Chapter 26

Prompt: I have a secret

Draco couldn’t believe his luck, serving detention alongside the Gryffindors was bad enough, but in the Forbidden Forest? It’s like McGonagall wanted to kill off the student population. The moment he was out, he was running to his father to correct this grave injustice.

As he trudged along, his thoughts wandered to his unfortunate companions. There was first of Longbottom, no surprise he couldn’t remember curfew to avoid this detention. Then there was the scarred boy wonder, probably out looking for the newest way to get his face in the papers. And finally there was Granger. Granger with her stupid bushy hair, her enormous amber eyes, and her brain that would just never turn off for one moment. Hell, he was in hell.

When the group split up leaving Draco with Fang and Longbottom, his initial happiness evaporated upon realizing Fang was an even bigger coward than Longbottom, a feat he had thought impossible.

Draco realized that talking to Fang encouraged the beast to keep walking and the more personal Draco became, the more relaxed the giant beast seemed to be. As he was mid-monologue, Fang stood frozen to the spot, unwilling to move one more step. With a resigned sigh, Draco went back to the dog and began stroking his ears, willing him to move again. Great, this is how the Malfoy line ended, next to an idiot and an oaf of a dog in the Forbidden Forest.

In a last ditch effort, Draco lowered his mouth until it was next to Fang’s ear. “I have a secret, you know. The other night, a soulmark of an otter appeared on my shoulder. So we have to keep walking because some day I am going to find who it belongs to and make her my wife.”
