Chapter 64
Prompt: Deal
Draco allowed his tears to fall as he held tightly to his best friend’s hand.
“Had I known that all I had to do was die to get the great Draco Malfoy to cry, I would’ve tried this years ago,” whispered Theo. His voice was weak but his ever playful tone was not lost.
Draco gave an exasperated chuckle as his tired grey eyes raised to meet Theo’s. Even as sick as he was, his brown eyes shone bright.
“I wish it were me,” muttered Draco.
Theo’s playful gaze suddenly turned serious.
“You will not use my death for further self flagellation. Now, do you remember our deal?”
Another sigh escaped Draco, “Seriously Nott? That was years ago and it wasn’t even serious - just some drunken bullshit we-”
Theo’s laugh caused him to break into uncontrollable coughing. Once he regained control he fixed Draco with a stare.
“The unbreakable vow your asshole of a father forced on us will be lifted when I die,” he paused again to control his rapidly fading breath. “We both knew this would be the only way at least one of us would get to be with Granger.”
Draco dropped his head to Theo’s chest.
“But not like this,” he choked out, unable to hold back the flood of tears soaking through Theo’s shirt.
Theo lifted Draco’s face, his eyes shining with adoration. “I love you Draco, I have for as long as I remember. And I love her. The only solace I have is knowing that now, the two loves of my life will finally have the happiness we only dreamt about.”
Wiping his tears, Draco placed a gentle kiss to Theo’s lips and rested his forehead against his. “I will always love you,” he whispered reverently.
With a small smile, Theo squeezed Draco’s hand and closed his eyes. “I’m just going to close my eyes for a bit, I think you should go see our witch.”
Draco had no time to respond before the unmistakeable feeling of a broken vow tingled through his body.
