Chapter 3
It's the first day of classes and so far so good, Chica stopped by the twins room to drop off their week schedule and instructions on how to find the classrooms they need.
"We've got classes together the entire week," Sun looks at their schedule, "That's good right?"
"They probably did it on purpose" Moon brushes their just over shoulder length hair.
"I know and I'm grateful they did" Sun say, "We have charms first, then potions, flying and transfiguration, I'm so excited!"
"I just hope the other students won't be assholes, teachers too."
"Language," Sun looks up to Moon, "I'm sure they won't be! Remember what Dumbledore said?"
Moon puts the hairbrush down and grabs a hair tie, "Still, can't be to sure."
"You worry too much" Sun says, "Think positive! We'll be together all day, We can finally attend a real school, we've made new friends! It's gonna be great!"
Moon smiles to himself and shakes his head, he doesn't understand how Sun can be so positive all the time but to him it's not a bad thing, not by a long shot.
They sort themselves out and leave for the many long hallways of the castle, Sun had memorised the way to the Charms classroom and they made their way in.
"Well I say, you two are here early" Flitwick stands in front of a bookshelf with a pile of books, which are taller then him, next to the shelf, "Must be eager to learn."
"I know I am!" Sun cheers, bouncing of their feet, "We've been waiting for this opportunity for years!"
"I'm glad to hear it" Flitwick waves his wand and one of the piles of books float up and sort themselves in the shelf, "You can take a seat and do whatever until class starts if you'd like, I've still got quite a bit of tidying up to do."
"Could we help?" Sun asks.
"I don't see why not" Flitwick says, "there's a few feathers in that box other there that need separating, some of them decided to tangle themselves up in one another."
"Got it!" Sun says, he and Moon go over to the box Flitwick had pointed out and pull it to get a better look inside, Suns and Moon pull a face at the sight, not only were the feathers tangled up but all mixed in with different colours.
"You think he'd mind if we sorted the colours too?" Moon says.
"I'm sure it'll be fine" Sun says, reaching into the box.
They came up with a sorting system, white feathers will go to the right of the box, greys will go to the left, and browns will go in between the twins.
Moon looks around and spots two empty boxes, they get up and pull the boxes over for them to use, now putting the feathers in their own boxes instead of piles on the ground, it'll help make sure they don't lose any of them in the process as well.
Sun had grabbed some paper and a pencil to label which coloured feathers were in which box, they both had spotted Flitwick giving them glances every now and then and he hasn't told them to stop, so they didn't.
Flitwick finishes with the books and checks on Sun and Moon, it looks like they're just about done with the feathers, he walks over to them to let them know class will start soon.
"Thank you for your help you two, class will begin in a few minutes and students will be arriving soon, could you please take your seats while I add 5 points to Hufflepuff?" Flitwick says.
"Of course we will, thank you Professor!" Sun and Moon stand up and walk back to the row of seats.
Sun had grabbed spare pencils and paper to doodle on, Moon watches Sun draw and adds little faces and doodles in the corner of the page to not mess with Suns drawing.
More and more first years from all houses flood in the classroom and take their seats, Flitwick greets them as they enter, once the time was right, class begins.
"For your first Charms lesson, we are learning levitation, the ability to make objects fly," Flitwick stands on his pedestal, "Everyone grab your wands, and say the words, Wingardium Leviosa to these feathers," Flitwick waves his wand and one feather lands on the shared desks of all the students, "Have a go and ask questions if you need them."
The whole class fills with people saying the spell and waving their wands at the feathers, someone next to Sun gets annoyed that hers isn't working and starts flinging her wand up and down forcefully.
"Woah woah careful friend," Sun says to the girl, "you might accidentally throw your wand."
The girl stops and rests her hands on the desk with a sigh, "it's not working, I'm saying the words and doing the right movement but it's not doing anything."
Sun hums, "Maybe try pronouncing the words differently? Like exaggerate one letter to be a bit longer maybe? That's what I've been doing at least, it might help."
"Thanks, I'll give it a try" the girl smiles.
Sun smiles back and turns to Moon when they start patting Suns arm rapidly.
"Sun Sun Sun look" Moon says.
Sun turns and sees Moons feather hovering over the desk, Sun beams and shakes Moons free arm slightly.
"Move it higher move it higher!"
Moon points his wand up and the feather follows, Flitwick sees and cheers.
"Oh well done Moondrop!" Flitwick cheers.
Sun wraps his arms around Moon and shakes them lightly, watching the feather in the air, Moon lowers it back down to the desk.
"How did you do it?" Sun asks, letting Moon go.
"I was doing the same thing as you," Moon says, "the letter to exaggerate is the 'O' in Leviosa."
Sun nods and does just that, their feather rising into the air too with another cheer from Flitwick.
"How did?" The girl asks.
"The letter is 'O'" Sun says.
The girl smiles and does the same, yet again, another cheer, she lowers the feather back down.
"Wow! Thank you!" She says, "My names Mangle, Ravenclaw."
