Something isn't Right

For once, when Glisten wakes up, he’s not feeling well rested.

In fact, it was quite the opposite.

He didn’t dream last night, which never happens. Usually, they all have good dreams because of Astro, but last night was the first night of just… Nothing. Is that what happens when a toon isn’t given a dream at all…? Maybe he could ask Astro about it later… Or not. Definitely not. Can’t have a main know something was up (Unless it was Vee, he told Vee everything), that would show them that he isn’t always perfect, and he can’t have that. But that wasn’t his main focus right now.

He sits up in his bed, holding his still in-pain head, thoughts quickly changing from the odd lack of dream. Sure, he knew it would hurt to have his mirror cracked since it was quite literally his face, but this wasn’t going to be permanent, was it? Surely not. That’d be rather inconvenient.

Sighing, he tiredly gets up from his bed and remakes it. This minor setback wouldn’t ruin his perfect day, after all! ….Though it’d be really useful if there was something around here to help with the pain… Did ice packs work on mirrors? Suppose he would find out today. And if it didn’twork he could always ask for some painkillers…. God, he hated asking things of people.

He walks over to the mirror, quietly humming to himself as he tries to keep himself in a positive mood. After all, he’d be hanging out with his friends today! How could he not be happy? It was going to be a perfect day.

The crack was surprisingly easy to cover up. Who would have thought that makeup could fill in a gap so well…! Though he didn’t remember the thing being that big… Then again he was likely just dazed or tired or something yesterday. Hard to focus when your head hurts like hell….

Humming to himself as he tries to distract from the headache, he puts on his outfit for the day. Leg warmers, bow…. Should he wear a sweater today? Why not, hewas going to be hanging out with some of his friends after all…! Plus, it’d be strange to go through the effort of doing a different makeup style and just have the same outfit, and he certainly didn’t need anyone questioning him.

Why not that white sweater he always has hanging up? He hadn’t worn it in a while, after all. Plus, it’d match his leg warmers! Smiling to himself, he gets the sweater down and puts it on. It was bigger than he’d remembered… Had he gotten thinner or had it just been a long time? Probably just a long time is all.

His thoughts were interrupted by a spike of pain again coming from his forehead. Damn crack… ..Maybe it would be better to go with the painkillers over testing a pack of ice. …And honestly, it’d probably seem less weird as well. At least with painkillers one could reason that it was just a headache or a migraine - an ice pack would imply that he hit his head.

Well, he did hit his head, but they didn’t need to know that.

The pain slowly dissipates again, still there, but once again returning to a minor-ish thought at the back of his brain.

Glisten ties his bow, having to retie it a few times to get it perfect (it was embarrassing that he couldn’t get it perfect the first time), but he did get it eventually.

He knew he was going to hang out with someone today, but he had a nagging feeling that he was missing something…. He wasn’t part of an episode (missed opportunity if you asked him), he didn’t have a very long to-do list, he wasn’t supposed to go down to the lower levels today…. Did he agree to help someone with something? He would’ve written it down if he did, but then again, yesterday was quite something…. What was he forgetting? If he forgot and actually did have something to do, that would be an error on his part. A mistake. An imperfection. No, he couldn’t forget. But what was it?He would just brush it off, but he couldn’t forget anything… He hadn’t before, after all. What would the others think if he suddenly acted differently along with looking differently? Surely they would suspect something.

They couldn’t suspect anything.

But what was it…. Oh goddon’t tell him that the fall had also affected his memory as well. That’d be one horrible thing on another - and another imperfection he wasn’t even sure he could deal with! At least with the crack he could always just replace the glass… ..Hurt like hell, but there are prices to pay to be perfect.

Sighing, he thinks to himself. He never really thought about who he was going to hang out with today… He had thought of R&D, but he wasn’t too sure… He wasn’t feeling very confident in the idea of hanging out with Vee either. The ideas had crossed his mind yesterday, sure, but now that he was somewhat rested (and the headache had gotten worse), he didn’t think it was a very good idea…

The headache… ..Maybe it was best to visit Cosmo or Sprout or someone along those lines first. After all, he couldn’t be his best for anyone if he was constantly being distracted by this pain. And he couldn’t be anything less than perfect.

But where would they be….

Well, there was Sprout's room, but he didn’t feel like going up to the main’s rooms… It made him jealous, and he couldn’t be perfect if he was envying someone else.

There was also the kitchen! As far as Glisten knew, they weren’t recording there today, but the two often cooked there anyway…! Well, to the kitchen he goes, he supposed. ….God he wished he didn’t have to do this. At least it wasn’t a strange request…

He steps into the elevator, pressing the button to send him to the kitchen floor. He was nervous. Sure, he was friends(?) with one of the mains, but it was still intimidating to talk to them. It was part of the reason he had thought better of asking Astro about the dream…. But he couldn’t show any nervousness. No. That would show that he isn’t perfect. And he’s always perfect. He had to be.

The elevator opens to…. Well, it’s certainly something. There are pans everywhere, with scrapped pastries lying on the floor, stepped on and ruined. There were different utensils scattered around as well. And most strangely of all, a black liquid seemed to coat a lot of the things around. It reminded Glisten of their blood…. The idea creeped him out for a moment, until he realized it was thicker than it normally would be for Ichor. …It was both relieving and unnerving.

There were also vines climbing up the walls, oddly enough. It was weird… It was like the vines were made of the same thick Ichor stuff everywhere.

Walking around out of some sort of sick curiosity, he notices something on the floor. Bracelets. …Cosmo and Sprout’s friendship bracelets.

Cautiously, he leans down and picks them up, curious and disturbed. The two never removed these… Something was wrong here. He should leave. He could probably just… Ask Dandy for something to help with the headache, yeah….

He steps back into the elevator, unnerved by all of this. He could’ve sworn he wasn’t alone on that floor, which probably just made all of this worse. He was curious as to what happened there, and yet something deep inside him told him that maybe it was better that he didn’t know what happened there.Maybe it was just best to tell Dandy and leave it be.

The doors close, and Glisten lets out a breath, still holding onto the bracelets in his hands. He was half expecting someone or something to join him in the elevator ride, but he remained alone. That made the most sense, after all. No one was around (as far as he knew) when he got on.

Still….

He takes a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves and get his composure. Now that he wasn’t worried about whatever caused that to happen, the headache was front and center again. Right…. Nevertheless, he had to keep a look. After all, he was perfect. He had to be perfect even with a headache. He had to be perfect in the face of something unnatural. He had to be perfect even when he was holding the bracelets of two toons he knew very well would not take them off, implying something horrible. In situations where he just wanted to cry, he had to be perfect. If he wasn’t….

Best not to think about it.

He must be perfect.

Glisten was always perfect.
