Chapter 4
Screaming and cheering rang through her ears. It’s the first game of the new year, Gryffindor Vs Slytherin. Everyone in all the houses dressed to impress wearing their house colors with pride. After the confrontation with Severus in the hall the boy haven’t stopped questioning Lily about why she felt the need to talk to him rather than them. Truthfully she didn’t know, maybe she knew how overprotective they will get over her and she didn’t want it. Or maybe it was just the simple fact that she knew Sev longer and felt comfortable being scared around him.
Either way her plan didn’t work. The boys annoyed him away and the boys won’t leave her alone unless they have to.
James flew past the stands giving Lily his trademark smirk. Rolling her eyes she looks down at the scroll of homework that’s across her lap, potions is always her best class. Lily felt like she could turn off her brain and focus on something that’s always the same (for the most part ).
“You know your not showing much house pride by doing homework”
Remus says playfully as he looks up from the book he was reading. Lily shoves his shoulder gently before taking the book from his hands, It was a copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy By Dougles Adams She smiles softly, she had given him that book thinking he would enjoy it. She looked at the clearly beloved book, there were folds in the corners where he had marked pages he liked. There was a bookmark that resembled a napkin tucked in the back of the book waiting to be used again.
“Neither is reading “
He laughed while taking the book from her sliding the napkin in between the pages he was reading before setting it to the side.
“I guess we’re both bad at showing pride of our house”
Remus says while turning his attention towards the game. We were up by ten, if our seeker could catch the snitch then it all would be over. Or we could just just run out the timer, either way Gryffindor once again prevails against Slytherin.
As she scanned the crowd she saw Severus staring at her and Remus. A permanent sneer across his face, he stares unblinking almost like he’s trying to scare Lily.
She can’t help but think of the sweet little boy who would be too shy to give her the flower he had picked just for her. The boy who held her hand as they stepped onto the train for the first time and refused to let go until they had seats. That little sweet boy was her friend, Sadly she didn’t know the person who was staring at her anymore.
“Lily, come on we won!”
Remus says pulling her up from the bench snapping out of her staring contest with Severus. The Gryffindors storm the quidditch field while professor McGonagall tries to calm the rowdy crowd Lily is picked up and spun around.
“We won! “
Lily hears James as he tightens his grip on her, like he’s going to lose her. She can’t help but melt into the embrace wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Good game as always Prongs “
Sirius says somewhere behind the two of them. James puts Lily down to “man hug” Sirius and Remus, while Marlen comes and hugs Lily.
“You're not still mad at me are you?”
She asks while playfully pouting. Lily smiles before putting her finger to her chin giving a fake thoughtful look
“I guess not but only because we won”
The girls laugh before diving into a conversation of their own after seeing the boys engrossed in a conversation about if Sirius was able to fly better than James or not.
Lily felt like there was a pair of eyes burning into the back of her head. She starts looking around before she hears the same voice of the hooded people again
“Filthy mudblood, your days are coming to an end “
Lily had hoped she just imagined hearing their voice. However after seeing the look on the face of the boys she suspected they all heard it that time.
“Who said that”
Sirius said, his eyes turning black. He took a protective step in front of Lily, no one was going to hurt his sister.
“Filthy blood traitor standing up for the mudblood. What will your family say Black”
The voice rang again coming from a different direction. Either this one person can move fast or there’s more than one.
“Show yourself right now”
James says pointing his wand down the long hallway, the air was still. No one made a sound, Lily was pretty sure nobody was breathing either.
“I said show yourself coward!”
James yells, and Lily jumps back a little. Once again there was no answer, not sound from around them. Lily lets out a breath before James marches closer to her with determination in his eyes.
“Who are saying these things to you Lily “
James says, crossing his arms and Remus stands behind him looking up and down the halls.
“I don’t know “
She admits putting her head down, She really didn’t want to get them involved.
“Well that’s not good Lily I why didn’t you tell us”
It was Remus’s turn to speak, Lily could hear the concern in his voice. She runs her fingers through her hair trying to come up with a good answer.
“Hey guys? What’re you doing out here?”
Peter asks, emerging from the dark hall. The boys turn to look at him, Lily takes the opportunity to slip away while the boys catch up.
