Magic
Once Sirius had gone, Remus skipped back to his seat, grabbed another biscuit and flopped down into the chair, munching happily.
Minerva didn’t know what to do. What she had just witnessed was… heartbreaking.
Remus… Minerva had loved him like a son since his first year, and so had Poppy. Perhaps…
Albus wouldn’t allow it, but did he have to know?
She would talk to Poppy tonight.
In the meantime, however, she had a child to look after.
“What would you like to do, Remus?” She asked, as if nothing was wrong.
He paused, seeming to consider. “Can you do magic?”
“I can.” She says, inclining her head, “Would you like to see?”
“Yes!” He exclaims.
She wonders what she should do, but really, there’s one obvious answer. She transformed into her cat form, walking up to Remus and rubbing against his ankle.
He squealed in delight.
She took a few steps back, and transformed back into her human form.
“How’d you turn into a kitty!” Remus questions.
“It takes a lot of practice.” Minerva smiles.
“I wanna learn!”
Internally, Minerva is screaming. The old Remus would’ve told her that “one transformation is enough, thank you very much.” But now? It hurt. It hurt so bad, but she held it together, because, if the talk she had overheard between Sirius and Remus was any indication, Remus was in more pain than she was.
“When you’re older, Remus.” She says instead. “Is there anything else you want to do?”
“Do you have dinosaurs?” He responds, seemingly already onto the next thing
“No, but would you like to go on a walk with me? I can show you the Giant Squid, and the Whomping Willow.”
Remus’s eyes lit up at the very idea of a “whomping” willow, and it made Minerva hurt even more inside. The old Remus would have tried his best to stay as far away from that damned tree as possible.
“Yes please!” He shouts, jumping up from his seat.
“Alright, just let me get my coat.” She responds.
