Chapter 25
Prompt: Enough for you
Green and red filled the sky as the battle raged on. This was it, all of these years of fighting between the light and dark and it would end today. Hermione’s eyes darted across the field, desperately seeking a familiar set of eyes; her heart dropped when she finally found him.
Laying slumped beside a tree was Draco Malfoy. His hand clutched his chest as his other desperately cast spell after spell at the advancing death eaters. Hermione charged across the field, barely registering the spells she cast, she could only focus on getting to Draco.
“Granger…” Draco gritted out, wincing as the grasp on his chest tightened. Hermione hushed him with a finger to his lips as she cast a diagnostic over him while simultaneously holding her hand to his wounds to try and staunch the flow of blood.
Sounds faded as the diagnostic appeared; a dark curse, no known countercurse. Hermione’s chest tightened and her vision blurred as she sifted through her mind to think of anything to help. There was only one thing she could possibly think of, but it’d take a huge leap of faith.
Suddenly, Draco’s face was in front of hers, his hands cradling her face tenderly as he wiped the tears from her cheeks. “Look at me Granger. It’s ok. There’s nothing to be done for me, we both knew my chances of making it out of this war were slim. I never expected a happily ever after, I just always wanted to be enough for you.” His gaze was intense as the sincerity of his words hit Hermione. With a shaky breath, she leaned over to place a tender kiss to his lips.
“You are going to live Draco Malfoy, you hear me? If you truly want to be enough for me, I need it all. I need a life with you outside of this war, I need a home to share together, I need children, only that will be enough.”
She took a deep breath and peered into the eyes of the man she loved more than anything, the man she would do absolutely anything for, “Now, do you trust me?”
