a distraction
A distraction. Sirius Black has always been a distraction to Remus. And that was no exception the night they were all at Lily’s watching a movie, because when Sirius had offered to walk Remus home he had been too distracted by the thought that he had completely forgotten his beanie at Lily’s.
Normally a beanie wouldn't be such a big deal, but it happened to be his favorite beanie, one he had a tendency to wear nearly everyday in the cold weather…so it being gone for just a few days felt wrong in many ways.
So he made the journey to Lily’s to retrieve his lost accessory.
“Lily? Are you here?” he called into the flat as he walked in using the spare key she had given him. The voice that answered back wasn't Lily’s…
“She left to go pick up James. She’ll be back in a bit.” Shari walked her way into the living room, sitting down on the couch in front of Remus as seductively as possible.
It wasn't that Shari was unattractive, in fact, she was a very beautiful girl and Remus found her extremely attractive, but he had always been in a relationship or at least interested in someone since the time he had known her and her assertiveness always made him a bit uneasy.
“Oh uh, I was just looking for my beanie that I left here the other night. Have you seen it?”
Shari smiled at him and pulled his hat out from behind her back, “I recognized it as the one you always wore…figured you'd be coming back for it.” she sent him a sly look as she nodded towards the couch, gesturing for him to come sit next to her.
He laughed shyly and obliged, sitting next to her. Instead of handing him back the thing he had come there for, she set it on the coffee table in front of them and moved in close to him.
“How have you been?”
Remus found it almost amusing that a question about his well being could be said so suggestively.
“I've been alright.”
“I heard about you and Sirius.” Shari placed her hand on his thigh.
“Yeah…” he knew he should move away. Grab his beloved hat and leave but for some reason he didn't.
“You know…” Shari leaned in so that her mouth was hovering over the shell of his ear, her hot breath hitting his neck, “I never thought you and Sirius were a good match…” her hand moved up to the top of his thigh, curling into the inside of it, and pressed her chest into his side, “I always pictured you with someone more, soft…someone more feminine…”she was practically on top of him now and was shamelessly rubbing herself against him.
Remus didn't like Shari like that. Not at all. He didn't want anyone who wasn't Sirius…but Sirius didn't want him...and Shari did.
He turned to face her and slid his hand into blonde hair on the back of her neck. She was the opposite of Sirius and maybe that’s what he needed. Maybe he needed a distraction.
He leaned in and kissed her.
She didn't hesitate for a single moment before pulling him on top of her, wrapping her legs around his waist. He slid his hands underneath her shirt and she pulled the rest of it off, then his as she tugged on his hair and kissed him roughly.
Remus let her undress him, let her touch him, he felt nothing but stimulation. Like when he was a young teenager and everything turned him on with no emotional connection involved…that's how it felt with Shari, but he didn't care. He didn't care because for the first time in a month, he wasn't thinking about or feeling sad about Sirius. He was distracted.
James, Lily, and Sirius were walking up the stairs to Lily’s apartment. Originally, Lily was just going to pick up James but when she arrived at his place, she found the two flatmates/brothers in a very serious conversation about Remus.
Obviously having heard that they were talking about her best friend, she joined in. The conversation ended up being very intense and Lily suggested that they should take it back to her place where they wouldn't be so distracted.
So now they were walking up the flight of stairs, continuing their conversation.
“I should have fought harder. I should've been on the same page as Remus. Remus didn't want to give up, and he wouldn't have if I hadn't ended it and we still would have been together. We should still be together.”
“Why the sudden change Sirius? Why did you change your mind?” Lily asked as she searched her bag for the keys to unlock her front door.
“It was when we kissed. When we kissed I- I realized that I was such a fucking idiot and I never should have ended it. I want him back. I want to give us another shot.”
Lily and James shared a smug, knowingly look before Lily looked at Sirius with a sly smile, “Well maybe you should tell him that.” Sirius smiled down at his shoes as Lily turned to unlock her front door, “That’s odd, the front door is already unlocked…maybe Shari forgot to lock it before she left…”
Lily opened the door and all three of them walked into her living room, and all three of them paled at what they saw.
