Hold On
Loving and fighting, accusing, denying
Hermione and Ron yelled at each other again. Ron kept saying that Hermione’s cat ate his rat, it was starting to wear Harry down, but he wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I can’t imagine a world with you gone
Harry sat in his chair, the sounds of the forest echoing around him. Somehow, Ron and Hermione were laughing over something, and despite being wanted criminals, Harry felt happy, he doesn’t know where he would be without them.
The joy and the chaos, the demons we’re made of
His small feet slapped across the sidewalk, the jeers of his cousin and friends as they played Harry Hunting behind him. Harry couldn’t let them get him or he would go home with bruises and chores would be even harder to complete. He didn’t want Uncle Vernon to get mad or he would just go to bed in his cupboard even more bruised and maybe bloody.
I’d be so lost if you left me alone
“Harry, the essay topic is right here, in this book, not that book.” Hermione cried, an affronted look on her face.
“Oh, sorry ‘mione.” He said sheepishly, he had honestly spaced out and grabbed the wrong book.
You locked yourself in the bathroom
“Sectumsempra!” Harry yelled, shooting the spell at Malfoy. He watched as Malfoy was sent back, and then the blood pool beneath Malfoy, fear slipping out from Malfoy in whimpers. Harry didn’t mean it, he didn’t even know what that spell did!
Snape walked through not even a minute later and made eye contact with Harry over Malfoy’s body, strange emotions flickered through Snape’s eyes, but Harry left before he could figure them out.
Lying on the floor when I break through
The voice, what was that voice. What is the murder it’s talking about? Harry follows it, dimly aware of his friends behind him, until he is splashing through a large puddle and sees Mrs.Norris laying eerily still on the floor.
I pull you in to feel your heartbeat
Harry sobbed in his crib as a sharp green light cut through the hair towards his mother who threw herself in front of him. What was happening? He wanted his mummy to hold him!
Can you hear me screaming? Please don’t leave me
A man in dark robes screamed and sobbed over his mother, making Harry keep crying, why was his mummy so still? Where was Daddy? Why were there bodies too still in front of him?
Hold on, I still want you
Snape sent Dumbledore over the railing, letting him fall to his death. Grief ripped through Harry’s chest, and he didn’t make a sound. Snape had just murdered Dumbledore!
Come back, I still need you
Harry looked down at Remus and Tonks, holding hands one last time in death, he was numb.
Let me take your hand, I’ll make it right
Harry raised his hand to hold Aunt Petunia’s hand in the grocery store, there were so many people here, it was scary. He grasped her hand, only for her to yank her hand away and slap at it, before looking around anxiously to see if anyone saw. Seeing that no one saw, she gripped his shoulder painfully, and scolded him.
Harry never tried to hold her hand again.
I swear to love you with all my life
“I would love to!” Harry said brightly, living with Sirius would be a dream! No more Dursely’s, no more Harry Hunting, and a happy life with someone who actually cared about him, why would he dream of anything else?
Hold on, I still need you
He screamed as he watched Sirius fall through the veil. No, he still needed to fulfill the dream of living with Sirius! It isn’t fair! Why can’t he just be happy!
Long endless highway, you’re silent beside me
Ron screamed as he drove the flying car above King’s Cross, Harry gripped the door and seat, hanging on for dear life.
Driving a nightmare I can’t escape from
Harry shot up in bed, a scream on his lips as he saw Mr.Weasley get mauled by the snake, by him! Ron, Dean, Seamus, and Neveille were awake and were surrounding him, looks of concern on their faces.
“Mr.Weasley! He, he,” Harry couldn’t speak, the words jumbling out in his panic, scar blazing.
Helplessly praying, the light isn’t fading
A piercing pain lanced through Harry’s head as his small body was tossed into his cupboard, spots dancing across his vision. He sat there for hours before the tears fell.
“I wish someone would take me away, to a place where I could be happy.” And Harry blew on the picture of a cake with lit candles, pretending to make a wish on them.
Hiding the shock and the chill in my bones
He leaned on a tree in the freezing cold, the lake water doing him no favors. He struggled, trying to use the sword to break the ice, but it didn’t work, he was going to drown!
They took you away on a table
Harry felt the heavy steps of Hagrid as he carried him. The laughs of Death Eaters Around him, and eventually, the deranged laugh of Voldemort as he bragged to the Order.
