Runway Model

Now, James couldn't mention that he got Harry multiple costumes and not put on a little fashion show for Lily. What else were they supposed to do with all these costumes? They had to show them off. And, if he said so himself, they were all pretty damn cute. Yes, Harry was pretty damn cute. And he would be even cuter, if possible, in the costumes.

And, yes, he will admit, he had a problem. But he quite liked having this kind of problem.

"Wait right there," he said to Lily, picking Harry up with the intent of going upstairs to change him.

Because Lily could only see the costumes on him for the full effect.

The last thing he saw from her was an amused look as he went up the stairs.

"Ready to be the best model?" He asked Harry.

Harry giggled and made baby noises which James was going to take as an agreement.

Thankfully, being nearly three months old meant that Harry didn't fight him when he took him in and out of clothes or else this would have been a whole lot more difficult.

Now, which on should he do first? The deer? The superior animal first or leave that to the last to finish with a bang? Or should he separate the wolf and the dog costumes more so there was no confusion?

In the end James went with the wolf costume. Mainly because he closed his eyes and blindly grabbed one and that one happened to be the wolf.

The wolf costume came with a little hood that had teeny, tiny ears on it. James' heart melted all over again, seeing Harry in it.

"You do realise that we aren't going to bring him out trick or treating, don't you?" Lily asked him as he returned, carefully hiding Harry from her view. "He's too little and it's far too cold outside."

"I know that."

Though it was a shame that no one would get to see the amazing adorableness that was their son in itty bitty costumes. But still. They could still see him. And that's what really mattered. Showing him off to other people would have been fun though. Maybe he'd bring Harry all dressed up to the next Order meeting...

"He is adorable though," Lily admitted, grabbing Harry off him and looking at him all over. "Is that a little wolf tail?"

It was indeed a wolf tail sewn on to the bum flap of the sleep suit.

"That is so adorable," she all but squealed. "Aren't you the cutest little wolf-cub?"

Harry agreed with her and burbled happily.

James was happy, they were off to a strong start. Had to keep the momentum going.

The deer costume was next and this one was a Babygro instead of a sleep suit. Still adorable though not as warm. It even had the speckles on the back like fawns did. See, it was little details like that that made it perfect. Of course, it wasn't a deer costume without antlers. These came attached to a headband of sorts, with the antlers on each side of it. Harry was not a fan of this and cried when he put it on him.

"Well, fawns don't have antlers anyway," James said with an indignant sniff.

"He still looks perfect," Lily agreed, snapping another picture of him.

The camera was getting a lot of use today. Not that that was a bad thing when the subject was Harry. He had had to call her in for help with the now redundant headband. He just felt like he was so clumsy putting things on Harry's head. Lily was more delicate.

"Oh, get them out of his mouth," she said, just realising that Harry had somehow managed to start gumming on the antlers.

Probably not the best for him considering that they were made out of this sort of fuzzy material.

Antlers saved; James shooed Lily out to put on the third costume. And he wasn't looking forward to this one, one bit.

"Why does he look so grumpy in that?" Lily asked, hand over her mouth as she stifled a laugh when he brought Harry down.

"Probably because he knows it should be a rat costume," James grumbled as he adjusted the little hat.

It had mouse ears on it. Mouse ears. Because that was the closest thing Sirius could get to a rat. Honestly, there had been all sorts of animal costumes but no rat one? A mouse? Really? What was so great about a mouse? The catalogue even had a horse costume. A horse costume. What was Hallowe'eny about a horse?

"It's... cute," Lily finally said. "The big, round ears and all."

"He looks stupid."

Honestly. Rats were obviously more superior to mice here. And Harry agreed with him because there were no smiles or babbling from him.

"I'm going to change him," James said, turning around.

"Wait! Let me get a picture at least," Lily exclaimed, brandishing the camera.

"It's not even worth a picture," James grumbled but held Harry out for it.

Thankfully, the final costume made up for the disappointment of the stupid mouse one. Harry seemed to love it which was a plus. And no wonder, it was definitely the softest of the lot. Lots of fluffy, black fur. James just wanted to hold and snuggle Harry in it. Well, he did that anyway but he wanted to do it even more with this costume.

"Oh, that's the best one yet," Lily said when he showed Harry off. "Aw, look at our little puppy."

"Sirius will be thrilled," James tried to say with a pout - the deer should have been the most successful one for obvious reasons but even he couldn't deny how adorable Harry was in this costume.

Lily's eyes lit up. "Oh, we need to get a picture of each of you with Harry in the related costume!"

James' eyes widened. Why hadn't he thought of that? That was a great idea!