Shari was still home, and Remus was there, and they were both on the couch...shagging.
Shari’s hands were clenched onto Remus’ biceps, his hands placed firmly on her hips. Their bodies were colliding with force, which Shari made known by her loud exaggerated moans and yells.
“Oh my god!” The realization of what she was seeing finally hit Lily as she yelled and quickly turned away.
Her yelling caught the attention of Remus and Shari who quickly jumped apart.
James and Lily were turning away, trying not to see more than they already have, but Sirius’ eyes wouldn't leave Remus. His mouth was closed in a tight line and his eyes had tears in them. He had kissed him just a few nights ago. He was planning on asking for him back. But looking at Remus now, he felt his heart drop to his stomach…he felt it shatter and disappear from his body completely. He had never felt this horrid in his entire life.
Remus glanced up with full intentions of apologizing to Lily, but instead locked eyes with a dejected Sirius.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. He fucked up. He fucked up so badly. “Sirius…”
Sirius pulled his eyes away from Remus, turned, and walked out the door, not even bothering to close it behind him.
“Shit.” Remus frantically pulled on all of his discarded clothes and without another word or glance to anyone else in the room, ran out after Sirius.
“Sirius!” Sirius was walking slowly down the road, head down, hands in pockets, while Remus chased after him. “Sirius! Sirius, wait!” Remus finally caught up to him, breathing heavy, “Please let me explain-”
“Explain what? Explain why I walked into Lily’s apartment to see you fucking some bird on her couch?”
“I-”
“You really didn't wait to move on huh?” Sirius was glaring daggers into Remus, but behind his anger was hurt.
“I- it wasn't like that. I was sad I needed a distraction-”
“So you went over and fucked her?”
“No! Yes…I- i was looking for my beanie.”
Sirius stared dumbfounded at him, before letting out a bitter scoff, “Looks like you found it.” He turned on his heels and stalked away from Remus.
“Sirius-”
“Fuck off, Lupin.”
Remus watched Sirius walk away, feeling worse than he ever had.
“Fuck off, Lupin!” Sirius joked with a laugh and a slight shove to Remus’ shoulder, who was currently making fun of his music taste.
“I’m just saying! I give you this cute song and you give me a sad one! I don't really see how that shows our equality in this relationship.”
They had been talking about songs they associated with the other as they laid in bed and listened to music.
“What do you mean?” Sirius asked as he gazed lovingly at Remus.
“Good old fashioned lover boy is a fun upbeat song! And when I tell you that’s the song that makes me think of you, you tell me that Mr. Loverman reminds you of me? That’s a sad song Sirius!”
“Is not!”
“Is too! It literally talks about missing someone! Its a sad fucking song!”
“But you're my loverman! And I miss you whenever I'm not with you! So it totally works, you're just being cynical!”
Remus looked at his boyfriend with a soft smile. It was a sad song, but he had to admit…it was sweet nonetheless, “Hand me your phone.”
“What?” Sirius laughed.
“Hand me your phone. Unless you have something to hide?” Remus joked with a raised eyebrow and Sirius laughed and handed him his phone.
Sirius watched as he typed away and messed with his phone for a minute before handing it back to him.
Sirius stared down at his seemingly unchanged phone for a moment before asking, “What’d you do?”
“I linked our spotify accounts, so we share one now basically. So when we miss each other we can just play songs for the other.” Sirius said nothing back, just smiled at him, “Awfully romantic on my part if I do say so myself.”
Sirius looked down at his phone and saw the two pinned playlists, one he recognized as his own called “Remus John Lupin<3” and another that he did not, labeled, “I Love You, Sirius Black”. Suddenly his phone started playing a song from the second playlist…one that he didn't click on. He looked up and saw Remus holding his phone, the same song playing with a bashful grin.
“This way you'll always know.”
Sirius lunged forward and kissed him soundly.
