The Beginning
December 18th 1973
Quidditch pitch
Grace kept Remus secret to herself and hadn’t yet asked the boys why it had to be such a secret, today was the last quidditch game before break and also the first game Regulus and Grace would play in, it was Slytherin VS Ravenclaw.
Regulus swept into the changing tent and pulled on his jersey embroidered on it was his last name in shining silver thread with a big number two, Sirius’s quidditch jersey number was the number one so he only found it fitting he have the second number. Lucius walked into the tent and blatantly ignored him until right before they were to go on and Regulus was going to go look for Grace.
“Not so fast Black, stay a second” Lucius grabbed his shoulder and Regulus tensed, his wand was tucked into his bag they weren’t allowed to bring it onto the pitch.
“Yes Malfoy”
“Tell you’re little mudblood to watch her back, just because she’s on this team doesn’t mean she’s safe” he smirked
“Look if you’re planning something Malfoy-“ he stuttered
“Stop there, i’m simply giving a warning Black, well i’ll see you on the pitch” he smiled and walked out of the tent.
“shit”
Once on the pitch Regulus spotted Grace beaming and waving at her sister who aggressively waved back, he would simply just keep an eye on her during the game, she would be fine.
“Brooms up! GO!” Tomas’s voice echoed through the field, he was the announcer for quidditch games and he was pretty good at it, Ari smiled at him from the sidelines and he sent her a wink which had a few girls roll their eyes at her, he had gotten more attractive over the summer and now had everyone swooning over him but he stayed with Ari who really did love him.
They took off and immediately Grace layed eyes on the snitch and dove for it, the ravenclaw seeker soon after.

EVANS BLUDGER
Regulus turned to find Grace dodging Sol as he passed. Grace was being tailed by a bludger and it would not leave her alone, she dove around it under the bleachers above the goals still following the snitch.
“Fuck fuck fuck” Regulus muttered diving towards the stands to find Sirius and James
“STOP THE BLUDGER ITS BEEN BEWITCHED” he yelled and then circled back to find Grace who was still oblivious to the danger tumbling behind her.
“I can hit it, i promise” said Remus
“If you hit Grace she’d plummet 40 feet”
“i won’t trust me, petrificus totalus”
The bludger stopped mid air and began its own plummet
EVERYONE IN THE AIR HEAD TO A SIDE
Quickly the players separated except for Grace
Mcgonagall and Dumbledore and Madam Hooch hurried to the field to investigate the bludger
Evans caught the snitch

SLYTHERIN WINS
Grace tumbled onto the ground snitch in hand as the crowd went wild every stand even Ravenclaw was cheering.
“Lucius!” Regulus ran over to him “You said you had nothing planned!”
“I said no such thing,don’t worry Black she caught the snitch maybe we’ll keep her around isn’t that right Snape?” Lucius tossed his head over to Snape in the stands, he immediately paled.
“Bloody hell” Regulus mounted his broom and flew over to the Slytherin stands quickly followed by James,Sirius,Peter and Remus running up the stands.”What did you do Snape” he sneered
“Nothing, I didn’t do anything!” He looked down to the stands refusing to make eye contact with him.
“I asked for a fucking answer Snape, what the fuck did you do!” He yelled again
“Regulus, wait! back down” Sirius grabbed his brothers shoulder and pulled him back.
“You saw what he did!”
“I know, but we’ll get him for it ok” said James staring at Snape
“Watch your back Snivellus”sneered Peter standing in front of him, “Wouldn’t want us to break your abnormally large nose would you?”
Remus let out a small chuckle as Severus' cheeks turned red, “Alright boys come on” he sighed, dragging them away and then he quickly turned to Snape, “You’re testing the wrong group of people you know that right?”
“I didn't think the jinx would actually work” he whispered
“Don’t admit that to me, I won't stick around and defend you” Remus walked off with the rest of the group to find Grace who really couldn’t care less about the bludger and was still basking in the glory of her win.
December 20,1973
“What are you guys planning?” sighed Lily sitting down next to Remus
“They’re not going to tell you Lily” laughed Grace as her sister pleaded with Remus and Peter.
“Well why?” She whined
“Because you’d tell Snivellus immediately, we know he’s been crying to you this whole time” said James scribbling in a notebook and showing it to Sirius who nodded for approval.
“It probably wasn’t even him” she said, she was defending him, again.
“God Lily give it a rest” sighed Peter
“What!” She yelled, she was stressed and angry at the boys only because she didn’t know what was coming.
