A new person, not so new problems

Wednesday

Alex was walking out of her last class for the day. Typically she would find her friends, go to her dorm, or go to the library. Today, however, she chose to walk around instead.

It was a good thing to, as at some point down a hallway she ran into a crying classmate. Said classmate fell to the ground, so Alex helped them up.

Once they were standing Alex recognized them. It was Ron Weasley, one of Damian's roommates.

"Ron, are you okay."

The taller child flinched, but nodded.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Then why are crying?"

Ron wiped the tears off his face, clearly embarrassed. He tried to make himself stop crying, but it wasn't working.

"Huh?" Alex questioned.

"It's nothing. Just...something my brother said."

"What did he say? Was it mean."

"No, it wasn't."

"Then why did it make you cry?"

"...I don't know."

"What was it?"

Ron stayed still and silently for nearly a minute, but eventually gave in.

"He...He said I was a handsome young man."

"Why did that make you cry?"

"Because-Because...because maybe I don't want to be handsome! Or-or a man!"

"Oh, are you trans?"

Ron only knew that word because of the commotion at the sorting ceremony.

"No." He wanted to say so much more. But, he couldn't.

" Your not?"

"Yes."

"Yes, you are trans? Or yes, you are not trans."

"I don't know!"

"Okay, it's okay. You don't have to know. You're going to be fine."

"I'm not going to be."

"Yes, you are. I know it's really hard right now, and I'm sure you're scared. But, you can and will get through it."

"How do you know?"

"I did."

"But, you were so young."

"That doesn't mean I didn't struggle. That I don't still struggle."

"That's-that's true, sorry."

"No reason to apologize. Ron, do you think you're trans?"

"I-I don't know! I just really want to be a girl. And I really hate people calling me a boy."

"If that's how you feel, then you're probably trans. Why don't you try it out. You can start using feminine pronouns and all that, and if you like it we can go from there."

"I don't know. I doubt anyone would take me seriously."

"I'll make them. You already have me and my friends backing you up, I promise."

"But, what about my family? What if they don't like this?"

"This isn't about your family, it's about you."

"I guess that's true."

"So, are you going to do it?"

"I don't know. Can I think about it?"

"Of course."

With that the two eleven year olds went off on their own, with a lot to think about.