I pace back and forth as you lay still
Harry bit his lip nervously, he had detention with Snape. This time he actually deserved it, but he was nervous all the same. Snape had started looking at him weird, he never really caught it too often, but now he felt it burning on his back every once in awhile. Harry didn’t understand why this was just now changing in 6th year, was it the Occlumency training?
They pull you in to feel your heartbeat
He breathed hard as he hovered over Cedric’s dead body, cheering echoing out around him. The words “kill the spare” repeated in his head as he looked at Cedric.
Hands pulled him away and he screamed, he promised Cedric his body would be safe, he had to make sure of it!
Can you hear me screaming? Please don’t leave me
“Does it hurt? Dying?” He asked, feeling childish.
Sirius looked at him softly, the silence of the forest making his words seem more ominous then they needed to be. “Faster than falling asleep.”
Hold on, I still want you
He lit his wand up in remembrance for Dumbledore. The grief numbing yet becoming so much more fresh.
Come back, I still want you
The cloth being floated to him, and he felt something in him try to leave. A bright light burst into sight and his vision went black, a scream piercing the train compartment.
Let me take your hand, I’ll make it right
Blood poured out from Snape’s neck as he tried to stop the bleeding. He was a spy! Harry needed more information, he needed to know how to fix everything!
I swear to love you all my life
Harry smiled and started laughing as his friends laughed on the couch. He wasn’t sure about what they were laughing about, but he felt warm.
Hold on, I still need you
He watched as Remus walked out of his, now old, office. His things floating behind him. He had quit thanks to his werewolf status being leaked out. So much for the best DADA teacher he’d ever had.
I don’t wanna let go
Blinding white greeted him after he died from Voldemort. Was this truly it? Now that he was actually dead, Harry realized there were still things to do, things that he needed to do.
I know I’m not that strong
“Is he dead?” Harry asked Dumbledore.
“Yes, Harry, he is dead.” Dumbledore admitted. “Though if you ask me, he was already dead when he was possessed by Voldemort.”
Harry sighed in relief, he wasn’t a murderer. How could he, a scrawny, malnourished boy even kill a person? It was just inconceivable.
I just wanna hear you
He sat in his room, the padlocks only making it seem more oppressive. “Sorry Hedwig,” Harry whispered. “I don’t have anything to feed you right now, you’ll have to wait until I can sneak some food up.”
Saying, “baby let’s go home”
Harry pottered around, doing chores quickly in hopes that he could get praise from Aunt and Uncle. In record time, Harry had the house looking spotless, pride filling him, he had done this, surely now his Aunt and Uncle will be proud, give him a pat on the head.
Finally, his Aunt and Uncle were home. “Look at this house!” Aunt cried, and Harry puffed up his chest. “Its a mess! What would the neighbors think! Vernon, do something!”
That night, Harry went to bed in his cupboard, too sore to move, blood soaking his thin mattress, and his hope of receiving love from his Aunt and Uncle squashed.
Let’s go home
He looked at his mum in the clearing, wishing that it was actually her and not just an apparition. Harry wished that he could go home with them all and live with them like he was supposed to.
Yeah, I just wanna take you home
Silent tears slipped down Harry’s face as he looked at all of the dead and injured in the destroyed dining hall. The pain and suffering shoving itself into his head, the screams, the grief, the guilt.
Hold on, I still want you
“You have your mother’s eyes.” Snape choked out, and Harry sent him a pained smile, until Snape's chest shuddered and fell still. Harry’s smile slipped off, and he held the vial of tears in his hand, why wouldn’t anyone stay?
Come back, I still need you
Harry coughed, blood splattering on the ground. Voldemort was dead, and it looked like Harry would join him. The last Death Eater standing had gotten him with a bad cutting hex to the torso, and Harry fell seemingly in slow motion as pain shot up his body.
He lay on the ground, hearing the footsteps of his friends, the cries of his name. Harry blinked and their faces were above him, looking scared and full of grief.
The pain seemed to fade away, like he knew he was. Pulling up his last vestige of strength, Harry smiles at his friends. “You guys don’t need me anymore, smile for me, yeah?”
It was with dim recognition that they agreed, and before his vision fades, he sees them crying, some of them hugging. And everything goes to black, his chest coming to a wheezy stop.