“He admitted to it! He sent a bludger after your sister and you’re defending his greasy ass” yelled Sirius, Grace stayed silent, she knew the boys were right but she also knew how much Lily cared about Severus.
“Look Lily you shouldn’t be friends with him, he’s not even a pureblood and I’ve never seen him defend you against his prejudiced friends when they talk about you and Grace” added Regulus
“he’s scared guys, you slytherin are all so judgmental and mean!”she yelled back at ask of them
“What the hells that supposed to mean Lily” Grace finally stood up to talk to her sister, Grace hardly ever yelled, she spoke in clear concise sentences, she emphasized words,she hit people where she knew It would hurt, it was terrifying.
“You know exactly what it means, it’s a slytherins way or no way!” Lily was angry so she kept pressing.
“Lily-“ James started to near her but Sirius pulled him back.
“Our way or no way? I find that kind of funny coming from you Lily.”
“What the hell does that mean Grace?”
“You say we’re mean and judgemental and self centered, let’s take you for a review then, you’re ignorant and blind, you let people walk all over you, you’re weak that’s what you are, you ignore the clear signs that Severus Snape is not your friend but you’ll scrutinize your true friends who defend you whenever they get the chance, you are nothing but a weak little girl who can’t stand her own ground and always has someone else fighting your battles, oh and the person who does fight for you, you use him and ignore him, you shit talk him to all your girlfriends when he’d do anything for you because you are a selfish little gryffindor, I thought you were all supposed to selfless, that bloody hat clearly made a mistake with you.”
Lily stepped back, she took in the words her sister was saying to her and she looked around to her friends, James was staring awkwardly at the ground with tears in his eyes and Sirius was staring at Regulus who had his eyes glued to Grace, Peter was standing next to Remus and they were both looking at James.For once they were all silent, for the first time, James was silent.
“James” Lily started towards him before Remus stopped her,
“I think you should go Lily, just for now ok?” He said avoiding eye contact with her, his eyes still lingering on James who was still staring at the floor.
“Remus let me just apologize” she said
“You can do it another time ok Lils” said Peter giving her a small smile, “we promise right Remus”
“Yea, another time ok?”
“Ok” she gave James one last look and turned to Grace
“I don’t know when you became such a bad person”
Then she walked away.
Grace immediately turned to James ,“James I’m -“
“We should go too Grace '' Regulus took her bag from the ground and put his other hand on her back and moved her away, Grace went willingly and as soon as they both turned away she heard a small gasp for air leave James’s mouth.
“I’ve messed up haven’t I” she sighed
“A little” he admitted “They’ll forgive you”
“Lily” she said
“I don’t know how you two work”
“We’ve never argued like that, but god, I was sick of it, the way she treats James, the way she praises Snape. It’s disgusting” ,Regulus stayed silent, “I hope he gets what deserves that greasy git, I hope they don’t hold back on him” she muttered.
There was no prank at the end of that day, they all got on the train, Lily sat with Severus and Grace and Regulus took their own compartment leaving the four boys to be alone with each other.
“You’ll write this time?”she asked
“I’ll try” he said, looking up at her.
“Can I write to James?”
“I think so, I think he’d appreciate it.”
“You’ll be alright this break right, you and Sirius”
“Yeah, Lucius and Narcissas wedding is all this break is about anyway, we’ll manage.”
“Alright try to write me”
“I said I’d try”
“Ok”
“Ok”
With one last hug they got off the train and Regulus watched as the Evans embraced their children and then he saw as the Potters beamed watching James come towards them and how they gave Peter the same proud smile as they all walked away together,
Sirius appeared by his side and they both walked towards their Mother who stood waiting for them.
12 Grimmauld Place
“Let’s go” There was no hug, no proud smile, just a cold demanding voice matching with cold empty eyes. They entered their cold dark house and Regulus wandered up to his room, he was met with a box laying on his bed.As he opened it he saw a few pieces of armor and a small note. He poked his head into Sirius room, he was laying in his bed staring at the pictures of his friends permanently glued to his ceiling, he lay in his gryffindor quidditch sweater on his black bed sheets, his black hair splayed across his black pillow case, his red and yellow sweater drawing all the attention in the room to its shining color while Sirius stared at the pictures dancing.
“Did you get a box?” He asked still in the doorway
“Mhm”he said and then Regulus noticed his box was thrown into a corner of his room.
“What do you think it’s for”
“It’s on the note, dueling classes, we start tomorrow”
“Dueling?”
“Yeah”
“For what”
“Remember that dark wizard everyone was talking about”
“Yeah”
“For him”
