Wingfic - Worldbuilding

A world where portals to another dimension pop into being and five percent of the population have wings.
- Vocabulary/Terms
- Ability - powers derived from use of mana
- Aerie - 1. n. The ‘guild’ or chapter. 2. The ‘guildhall’ or ‘home base" Also known as Tower or Hall. Can also be spelled Eyrie
- Aethergate - the ‘dungeon’ of the world. Comes in varieties. Labyrinth, colosseum, complex, battle royale, double, or red/sealed/inverse. Also known as a gote, portal, or dungeon. Powered by a concentration of mana, usually the cores of a 'boss' or a 'horde'. Once the powersource is out of the gate, it shuts down fairly quickly.
- Aetherworld - The otherworld. A constant but not imminent threat, a dimension overlapping earth similar the stories of Faerie. Very dangerous and saturated with mana.
- Angel - An avian who is B rank or higher and has multiple abilities
- Archangel - an avian who has S Rank or higher and has multiple abilities
- Aspect - the theme or scope of an avian's abilities and talents with
- mana. Purview. i.e. That is not within my aspect.
- Avian - an evolutionary offshoot of human being with wings and supernatural abilities and and ability to produce, tolerate, and utilize mana in concentrated amounts. They are the guardians of humanity.
- Coterie - a ‘party’. Made from three to ten fledged.
- Council - three most powerful Archangels in each continent gathered together every four years.
- Crystals - monster cores or mana crystals. often used as power sources, potion/craft material. Can be artificially made but takes shaping skills and power. Valuable.
- Federation - the offshoot of government that presides over avian affairs.
- Fledged - the ‘hunters’ of the world. They enter the aethergates to
- close them. Avians C rank and above must serve five years as one of the Fledged.
- Fledging - an secondary developmental growth period for avian, parallel to puberty.
- Fledgling - an avian whose aspect has not yet developed. A child
- Flight - the act of ‘raiding’
- Flock - a ‘raid’ or ‘large party’. From eleven to nineteen fledged.
- Hand - the right and left hand of those in power such as a throne or regent
- Migration - a ‘large raid’. From twenty onwards
- Murmuration - a ‘mass raid’. Collaboration between two or more Aeries is required.
- Nulls - cancels out a certain trait. Can dampen but not suppress a superior rank
- Regent - except for the Throne, the most powerful Arch in the country
- Throne - the most powerful Arch in a continent
- Mana - an energy abundant in the Aetherworld that Avians are able to produce, tolerate, and utilize. Also known as magic or qi.
- Talent - a gift like luck or uncommon grace or an exceptional singing voice that is a result of an ability.
- Enhanced - where self is enhanced
- Enhancer - when others are enhanced ex. Nulls, Amplifiers
- Extrinsic - affects others
- Intrinsic - affects self
- Metaphysical - mental powers
- Physical - based on earth, physical
- Potential - those who rank E and above on the Ranking Scale.
- Potions - liquid or semiliquid that is achieved through brewing. Powerful. Kind of like extradimensional chemistry. Leave the romantic symbolism at home.

- The Fledging - a secondary developmental growth period for avians parallel to puberty. Comes in stages
- The first molt happens around the start of puberty or when the child is ten to twelve. Two large obpyriform protuberances, starting at the base of the scapula, will form. After approximately a week's development the skin will thin and dry out and fledgling wings will burst the sac. The dead sheath falls off.
- the children who Fledge will be relocated to specialized schools to learn things like flying, etiquette, care, career education ect.

- The second molt happens when fledgling is sixteen to eighteen. The grey childrens down will begin to molt. Bloodfeather will grow in as the wings lengthen and strengthen. After approximately a fortnight adolescent fledglng will be in.
- The third molt happens anytime after the primary molt. Unlike the the other two molts, the third molt is a gradual process. Adult feathers will replace adolescent fledging as aspect develops
