Chapter 1
“Slytherin”, the sorting hat roared.
Applauds from the Slytherin table echoed in the room and Ade curled her lips into a small smile before rising and making her way down to her seat. She had been nervous before the sorting ceremony, fearing the worst: Hufflepuff. Not that there was anything wrong with being sorted into Hufflepuff, they were fierce friends and people you could always count on but Ade had too much darkness inside of her to survive in that kind of house. She would have been fine with being placed in Ravenclaw, she always succeeds in school and felt most comfortable with her nose in a book. She could even handle Gryffindor even though she thought they cared too much. But she had prefered Slytherine because it had its own appeal. The dark brooding and sometimes evil souls made her feel like home. The ambition they possessed impressed her and she would, much like those who were sorted into Slytherin, also do whatever it took to succeed.
This was her first time at Hogwarts and when she first arrived she thought the castle looked like something out of a fairytale. She transferred straight into the 6th year and she didn’t know what to expect, being homeschooled her entire life. Her grandmother had teached her everything she knew but as her health began to decline she no longer had the strength to continue teaching. Her exposure to the magical world was limited. Living in a muggle household for her entire life limited the magic she was able to use. Due to this she often sneaked out to practise in the empty field across the wood in her backyard. She was good, that much she could admit, but maybe not up to the level Hogwarts expected but that was to be seen in the following week. At least she was fortunate enough to have her own room due to the transfer.
“Ade.”, a dark haired boy waved her over to an empty seat between him and a raven haired girl.
“I’m Julian and this is Emma.”, he pointed to the girl on my right.
“Nice to meet you.”, It wasn’t actually that nice. Ade would rather go to her room and sleep for the rest of the day, she just wanted to be left alone.
The tables filled with food as soon as Dumbledor announced that the feast may begin. Turkey, potatoes, roast beef and anything else someone would fancy appeared in front of Ades face. Carefully filling her plate with the assortment of food. Her eyes flicked between the other Slytherins on the table, stopping just a second longer on a certain blond boy with the most obnoxious smile Ade had ever seen, she quickly looked away.
After finishing the food some of the teachers welcomed the student and held speeches about what a wonderful year it's going to be. Ade listened, nodded and smiled at the right times but really wished this banquet could be over.
“Have a good year!” Dumbledore ended the evening and students began to file out. Ade, however, sat still a while longer, not wanting to get lost in the crowd. When there were just a few students left she finally rose and made her way to her room.
As she made her way through the second corridor she heard a voice call out for her.
“Ade!”
“Do I know you?” Trying to keep a smile on her face and her hands steady at her side, she was so close to running away. She recognized the boy that called out. This was the blond boy she observed during her meal and she must admit he really was striking. Blond, almost white, hair and he radiated wealth, probably a spoiled child.
“No but you should. I’m Malfoy, Draco Malfoy”, He had a cocky grin on his face, “Already heading to bed? I can join you.”
Ades hands curled into fist. She’s been here for two hours and she already wanted to punch someone. He didn’t even know her so why the hell would he say that? Fine, two can play that game.
“You know” Ade stepped closer to Malfoy, reaching up to touch his shirt collar, stroking her finger along the white pressed shirt. She let her finger travel up higher, making Malfoys breath hitch and a satisfied smirk blossomed on Ades face. Her finger finally touched his lips, they were softer than she imagined. “You look prettier with your mouth shut.” She let a bit of venom seep into her voice and hardened her eyes, making him take a step back.
Without another word she turned and began to make her way through the rest of the corridor. She increased her distance to Malfoy but then she heard a different voice being her.
“You really do look better with your mouth shut.” Ade turned to see a boy with brown curls talking to Malfoy and snickered at his comment before one again continued to walk the corridor.
“Riddle, back from Azkaban so soon?.” Malfoys voice boomed in the empty space.
Who the hell was this guy? Ade knew about another Riddle but surely this could not be him? At least he seemed to dislike Malfoy.
The boy with curls, Riddle apparently, ran up to Ade, placing his hand on her shoulder, “Good work with Malfoy, I’m Mattheo Riddle and you must be Ade.”
She met his piercing eyes, “Yes, and that comment applies to you too.”
His eyes lit up and a smile played on his lips. “Feisty, I hope I see you around.” And with that he escaped through a narrow passageway in the wall. The warmth of his hand still lingered on Ades shoulder, making her cheeks fill up with blood. This was gonna be an interesting year.
