Chapter 1
Sirius slipped out of the castle without anyone noticing, he knew how to be sneaky when he wanted to be. He took off towards the quidditch pitch, today were the Slytherin tryouts and there was no way he was going to miss it. He kept his head down, rushing to the stands to hide in the dark so he could watch. Today was important, today his little brother was trying out for the quidditch team. Something they whispered about in the dark walls of their house when they were little, dreams coming true one day. Sirius made his team, but he needed to know if his little brother was having his come true today. He sat down and got comfortable. He knew Regulus would be trying out for seeker, he knew he would get it. He had too. Sirius watched tryouts begin, memories of childhood filled his head. Memories of pretending to play quidditch together, memories of pretending to fly, memories of getting to fly with their cousins when they were small.
“I know you think you’re sneaky, but you aren’t.” Sirius jumped and hit his head against a post.
“Ouch!” He yelped some before looking up, his older cousin was looking down on him with a smile.
“You always were the worst at hide and seek.” She sat next to him on the ground, Sirius looked at her worriedly.
“Narcissa Black on the grass. Alert the family.”
“Don’t be a prat. Why are you hiding?”
“How did you find me?”
“Saw you dodge out of the castle, wasn’t hard to figure out why.”
“We haven’t talked.” Sirius whispered, watching the beaters take their turn.
“Sometimes, you don’t need to talk to know the other one cares.”
“You’re talking about Andy.” He said to her, sitting back to look at her.
“I am.”
“She knows you love her.” Sirius said, not wanting to face his older cousin.
“I know Regulus knows you love him.”
“We haven’t spoke.”
“Andy and I don’t really. Neither do you and I.”
“You whisper to me a lot, plus I know it’s you who sends owls when I’m sad.” Sirius whispered again, not liking admitting things out loud.
“Sometimes it’s the things we don’t say.”
“Is he okay?”
“He was nervous for today. I don’t think anyone else knew though.”
“What did he say?”
“We spoke last night before bed.” He had a surge of jealousy, Narcissa still had the privilege to speaking with his brother before bed like he once had.
“Shocked he showed emotion in your common room.”
“I never said the common room.”
“He let you into his dorm?”
“He came into mine.” She said looking at her cousin. Sirius looked hurt, once upon a time his brother would come to his room.
“Does he still wrap his blanket around him like a cape when he comes to your room?” Sirius felt Narcissa pull back, he leaned into her some, knowing she had lost a sibling the same way almost. It was a comfort, having her wrap her arms around him like she always did when they were small.
“Yeah, like he’s about to be a vampire of the night.” Narcissa laughed.
“He used to run around with it, almost like bat wings.”
“Uh, uh, uh, I believe you called them dragon wings.” She corrected.
“Same green blanket? I see it in his room every now and then when he forgets to close his door the entire way.”
“That isn’t creepy at all Sirius.”
“Shut up.”
“Yes, the same shiny green blanket and same floppy bunny.” Sirius smiled at her, finally fulling relaxing into his cousin.
“Happy to see somethings don’t change.”
“Want to know a secret?”
“Do I?”
“You do. When my mother first started to disown Andromeda, I used to sneak into her room every night with her so we could cuddle like we did when we were small.” Her voice was softer than before.
“He never did.”
“I think he wishes he did.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Trying to push you to see him, before it’s too late.”
“What do you mean?”
“You don’t think Bella and Andy ever cuddled when it started do you?”
“No. I don’t have any memories of Bella being pleasant though.” He felt Narcissa laugh behind him.
“I guess I don’t have many either.”
“Do you think he’ll make the team?”
“I don’t doubt it. Remember your toy snitch? He even has that with him lately, he plays with it when he thinks no one knows.”
“What are you? Some Black secret spy?”
“No, I’m the cousin who is just worried about everyone.”
“When does he even have time to play with it?”
“Certain parts of the castle he is convinced he’s all alone and will. I know he still talks as if you’re there with him.” Sirius felt light at the thought.
“I should talk to him or try too. I barely try too anymore.” He thought about their last fight over Christmas, he was just happy to have gained the attention of Regulus.
“You know, as we sit under the stands of the quidditch pitch, we could watch from the stands. Might be a better view.” She tried.
“He can’t know I’m here. I don’t want to throw him off his game.”
“Lucius will be looking for me soon.” She sounded distant as she stated it.
“You can hide here with me.”
“I found you, not the best hiding spot you’ve ever had there Sirius.”
“It was the best I could think of.”
“Well,” she paused, looking softly at him, “be safe okay? I’ll be watching.”
“That’s not ominous at all.”
“We all are, let’s be honest.” He felt her kiss his head before sneaking off to leave his hiding spot. Sirius stayed there watching the players in the sun. Before long his brother had his turn, he did amazing. Sirius was silently cheering, wishing he could be loud, wishing he wasn’t on the side lines.
“I’m so proud of you Reggie. I am so proud.” Sirius whispered, his heart full for a moment like they were actually brothers once again.
