“I still can’t believe you’re dating him”

“And I still can’t believe you didn’t understand the last time I told you I wouldn’t give a shit about what you think”, Remus muttered back to Mary, while trying to lit up the cigarette between his lips. Which seemed to be a harder task to do with the shitty lighter Marlene had given him.

Honestly he doesn’t know how he had ended up spending time with Mary MacDonald out of all the people. She sat next to Marlene one time in class and now she’s here. He doesn’t really mind, he thinks. She's okay, but sometimes she just doesn’t know how to keep her opinions to herself. And she’s just so different compared to him and Marlene, it’s more of a miracle that she wants to spend time with them, than the other way around.

“Like literally he’s just so.. mean”

“Have you met Remus?” Marlene chuckles

Okay it’s a miracle Remus doesn’t think she is the most annoying person on the planet, so it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

“This thing doesn’t work at all”, he stated and tried one more time again before giving up and tossing the lighter back to Marlene.

“Well I’m not the one with the nicotine addiction so next time don’t forget your lighter”, she says while being busy texting someone with her phone.

“How did it even happen in the first place?” Mary asks

Remus exhaled loudly

Sirius Black and Remus Lupin are dating

The biggest subject of gossiping in Hogwarts high school. How fucking nosy are people? Their relationship isn’t necessarily that new anymore. It’s been almost six months since the two of them started dating and things have been okay, more than okay. If Remus is being honest everything was so fucking confusing at first, but now half an year later it’s only a little confusing. It doesn’t feel too weird anymore, it’s actually really fucking great. Yeah they have those days when they fight over stupid and less stupid things, but they make up and go on with life. Because it’s life, there’s supposed to be some bumps on the road and sometimes everything goes to shit. But it feels like it’s easier to get back on the road when he’s with Sirius.

So he gladly takes the bumps, takes all Sirius temper tantrums, (yes the other boy has those. He didn’t know it was possible for someone to have a meltdown over not finding the one specific shirt when going out. But clearly it is possible and it’s serious) if it means having Sirius beside him.

Gosh, when did he become such a softie?

Before this month they had kept their relationship more of a secret. Not because they cared what other people thought. No fuck them and their opinions, but because it was new and something they wanted to settle on before everyone knew.

But just three weeks ago Sirius had carefully suggested that they stop hiding their relationship. Not because they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other or something as stupid as that. More like because it was rather exhausting trying to act like they didn’t know each other or care for each other. So when next week came on all they did was go to school together. And well, Sirius may or may not have yelled after him ‘see you at the bathrooms after class’ when he had walked off with James.

Why? Because Sirius doesn’t have functioning part in his brain

But it didn’t leave much room for guessing. And people went crazy

Can you believe Sirius Black and Remus Lupin are dating?

They are literally so different, how can it work?

I didn’t even know Sirius was gay

It won’t last

I’m giving it a couple months

The list goes on… But honestly, that kind of reaction wasn’t much of a surprise. So they let people gossip. It’s not like they really know what happens behind the closet doors. Listening to people talk about their relationship like they knew it better than them actually ended up being more hilarious than anything else.

“I’ll be back”, Remus informed the two girls, ignoring Mary’s question and walked back to the school front doors. It wasn’t hard to find Sirius. If you see a group of people and hear loud talking then he and his friend group is somewhere close. Sirius was still as popular. Or maybe not popular? Remus still hasn't figured that out. He still had his not too big friends group that at least every other student in their school worships. Yeah of course there are some homophobes, but honestly it would be more of a surprise if there wasn’t.

The group consists of him and his two best friends James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. Remus still thinks James is kinda annoying, but so is pretty much everyone else, so. Though after spending time with him Remus had come to the conclusion that James Potter is a fair kid and for sure cares for Sirius like a brother. What comes to Peter, Remus has no fucking idea. He had talked to him and spent time with him, but he still has no idea what to think of him. But Peter doesn’t annoy him or necessarily bring up any other emotions in him so that must be something.

Other than them it’s just people who wished and tried to be part of the group. They were friends but not that level of friends.

Remus didn’t give much of his attention to the students who turned to look at him when he walked past them in the hallway.

“Could you move”, he muttered to a group of younger students who were standing in the middle of the hall, blocking half of the space. The kids quickly stepped to the side, it was a bit funny how frightened they looked. Like Remus did something else than ask them to move to the side.

And ah there they were. Leaning on to one of the lockers was this famous group. It was quite funny to Remus how some of their schoolmates found the three boys so cool and something to look up. To him they seemed like the typical friend group every high school has.

The popular one with the hot girlfriend (not Remus words, okay), the complete opposite to the popular kid, and the two of them still are weirdly best friends. And the third one who everyone feels sorry for, because his two friends are clearly more liked than him. Just add the cheerleader captain, or whatever, to that and you can read about them from Wattpad.

