hour.

Sirius came to a halt and broke out of hold. “Well, Remus. Would you look at that? We’ve got ourselves a dancer!” Sirius beamed proudly. Remus smiled up at them. Lily had a pink tinge on her cheeks as she brushed down her uniform. She nodded in acknowledgement of her newly acquired skill.

“Great. You’re Yule Ball ready.” Sirius said, clapping his hands together. He was just about to turn around when Lily attacked him with a giant hug. Sirius’ ended up buried in her apple scented hair. Her arms wrapped tightly around him. “Steady on, Evans.” He said with a laugh, wrapping his arms around her in return. “Thank you.” Lily whispered against his shoulder. Sirius squeezed her in reply. “James will be stunned,” he told her. Lily grinned.
