A tale old as time, young love don't last for life
“I can’t do this anymore Regulus.” James had said, breaking the screaming pattern.
“What?” Regulus had said, barely more than a whisper, he was scared.
“This” James said while pointing at the space between them “It’s killing me and I- I’m sorry but I can’t stay, I tried, I really tried.”
Regulis took his time to process what James was saying, this was it. It was the end, He had always known that what they had wouldn’t last forever and that they were lucky to have the time they had but it still hurt like shit.
“So this is it?” Regulus asked, he had to be sure.
“Yeah, this is it.”
Regulus started nodding slowly, took a deep shaky breath, and put his mask back on. Taking any sign of feelings off his face, muttered a low “okay” that James didn’t catch, and got up.
“Goodbye James” and with that he left the room.
It wasn’t the type of goodbye James deserved, he deserved so much more, but he was afraid that he would have started begging him to stay and he didn’t want his James to die, to lose more of the spark that had made Regulus love him so much.