Seriously…

Sirius noticed him walking up to them and turned his head to his direction.

“What’s up?” he asks when Remus got close enough. He looked at James and Peter and nodded his head to them. It was some weird ass way to greet them, just when he wasn’t about to stay and talk with them. A group of girls standing a couple of steps away from them turned to look at him and Sirius in a way that you could believe they were worth to stare at.

Or something they will spend the next class gossiping over. Who knows?

People really should mind their business.

“You have a lighter?”

Sirius tapped the backpockets of his jeans with his hands and then nodded.

“Yeah, why?”

“Can I borrow?” he glanced at his phone, he only had six minutes before class.

“I don’t know, you were kind of a dick last night to me”, Sirius said smirking.

A piece of shit, really this is something he has to deal with.

Remus rolled his eyes,

“And you’re kind of a dick all the time, what’s your point?”

“Oi, that’s mean”

“So sorry”, Remus got closer, “Now give me the lighter”, but didn’t give Sirius time to do anything when he was already moving his hands to Sirius' backpockets, digging for the lighter.

“Thanks sweetheart”, he whispered and turned around.

He had just time to smoke his cigarette before his history class started.

-

Remus hummed and pressed his hands to Sirius’ chest to break the kiss.

“Okay we need to go”

Sirius groaned as Remus started to buckle his belt again.

“Since when did you start to care about going to your classes”

“Since you started failing all yours. If I go then you’ll go too”

Sirius groaned again, but still unlocked the stall door and went to the sink to wash his hands. Remus was right, of course he was. Sirius was failing pretty much all of his classes, especially maths.

“You ready?” Remus asked as he slammed the door closed and walked up to him.

“Yeah- no wait!” he went to look for a market from his bag and after finding it he walked back to the stall.

“Do I put a line to the blowjob one or to the snogging? Or both?”

Remus sighed and turned to lean on the sink. Four months ago Sirius came up with a great idea to start marking the stall wall everytime they did something in it. Because over the months it had kind of become a regular place for the two of them. Nasty, yeah yeah he knows, but it always just happens.

Sirius has a different list of lines for everything from snogging to shagging, but the trick was that no one else knew what the lines were for. Other students just noticed how lines started to appear on the wall, but no one has any idea. Well, maybe some people do, but mostly people just badly want to know.

Maybe it's better that they don’t.

“How about neither?”

“So both, okay”

Remus glanced at the time from his phone and saw that they were already late enough and decided to just go and leave Sirius to the stall. He will follow after him once he realises he has left.

And sure enough ten seconds later Sirius ran to catch up with him, like a puppy who almost lost their owner.

Whipped

“Don’t say anything, I’ll handle it”, he said and glanced at Sirius as he knocked on the door.

Their maths teacher was Minerva McGonagall. She was a strict teacher who for sure didn’t like the fact they were usually late, or the fact that Sirius was way too close to failing.

The door opened and McGonagall looked at both of them behind her glasses with one eyebrow raised.

“Mr Lupin, Mr Black. You are late”, she pointed out and didn’t move to the side to let them in.

Remus put on his best fake smile. He can’t remember when he started to do that, because he was late from class. He had really gotten soft, hadn’t he?

Damn you Black

“So sorry, Minnie- McGonagall. We were outside and then the doors locked before we could get inside. And you see, because it’s our luck we didn’t remember the password to the door. And of course my phone was dead and he’s stupid and left his inside”, he pointed his finger to Sirius who looked at him offended. “So we just had to wait for someone to walk past the door. It took some time”

Minerva stared at the both of them, for sure not believing a word Remus just said. But then she just shook her head and stepped to the side.

“I see, hurry go to your seats”, she turned around, but then stopped and turned back to look at them. “And Mr Black, please button your shirt up”

Sirius and Remus both glanced down and Sirius shirt really was open almost all the way to his belly button.

Sirius grinned widdly, “Oops, sorry Minnie. It was kinda hot outside”

“In the middle of March it sure was, Mr Black”

Quiet laughing could be heard around the class as the two of them got to their seats, Remus next to Marlene and Sirius next to James.

“You gotta be kidding me, Remus”, Marlene hissed as he sat down. All he did was shrug his shoulders.

Table next to them James glanced Sirius up and down. Some of Sirius's hair was a little messy from when Remus hands had stroked through the black strands.

Sirius had after all promised to suck him off for the maths homework.

“Mate, you look fucked”, he whispered.

“Sadly I’m not”

-

Remus opened the window up as the air inside had gotten warm and smelled like the cigarettes he had smoked.

“Where are your parents?” Mary asked from where he was sitting on the chair in Remus' room. Remus doesn’t know how and why Mary was in his house. Well Marlene was there too, but Marlene was always there and this time Mary had just come along. He didn’t get a clear explanation for it, but he just let it slide. For now.

