A new friend
Felix walked over to the door after hearing a knock. Opening it he, and Alexi who had tagged along, saw a 28 year old women. She was occupied by a eleven year old boy, a six year old boy, and a one year old girl.
"Hi." The women said "I don't mean to bother you but me and my kids just moved here and I was hoping to met some people around the neighborhood.".
"Oh, it's no trouble at all. We didn't really have anything to do today anyway, why don't you come in." Felix quickly replied.
"Thank you so much. I'm Alana I'm 28. This is my oldest kid Avery he is 11. My middle child Jacob who is 6. And my youngest Maryanne who is 1."
"It's nice to meet you all. I'm Felix I'm 21 and this is my son Alexi who is six."
Once the introductions and pleasantries were done Felix and Alana sat down at the kitchen table to talk. Meanwhile Avery took Maryanne to the living room to watch T.V.. As for the two six year olds they went to Alexi's room to play.
Arriving in the bedroom Jacob and Alexi sat down in the middle of the floor.
"Are you a boy or a girl?' Jacob queried.
"You know you don't have to be either of those. But, I'm a boy I think."
"I'm a boy to. No matter what my daddy says."
"What does your daddy say?"
"Well, mommy says it doesn't matter because we are away from him now and 'cause he's wrong. But, my daddy said before that I wasn't a boy and that there was something wrong with me and lots of other mean things."
"That's not fair. You are a boy as long as you say so. Why didn't he think you were a boy?"
"Nobody thought I was a boy 'till I was five. Everyone called me a girl. But, I told them what I really am. And mommy and Avery were okay with it. And I didn't really know anyone else. Plus Maryanne was just born so she didn't know anything. But, my daddy wasn't nice. He was never really nice. That's why mommy and me and Maryanne and Avery left him."
"I'm sorry your daddy was mean to you. Are you trans?"
"Yeah. That's what mommy said it's called."
"Okay. I can't tell you much 'cause she didn't say I could. But, I have another friend who is trans to."
"Really?"
"Yeah! She's like my best friend ever. I've known her my whole life."
"Really? So, you were there when she came out as a girl? What did you think about it?"
"Yeah, I was. And I didn't really care. She's still the same person and I still love her. I just had to change what I called her. It was kind of hard at first but it doesn't matter because she is more important."
"When did she tell you?"
"Last year."
"So, around the same time I came out?"
"Yep."
With that the two children moved on from their conversation already growing close. To play with Alexi's connecting plastic blocks.
