First United meeting

Alex walked excitedly into the ROR, the first United meeting was happening in half an hour and she needed to get ready. The day had been normal after the morning announcement. Everything had been the same except DADA, of course. Professor Crews was different, but he was fine. They just spent the class learning about him and his plans. They also introduced themselves to him. He was nice, a bit quiet, but still interactive. But, right now it was United time, not class time.

Alex had the room conjure a chalkboard, different types of chairs, and some other items she though would be useful. Then she waited.

Gracie, Kat, Damian, and Blaise were the first people to arrive. They came together and arrived at 4:50. The five friends spent the next five minutes chatting before the next person arrived. Ron.

"Ron?" Damian questioned as he saw his roommate enter the room. Ron cringed and turned to leave, but Alex grabbed her wrist. Gently, only for a couple seconds. But, it stopped her.

"I'm glad you came." Alex said quietly, once Ron turned back around.

"I almost didn't. But, then, then I did."

Alex smiled and questioned her "Do you wan't a name tag, or a pronoun pin, or both, or neither?".

"Both." Ron replied quietly, eventually. When did she get so shy?

Alex handed Ron a black enamel pin that read "She/Her" in white. Ron stuck it to her dark blue sweater while Alex got a pen and name tag.

"What do you want me to put?"

Ron hesitated for a moment, before answering. "Well, I'm not entirely sure about my name yet. But, I have been thinking about this one name. And, um can you put that?"

"Of course. And you can always change the name later if you so choose. So, what's the name?"

Another beat of silence. "Toni."

"I or Y?"

"I."

"Here you go!" Alex said cheerfully handing Toni the tag. The other girl put it on the right side of her sweater, the opposite side as the pin.

"Do you want me to officially introduce you to the others?"

Toni nodded. So, Alex walked Toni in front of the other few pre-teens and prepared to talk. "Okay guys, this is Toni Weasley, Damian's roommate. The first official member of the group, besides us."

The other kids cheered for Toni, and complimented her. Finally Damian spoke.

"I'm glad to see you here, Toni."

"Thanks." Toni said in a tearful tone, though she wasn't crying yet.

The next ten minutes were filled with a steady stream of people. Alex helped them all get accurate pronoun pins and name tags, though Hannah Abbott refused the second.

At 5:05 Alex called the meeting. Not including her, Damian, Gracie, Kat, and Blaise there were fifteen people. Including them there was 20.

"Hello, and good afternoon, nearly evening, to everyone here. My name is Alexandria Dursely, I'm the founder of this club. I did get some help though. So, please recognize my sister Gracie Dursely, and three of my friends, Damian Granger, Blaise Zabini, and Katalina Malfoy."

The other four kids stood as their names were called, and the other students clapped. Once that was done Alex went back to talking.

"Now, I made this club because I want equality for everyone. I don't want us to be segregated by race, house, blood status, gender, sexuality, money, anything. I believe in the idea of all people coming together. Uniting. And I think that the best way for me to do that is by creating a safe space for everyone, to come to and relax. To help themselves and others. I know the discrimination. I'm trans, and bisexual. I'm mixed, Indian. I'm a Slytherin. I was adopted, even if by family. I grew up in the non-magical world. Other than knowledge I got from books and the few things my mom knew, I knew nothing more than a muggleborn who has just been introduced to this world. So, I get it. And I want to change it."

The room dissolved into applause again. Alex listened again before she continued on.

Alex described the different events and activities they would do. She got suggestions and answered questions. She barely believed it when she checked the time and saw it was 6:51.

"Alright, everyone. Today was great, but it is time for dinner. So, we should leave. The next meeting is on Wednesday, please come if you are able. And please spread the word about the club, encourage others to come. I know we can make a change if we just work together."

With that the club dissolved, and Alex went down to dinner with her friends.

Maybe she could do this.