“Dad’s on a work trip somewhere, I don’t know. Mom is.. Somewhere too. I don’t know and to be honest I don’t care enough to find out.”

Mary looked at Marlene who was sitting next to Remus on the bed. She just shook her head, but Mary didn’t take the hint.

“Are your parents like ever home?”

“Not really”, it was true. His dad is always working, going somewhere, doing something so he doesn't have to be home. Remus can’t blame him for it. And his mom, well. She is an alcoholic so it’s just better she isn’t in the picture that much. Maybe it’s cruel for him to think that, be happy that his parents aren’t home, but it’s easier that way. His dad left money on the table for him and that’s it. He survived. He is fine with being alone. Which he never really were, because of Sirius and Marlene.

Back in time when Remus and Sirius thing had started he wasn’t very comfortable with spending time in his house. Not because it was messy there or that he was embarrassed. The house itself isn’t too bad. His dad makes good, even great, money from his job. Nothing compared to Sirius house, but still not bad. But it was just the fact that it was his home, his room, his space and back then he wasn’t comfortable with sharing it with many people.

But apparently nowadays he was comfortable with sharing it with even Mary MacDonald so things have changed. Things have gotten better, not with Remus' family dynamic. But inside Remus’ head. And he thinks that probably is the best change he could have. Probably the most realistic too…

Mary didn’t answer anything which was for the best. Remus didn’t want or need her pity. He could wallow in his own self pity if needed.

“Where’s the bathroom?” Mary instead asked and got up.

“Door on the left from my room”, Remus said and put the cigarette stub to the empty can that was on his table. It wasn’t the greatest idea to smoke inside, but the mistake had already been done so why break the habit.

As Mary stepped out of the room the sound of the front door opening and closing came from further away in the house. Marlene turned to look at him.

“Is that your dad?”

Remus chuckled, “No”

“You keep the front door open?”

“Looks like it”

“Remus-”

“It’s probably Sirius”, it was just a guess, but it probably was him. The other boy usually came by when he felt like it and left that way too. Remus liked it, it felt familiar nowadays and it was nice to have him here. It made the house feel more like home. Or maybe it was more like the people than the walls surrounding him.

And as Remus had guessed Sirius' head poked out behind the door and he smiled. A real smile, the smile that was only meant for Remus. He didn’t say anything as he stepped in and flopped down on the bed, between the two of them.

It was one thing Remus liked. The friendship between Sirius and Marlene. At the beginning of their relationship Remus had actually been a bit nervous about it, because it had been important for him for his best friend and his boyfriend to get along. And after a while they have gotten close. It was actually scary how Sirius brought a more relaxed, more sassy side out of Marlene. They bickered like siblings, but still bonded through it.

It was more than Remus had wished for.

“Hello Mckinnon”, Sirius said as he settled on his back and then turned to look at Remus and pressed his face to Remus’ sweater-covered chest. “Hi, love”

This was another thing he liked. How Sirius showed his soft side even when Marlene was around. Because yes Sirius Black did have a soft side. It wasn’t all sharp edges and harsh words. No, behind that is a soft boy who wants attention and sweet words and most of it all graves for physical contact. And even though Remus isn’t the most gentle person himself, at least that wasn’t what he showed to most people. He still has a soft spot, especially for Sirius.

It’s sappy, but it’s true and Remus not so secretly loves it.

Though it still didn’t mean the two of them didn’t piss each other off and argue over stupid things.

When you put two strong personalities together there will be some arguments and yelling. But there’s not a single fight they haven’t settled and apologised afterwards.

“Hey”, Remus murmured back and ran his fingers through Sirius’ hair.

“Well look at you guys being all sappy”, Marlene cooed and pouted at them. Basically just mocking them.

Sirius turned to her and gave her a hard look.

“I will bite you”

“Scary”

Sirius rolled his eyes and rolled around again and was just about to open his mouth when Mary got back.

“Did Marlene leave- oh hey” Mary stood on the doorway and just looked at them. Sirius didn’t even try to hide his annoyance and groaned.

“What the fuck is she doing here?” he asked and sat up to glare at her. She glared right back. Remus and Marlene shared a look.

For the longest time there has been this annoyance and hatred between Sirius and Mary and no one knows why. Remus isn’t sure if the two of them know either. That’s why it was kind of an funny situation whenever Remus and Marlene spend time with her. Not that Sirius has any say with who Remus spends his time with, they don’t have to share friends. Most of the time they don’t. But do they need to tolerate them, it would probably be for the best. Is Mary his friend, no, yes?

It's hard to say.

“No need to be an asshole”, Remus said to Sirius and earned a look from all the three of them.

Point taken.

