Professor Moony
Professor Moony
Sirius peered into the mirror, smoothing his hair down for the fifth time in as many minutes. Why wouldn’t it stay down? He should probably invest in a brush. He mused lazily to himself as he studied his reflection. His tired face looked back. He hadn’t woken up this early since he was sixteen, and he had to say - he hadn’t missed it.
Sirius still didn’t understand entirely how he got the job. But he can’t say he’s complaining, since it stopped Snivellus Snape from getting it. Defense Against The Dark Arts. Professor Black. He rolled it round on his tongue. It still felt strange. But he might be able to get used to it.
Sirius leant in towards the mirror, examining the dark circles underneath his eyes. He picked his wand up from the dresser to his left and pressed it to his lips. What was the spell again? Why could he never remember when he needed it? He moved the wand tip to the offending area and began mumbling words he hoped would disguise his unhealthy sleep schedule.
“I can’t believe you, of all people, can’t remember a spell.” A voice said from the doorway. Sirius whipped around to see Remus leaning leisurely against the doorframe. A smirk was etched on his face, and his hands were deep in his pockets. Sirius couldn’t believe it - it was Seven in the morning and Remus was fully ready. How did he do it? Sirius lowered his wand in defeat and heaved a sigh.
“I know. I think it’s the nerves.” Sirius said, placing his wand back on the dresser. Sirius wasn’t usually one to admit it, but he was nervous. His first day of teaching was ahead of him, and quite frankly - he was shitting himself.
Remus pushed off from the doorway and loped over to him, a slight limp barely visible from the last full moon. “Hey.” He started, stopping right in front of Sirius. Remus took his hands out of his pockets and brought them up to Sirius’ cheeks. “Hey. You’ll be okay. It’s going to be fine. You’re going to be great. The best Dark Arts teacher Hogwarts has ever had. And, if I might say- you look great”, he comforted as he ran his thumbs over the dark circles below Sirius’ eyes. Sirius smiled a small smile and leaned into Remus’ touch. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.”Yeah.” He replied, on an exhale. “Yeah. I will.” He repeated, nodding slightly. He opened his eyes to see Remus watching him carefully.
“You’ll be fine.” Remus whispered, eyes twinkling as they travelled over Sirius’ face. “I’ll be fine.” Sirius echoed, bringing his hand up to rest on top of Remus’, which was still cradling his face. Sirius gently ran his thumb across the band of metal that wrapped around Remus’ ring finger. That was something else Sirius was still getting used to. Being married to Remus Lupin.
Remus smiled the smile that Sirius knew was just for him. “We’ll be fine.” Sirius stated, before placing a decisive kiss on his husband’s lips. Remus ran his thumb across Sirius’ cheek once more. “I love you, Professor Black.” He whispered. “I love you more, Professor Moony.”.
