Midnight

Draco met Harry in the dead of the night. Whispers were everywhere, people were missing. It was foolish. And yet there he was, at an abandoned shack in the middle of a nondescript field, to meet the chosen one. The moon hung in the middle of the sky, it was just after the full moon, and he wondered about those who were affected, what did they do now?

A familiar crack brought him back to the moment, for the reason that he was there. Harry made his way over, face solemn as it always was these days. This was not the future they had hoped for, the ones everyone had died for. This place had become an escape for the two of them. Away from the memories, from the magic, from the impending future. Without a word Harry nodded toward the door, leading them inside.

It was much cozier than it looked, Draco had made sure of that. He had his standards after all. Harry settled onto the weather couch, his one contribution, as Draco started the tea. They never entered without the other at this point, and words always fell short. So the silence stayed, giving them the space to just be, without the eyes of the world.

“I’m not going into hiding.” Harry finally announced as Draco stirred the sugar in their teas. He didn’t even flinch, he should have expected this.

“You don’t know what will happen, you have the chance to be safe for once.” His words were steady.

“I’m not going to run away.” How funny, he said that as he hide away from the world with a Malfoy. Draco brought over the mugs and handed one to Harry, admiring his profile as he sipped. God, they were all too worn to be as young as they were.

“You don’t owe them anything.” He mumbled, his hand pushing through the hairs at the nape of his neck. Harry didn’t respond but instead leaned into Draco. Neither would say it, but this was their last moment of peace.