"I'm Sundrop, Hufflepuff."
The two of them fall into conversation about what spells they might and hope to learn in the future, Moon takes a piece of paper and writes somethings down.
"+-Made a new friend?-+"
"+~You bet I have!~+"
Moon smiles to himself and continues writing.
Class finishes and Sun and Moon go to their next lesson, potions, they make their way down to the classroom and end up passing The Glamrocks in the hall, Sun gives them a huge wave and they wave back.
They get to the classroom and sit at one of the tables, Sun had brought the pencils and paper from Charms and starts doodling again.
"Excuse me Sundrop - you are listening aren't you?" Snape says in a harsh tone that Moon doesn't like at all.
Sun nods with a hum, looking up from their drawing, "Mhm! I am Professor."
"If you truly were paying attention then tell me, what does the Polyjuice potion do once consumed?" Snape asks.
"It turns the consumer into the person which hair was mixed into the potion for a short amount of time!" Sun says confidently.
Snape only grunts and continues with the lesson, Moons not happy with the Professors tone at all.
"+-What crawled up his ass and died?-+"
Sun gives Moon a side look, "~Language, my god, maybe he's just tired.~+"
"+-I'm tired of his attitude.-+"
"+~It's fine Moony, probably just had a bad day and isn't very good at not showing it.~+"
Potions class seemed to take forever to finish but it does eventually, the twins go to the main hall for lunch and meet with The Glamrocks again, sitting at the Slytherin table with the others.
"You good Moon?" Roxy asks, "You seem irritated."
Moon jerks his head to the teachers table, "What's with grumpy black hair?"
"Pfft, you mean Snape?" Monty snickers, "He's just like that, always has been."
"Hm, I don't like it..."
"You're not alone" Monty says.
"Oh right," Freddy says, "We wanted to ask if you two wanted to come to our place on Friday after school, we usually practice our band songs and make sure everything still works, my little brother helps out too."
"You have a little brother?" Sun says, "How old is he?"
"He is 8 years old, I'm sure he'd like to meet you both, Marionette would like you two."
"What's his name?" Sun asks, "and whos Marionette?"
"His name is Gregory, and Marionette is a family friend who lives with us, they moved in when my parents pasted."
"Oh..." Sun and Moon were not expecting that, "I'm sorry."
"It's quite alright," Freddy says, "It's all in the past and you can't change that, but you can move on."
Sun and Moon grab hands under the table, Freddy's right but... it's hard to let go of what happened.
Once lunch was over, Sun and Moon headed for their third class that day, Flying, which they both agreed was their favourite so far, being in the air on a broom was the most free they've felt in their lives, it helps that they picked it up easily too.
The rest of the week went honestly well, they did well on all their classes and even got more points for Hufflepuff.
It was now Friday and Sun and Moon had finished their final lesson for the day, they went back to their room and changed into more comfortable clothes, then meet up with The Glamrocks.
"Before we go, there's someone you should meet" Freddy says, "they're nice I promise."
The twins follow the 5th years to the outside of the castle, following a small path to a little but in front on the Forbidden Forest.
Freddy knocks a few times and opens it once he gets the ok, inside was warm and cozy, and with a large bearded man inside.
"Oh 'ello there" the man says.
"Hey Hagrid" Freddy says, Monty and Roxy push past Freddy and into the hut, sitting at the table, Chica walks in without barging through and gives Hagrid a 'hello' before joining the pushers.
Freddy turns to the twins and motions them to come in, walking in himself, they follow slowly behind.
Hagrid closes the door behind them, "You two mus' be Sun 'n Moon am I right?" He asks.
Sun nods slowly, looking up at Hagrid, Moon wraps an arm around Sun with the other in his hand, looking up at the tall man too.
Hagrid seems to catch on that they're probably scared of his height, so he sits in one of the chairs at the table with the others to seem shorter.
"This better for ya?" He asks.
Moon slowly lets his arm relax and let's go of Sun, hand still in hand however.
"I 'eard from these lot that you've never seen a dog before," Hagrid says, then turns and whistles to something, small footsteps come closer and a dog comes up to Hagrid, the man ruffling the dogs head, making its ears flop around.
"This is Fang, 'e's a dog."
Sun moves forward slightly but gets pulled back by Moon.
"+-What if it bites?-+"
Sun turns to face Moon, "+~He doesn't look... well he does, but The Glamrocks trust him, why can't we?~+"
From the outside, it looks like the twins are just making faces at each other, Hagrid leans in and whispers, "Do they 'ave that twin telepathy?"
Freddy shakes his head with a small chuckle, "No, they're talking through transmission rings, Dumbledore gave it to them."
"It basically is twin telepathy if you think about it" Monty says.
Chica gets down from the table and calls Fang over, the dog trotting over and enjoying the attention he's getting.
"He won't hurt you" Chica says, "he's only a baby, aren't you a big baby Fang?" Chica grabs Fangs face and rubs it, the dogs tail thumping happily against the wooden floor.