“Okay, yeah”, he said and again looked at Marlene.

“Can’t you guys just tolerate each other?” Marlene asked.

“No”

“Yes”

Sirius and Mary said at the same time.

“What is your problem with me anyways?” Mary asked and got closer to the bed. She sat down and crossed her arms over her chest.

“You know very well what my problem is with you, MacDonald”

“I don’t”, Remus pointed out. “But I would very much like to know”

Sirius looked at him and then at Mary and back to him. Mary rolled her eyes.

“We used to go out”, she stated.

“You what?” Remus and Marlene said at the same time. Marlene slapped her hand over her mouth, trying to not laugh. Remus looked at Sirius who didn’t look back, just looked down at his hands.

“We didn’t go out. We just fucked”, he said and now Remus tried not to laugh too. Marlene let out a chuckle.

“And actually”, Sirius kept going and turned to look at Mary. “Never realised to thank you”

“What?”

“Yeah”, Sirius pulled out the most fake looking smile Remus has ever seen. “Made me realise I’m gay, so thanks for that”

Mary looked at him with her mouth hanging open. Remus couldn’t take it anymore, but pressed his hands over his face to mumble the laughter.

“Fuck off, Black. Not my fault you couldn’t get it up”

“My exact point”, he said.

“Oh, up yours”

“Yeah that too actually”

“Okay, okay”, Marlene said and tried to calm her breathing. Remus didn’t even try at this point. “This still doesn’t really explain why you guys hate each other”

Sirius groaned out loud again and fell back to lay on the bed. He hid his upper body behind Remus’ back who was still recovering from all the laughing. He probably should have been upset about the fact that his boyfriend and a.. friend used to hook up. But seeing how badly the two of them tolerate each other it wasn’t necessary. It wouldn’t be even if Sirius and Mary were best friends. It’s in the past and more than anything else, Remus trusts Sirius.

“Can you make her leave, Rem?” Sirius whined behind him and wrapped his hands around his waist. Remus patted his hands and chuckled.

“Why me?” Mary asked annoyed

Sirius raised his head up to glance at Mary, “Bitch, because you’re unwanted here”

“Oh”, Marlene let out, clearly invested with the conversation.

“Sirius stop”, Remus said and that shut him up immediately. “Mary is going to stay and you’re going to be okay with that. That’s it”

Sirius muttered something that sounded like ‘I hate you all’ but plopped down again.

-

As Remus watched Sirius stomp through the cafeteria to the table Mary and her friends sat at, he started to regret his yesterday's decisions.

Sirius stopped in front of Mary and slammed his hands to the table. Remus sighed and ran a hand over his face.

The whole cafeteria quieted down to follow whatever was going to happen.

“Are you going to-”

“No”, Remus said before Marlene could end her sentence. He isn’t Sirius babysitter, if the wanker wants to do something dumb Remus will simply watch and observe.

“I always knew you were dumb, MacDonald”, Sirius started out. “But I never knew there really is no action behind those eyes”

Mary just looked at him eyebrows raised. It was starting to get interesting, Remus could feel it.

“You see, things that are my business are my business. I know, I know that nose of yours is fucking huge, but for your own sake just keep it out of my business. Just because you think you know something, doesn’t actually mean you do. So yeah keep your mouth shut of the things your brain can’t even process”

Sirius smirked and started walking away, still facing her.

“Or you know, show a dick down your throat to keep it shut. We both know you like it, yeah?”

Remus glanced at Marlene who let out a chuckle but quickly tried to cover it.

With that he turned around and walked away. The whole cafeteria stayed quiet as Sirius very pointedly slammed the door shut. After a couple of seconds eyes started to draw on Remus, he could feel it. He sighed and sat back on his chair. The same time he saw how James was going to get up from his seat two tables away from him.

“Sit down, Potter”, he said calmly and James, in fact, did.

He took a painfully slow sip from his bottle of water while making eye contact with Mary. Then he sighed again and got up. He slouched towards the door's direction, but on his way there stopped in front of Mary.

“You know”, he started and ran a hand through his hair. “I have absolutely no idea what he was talking about”

He chuckled quietly and one of the girls sitting with Mary raised her eyebrows. “But I mean you all really should mind your business”

He looked around the whole cafeteria and all the people that were staring at him. “It’s getting kinda old”

Then he walked out too and found Sirius near the front doors.

“You really had to?” was the first thing he asked as he was him. Sirius smiled widely and wrapped his arms around Remus’ middle who walked them both out.

“Did you like it though? I thought of the ending for an hour beforehand”

Remus sighed, “Yeah I could tell”

Sirius pressed a sloppy kiss to his jaw. Remus just rolled his eyes. Just that and thought how he possibly loved someone as stupid as Sirius.

“Wanker”, he muttered under his breath.
