Calm Before the Storm
He was perfect.
Of course he was perfect, how could he not be?
He had the perfect looks, the perfect colors, the perfect personality, everything he did was always perfect. He was truly perfection.
At least… That’s what he always told himself every night, looking into his bedroom mirror, reaffirming himself for the next day as he did his nightly routine. He was even perfect without his makeup, as his glass and golden metal rim shined perfectly in the light.
But this… This wasn’t perfect.
This was wrong.
He stares at himself for a while, staring at it. That thing on his face. It was imperfect. A flaw in a beautiful and perfectly crafted facade.
A crack.
His mirror…. Was cracked.
He didn’t even know what to say! Sure, it was a small crack, but it was a crack nonetheless…!
Earlier that day, most of the toons were exploring those lower floors. Glisten had taken this wonderful opportunity to work on his mirror trick! ..It wasn’t quite perfect, but it was near perfection! The only problem was that it made him dizzy when he did it. Glisten believed that exposure to it was key, and he would get the hang of it eventually! (Rodger very much disagreed with this sentiment.)
Unfortunately, during one of these near-perfect attempts, it seems that he’d been going a bit too fast for his current pace of things, and had stumbled when he reappeared. ..This led to him tripping and hitting his head on the floor. Afterwards his head had hurt for the rest of the day, but at a quick glance earlier, he saw nothing wrong.
Now that he was paying more attention and his head still hurt, he was looking closer. That’s how he noticed the thing. At first, Glisten didn’t believe it. After all, he’d managed to go unscathed for so long, not even a light scratch! But now his perfect mirror had a scratch…! What was he to do? He didn’t know how to fix glass…! Sure, it could theoretically be replaced with new glass, but that wasn’t going to be able to happen quickly or easily. Didn’t hurt to ask for a new panel still, but that would take a while… He could wear a hat as part of a ‘new outfit’ or ‘new look’ but people would wonder about the sudden change, and hiding the imperfection that way could make it more obvious. That was the last thing he needed. The crack was right next to his swirl, and he could potentially bend the metal to be shifted over it, but he didn’t want to make an even bigger imperfection on accident, and people would notice and ask questions. Perhaps… Makeup?
He loved doing his makeup, everyone knew that, but he’d never done anything… Full face. He never wanted to because it would make him less shiny.. …But he could try it under the guise of trying whatever that stuff was that supposedly made skin ‘glow’. Not sure how that would work on a mirror, but then again a face mask didn’t do anything for a mirror or a TV, and yet Vee and him did them anyway while hanging out (Glisten convinced Vee into it one time, and they’ve done them ever since - at some point they also added the cucumbers, which also had no benefits for a screen or glass).
Yes, makeup will do. Won’t even be weird because healways is changing his makeup and how it looks. Suddenly trying out something full-face would just be a natural progression - after all, he’d only recently started doing his eyes.
A perfect solution for a hideous imperfection in his glass.
This left his only flaw still to be his mirror trick…
Well, that was an issue for another night it seems, as to be perfect, one needs their beauty sleep!
Walking over to his bed after polishing his (now imperfect) glass, he thinks for a moment, worry slipping into the back of his mind… Those Twisted… What were they? Clones? Yes, imperfect, hideous clones, that’s all they were to him. But his… His Twisted lesser twins had shattered mirrors. He wasn’t going to be like those vile creatures, was he…?
Nonsense! Such a thing would never happen! After all, he was perfect, and those monsters were far from it!
He hums, satisfied with these solutions to these measly problems. Can’t have negative things infecting his perfect demeanor and state of mind, after all!
Smiling to himself, he takes out a piece of paper and writes about his day, about the practicing and the ‘minor inconvenience’ with the whole process, and his surely flawless plan for the whole thing. He also wrote about his plans for tomorrow. Maybe he could invite Vee over to gossip with (It was mostly one-sided. Actually, most things in their friendship was rather one-sided. Sometimes Glisten questioned if they even were friends, or if Vee just went along with it for some reason…). Or maybe he could invite over Razz and Dazz! …The three of them really needed to hang out more often….
Well, while all these were wonderful ideas, he should be resting.
Tomorrow was going to be a perfect day.
