Pretend

Vampires are good liars–they have to be, if they want to survive. Corrie knows how to wear the masks expected in every situation, knows how to bury her power deep where it can’t be turned against her.

But Ayanna throws everything out of whack. She makes Corrie slip with just a blush or a shy little smile, so that she makes rookie mistakes with mirrors and teeth. And Sire help her, but Corrie likes the feeling, likes the risk of being seen.

(Twilight is still a hideous embarrassment to all vampirekind, but she understands where Edward was coming from now).
