Amortentia

“Who’re you?” Are the first words out of Remus’s mouth.

Sirius feels his heart skip a beat. He was just here. He was just with me and now he’s gone.

“I love you, Remus.” He says, before glancing at Professor McGonagall. “See you in class, Professor.”

He walks back into the fireplace, throwing floo powder into the flames, stepping in, and saying “Horace Slughorn!”. All while staring at Remus, sadness in his eyes.

When he arrived back at the potions room, he was bombarded with the smell of chocolate, clean sweaters, cigarette smoke, old parchment and other things that just screamed REMUS at him.

Bloody Amortentia-

It felt like a very strong punch to the gut, and he balled his hands up, trying hard not to let the tears threatening to fall pour out, because once they started, he knew he wouldn’t be able to stop them.

As soon as Sirius stepped out of the fireplace, blinking fiercely, trying to keep the tears at bay, he was bombarded by James and Lily.

“Was he alright?”

“What was it?”

“Why were you gone for so long?”

“After class.” He tells them, walking back to his seat numbly.

They nod in silent agreement.

“Ugh this fucking Amortentia.” Sirius complains.

“Oh, mate… I didn’t even think about that.” James says in sympathy. “You smell Moony, right?”

Sirius nods, tears beginning to fill his eyes again. “Chocolate, parchment and cigarettes…” He pressed his lips tightly together, but it was too late. Shit. The tears have begun to fall now. He’s choking over his own words. “And… his sweaters and sandalwood…”

James reaches over and gives Sirius a large hug. “I know mate. We all miss him.”

“And dirt and-” Sirius chokes, it’s too much. He can’t take it anymore. Lily raises her hand again.

“Professor Slughorn? Can we leave? We would like to head to class early so that Remus isn’t alone for too long.”

“What? Oh, of course Ms. Evans. Make sure you do all the reading.”

Lily nodded quickly, but then turned, helping James shepherd Sirius out of the classroom.
