Chapter 1
"I want you to go to Lupin's. It's been 3 months, Sirius, and I think it's high time you went to his place and ensured your absolute safety because he's the only one that I trust would keep you safe and guarded."
Sirius would have laughed maniacally, if it wasn't the universal truth.
"Besides, don't you two have a little catching up to do?"
Sirius was almost sure he saw his former headmaster wink obscenely at him. Sirius and Remus' relationship was such an open secret back at Hogwarts and it was no wonder that Dumbledore, Mcgonaghall or any of the Order members hadn't kept their slight teasing to themselves. In fact, a few of them had always made it a point to embarrass the two Marauders as much as they could the very first time.
But it had been 12 years and Sirius hadn't expected Dumbledore to just go at him like that.
He scratched the back of his neck, much similar to his animagus' fashion for his liking, and looked a bit hesitant. He paced back and forth and sighed.
"Sirius, you need to see him. If not now, at some point of time, because there's no way you're capable of avoiding him all your life. We have a mission to get to, and it would be easier if you mended things with everyone because none of us is really sure of anything anymore. I don't want you regretting anything in life -"
Sirius glared at him, scoffing at his audacity to bring up regrets and grief.
"Anymore."
"Also, if not for yourself, do this for Lupin. Merlin knows what he's been through when you were not around here, and he would welcome you with everything he has. That's something I can assure you of."
Sirius mentally cursed himself for being so easily convincible. He sighed again and looked up at Dumbledore.
"Are you gonna be informing him that I'll be staying there for a while? I don't wanna spring up on him all of a sudden and crash into his personal space. I don't think he'd be expecting or looking forward to having some company over, after a fucking decade." Sirius laughed humorlessly - a nervous habit of his.
"Oh, don't you worry about it. I think it's best if you showed up at his door unannounced. He'd definitely be thrilled, I'm sure." Dumbledore smirked at him, mischievously.
"I know I shouldn't be joking about an upcoming war but, I can't wait to summon the Order again and watch you two dance around each other all the time." He laughed out loud and patted Sirius on the back.
Sirius slapped a hand to his face, groaning loudly, and then proceeded to transform into his animagus form. He barked once at his former headmaster, who just smiled back at him with an assurance, and padded out the back door.
