Chapter 1

Regulus almost tripped as he walked up the stairs to the astronomy tower. He always loved seeing the stars. He knew most of them by heart. He could point Sirius’ star out to anyone.

Regulus steadied himself on the wall. He felt weak. So weak. He felt blood running down his arms, more so his left arm than anything. He had to stop moving for a second as pain shot through his forearm.

Regulus did not regret the blood rolling down his arms. They came from a much bigger regret.

He began walking towards the balcony once more. He could feel the uneasiness in his steps. He had to admit he liked not knowing if he would still be standing after the next step.

He eventually made it to the railing, and he all but fell to the ground in front of it. He silently gasped as another spark of pain shot through his arm. He rolled of his now red sleeves to look at what he had done. What he didn’t regret.

He looked at the deep red lines trying to cover the black against his pale skin. The other arm was better, having more controlled marks. His right arm was most definitely still bleeding, but there were less cuts on that side.

He actually gasped as pain shot through his left arm once again. He didn’t know that slicing through such dark magic would have such an impact of him, but he can’t bring himself to regret it. He still doesn’t regret it as it continues to feel like someone’s digging their fingers into his forearm.

He laid back, and he moved so that his calves and down were hanging under the railings. He ignored the jerks through his body every time the ink would attack his skin. He tried to relax. He slowly looked up towards the stars.

It was slowly getting increasingly difficult to stay focused on anything. He was able to focus on a certain star. A certain star that had the same name of his brother. He felt no regret as blood began pooling on the wood underneath him. He felt no regret as his hold on reality slowly loosened.

He knew what he did. He felt no regrets bigger than the darkness on his forearm. His final thoughts as reality slipped through his fingers was that he wished Sirius knew that he didn’t have a choice. He hadn’t had one then, but he made one now. He hoped that was enough for Sirius. He hoped he wasn’t too upset when he found out.

Regulus let go of the failing hole on reality, and he relaxed. He wasn’t able to process the feet coming up the stairs. He was too far gone. He didn’t process the screaming, and more running.
