Chapter 40
Prompt: I love your hair
Wiping sweat from her brow, Hermione leaned over the cauldron sprinkling the pearl dust delicately inside. She sighed in relief as she watched the potion turn its trademark pearlescent sheen, a perfect Amortentia.
Looking up, she met the gazes of a table of Slytherins who were all snickering and mimicking her hair which had taken on its characteristic puff from the steam. Well, all Slytherins but one.
Draco Malfoy was staring but it was without malice, rather he seemed to be deep in some kind of thought. Hermione cocked her head to the side and maintained eye contact in an act of defiance, she was nobody’s entertainment. Draco’s eyes flickered in amusement. He crossed the room until he was directly in front of Hermione’s workstation. Leaning down until his nose was grazing her ear, he inhaled and muttered,
“You know Granger, I love your hair when it gets like this, I can even smell it across the room; is that Jasmine shampoo?”
Frozen to the spot, Hermione temporarily lost her ability to speak and just nodded back at him, eyes wide,trying to understand what brought this shift of behavior from her nemesis.
Chuckling, Draco continued, “I’d always known the first two scents in my Amortentia, parchment and honey, but the third has eluded me for years. Now I know. Jasmine.” Eyes sparkling, he leaned back slightly to gaze at Hermione before sauntering away to his table.
