Testing

Tuesday, May 26th, 1992

First and second years had three days of testing, while the older grades had five. So, third-seventh years started testing on Monday and finished Friday, but the first two years didn't begin until Tuesday and ended on Thursday. Everyone, except the students who took more classes than necessary, had two exams each day.

It was 7:50 A.M. when Rose arrived at her first exam, Transfiguration. This exam contained an hour long multiple-choice test with sixty questions, followed by a thirty minute period to write a short essay about the necessity of transfiguration, and finally performing a spell to change a mouse into a snuffbox for Professor McGonagall.

Actually, they changed a snuffbox transformed into a mouse back into a snuffbox, but most of the students didn't know that. Alex did, though. It was the only reason why she agreed to perform the spell-she would never do a real transfiguration spell on an animal.

The first test paper and answer sheet were handed out at 8:00, signaling the beginning of the two-hour testing period.

Alex anxiously ran her hand through her ponytail, before looking down at the test.

Question 1: What is the first transfiguration spell all first year students attending Illvermorny or a European school are required to learn?

Alex let out a relived sigh. That was easy!

She quickly selected her answer: C. Change a matchstick to a needle.

Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.

Thursday, May 28th, 1992

Alex cracked her back before standing and exited the History of Magic classroom. She had just taken her last exam of the year: a two hour long test with one hundred multiple-choice questions and a twelve to twenty-four inche written response.

It was 12:00 now, time for lunch. They would have the rest of the day free, no revisions or anything. The older kids would finish testing tomorrow, then the last quidditch game Gryffindor VS. Slytherin was Saturday. The whole school would have the thirtieth free to do whatever they wanted, then the feast and packing would happen on the thirty-first. Finally, they would ride the train home ending the school year on the first.

After Tuesday, June 1st, Rose would never be a first year again. The next time she stepped on school grounds, September 1st, she would be a second year. She would be twelve.

That was....That was unbelievable.

It was still the 28th, but it was now 1:32 P.M.

Alex was laying next to the lake, sunbathing in a red tee-shirt and black shorts. It was so hot, but it felt nice. Being out here now felt timeless. Nothing mattered, just sun.

Alex woke up sometime later, wonderfully warm. She didn't know it, but it was 3:03 P.M., she had been out here for approximately two hours.

Instead of getting up, Alex just rolled over and went back to sleep. Right now wasn't the time to be awake.

Just sun.