"+~See? It's ok Moony~+" Sun moves and gently lead's Moon over to Chica and Fang on the ground.
Sun holds his hand out and Fang sniff it, Sun then gives Fang a few pets and the dog rolls over on his back, tailing swaying side to side still.
Sun laughs happily and rubs Fangs belly with both hands, "He is a big baby!"
After a while, they're all outside Hagrids Hut with Sun and Fang running around and rolling in the grass.
"Decided you're not a fan of dogs already?" Monty says to Moon.
"If all dogs are like this, then yeah" Moon says.
Monty chuckles, "Don't blame ya, not a fan of 'em myself, especially not a fan of Roxy."
"Fuck off Crocs!" Roxy yells, from inside the hut.
Moon smiles and tries to quickly hide it, failing miserably.
"Aw you can smile?" Monty coos mockingly.
"Fuck off."
"Nah nah too late to hide it."
Moon flicks Montys sunglasses down from his head and to his face, then turns away and leans back on Hagrids hut, arms crossed.
Freddy, Chica, Roxy and Hagrid walk out of the hut, "We should be going, it's going to get dark soon and Gregory will want to help with decorations before he goes to bed."
Moon gets off of the hut and walks to Sun and Fang on the ground, "Sunshine! We're goin'!"
Sun rolls over to his stomach, looking up, "Already? Aw man, ok then," he sits on his knees and hugs Fang, "I'll see you soon new friend!"
Roxy wipes the single tear that falls from her eye, "Why are their names so adorable?"
"I know," Chica says, "Eclipse, Moony and now Sunshine? They're so cute."
"Jesus you two are weird," Monty shakes his head until he hears Freddy holding back sobs, "You too?!"
"I can't help it" Freddy says.
"C'mon Fang! Here boy!" Hagrid yells, Fang running over and into the hut, planting himself on his bed.
Sun and Moon come back and Freddy holds out his hands, ready to disapparate.
"Were you crying?" Sun tilts their head.
"No no, well yes, but it wasn't anything bad I promise" Freddy says.
The twins grab Freddy's hand, they all say a quick goodbye to Hagrid with Sun adding a goodbye to Fang before they disapparate and appear in a very bright building.
Sun and Moon squint their eyes to adjust to the sudden harsh light before looking around at their new surroundings.
"This place is so big!" Sun spins around to get a better look.
"And so bright" Moon uses his hands for shade over his eyes.
"Did you forget to turn the lights off?" Freddy turns to Chica.
"I turned them off, I know I did" Chica says.
"Sorry Freddy!" A little kid sits up on the stage in front of them, "I turned them on to make sure they still worked."
"And they sure do!" Freddy says, "Could you turn them off for a moment? We have guests!"
"Ok!" The kid stands up and runs to the back of the stage, disappearing behind the curtains then the lights dim off.
"Where's Mari?" Freddy runs to and up the stage, the kid running and jumping up, Freddy catches the kid.
"They're with DJ, I dunno where they are or what they're doing though."
Freddy carries the kid down and off the stage, setting him down on the ground.
"Oh my gosh! Hi! Are you Gregory?" Sun give a large wave and bounces on their heels.
Gregory turns and looks up to Sun with a nod, "I am, who're you?" he tilts his head.
"These two are new first years at Hogwarts, Sundrop and Moondrop" Freddy says.
"Well it's easy to tell who is who" Gregory says.
"Gregs" Freddy elbows Gregory lightly, "I'm sorry if he offended you or anything."
"Oh no it's fine!" Sun says, he runs up and picks Gregory up under his arms, "You're so little!"
"Well you're not exactly that tall either" Gregory says, not in a harsh way.
Sun smiles and puts him down.
"I think you should start getting ready for bed, Superstar" Freddy says.
"Aw come on! Seriously?" Gregory groan, "But I want to help with the band step up!"
"You've checked the lights already" Freddy says, "And I'm guessing you've done more then that?"
Gregory pouts, "The lights work, the rising stage floor works and the curtains work."
"That's what I thought," Freddy smiles and takes Gregory hand, "let's get you in your pyjamas shall we?"
Freddy looks up to the others, "I'll be back in a few minutes, could you check the speakers?"
"Will do!" Chica says.
Freddy and Gregory leave the stage room and up a spiral staircase.
The 5th years leave to up the stage stairs, motioning the twins to follow, they go behind stage and see 4 desks with mirrors in front of them on the walls, each with their own coloured lights to show who's is who's.
Freddy's was Orange, Chicas was Pink, Roxys was Purple and Montys was Green, there was even a smaller one next to Freddys that was a light blue.
"Whos desk is this?" Moon walks over to the light blue one.
"That's Gregory's," Roxy says, "when we preform he like to sit back here and watch through the screen up there" Roxy points to a black screen up on the wall.
A loud high pitch noise echos out the speakers, everyone jumps and covers their ears painfully.
"Fucking hell Monty! A warning next time?!" Roxy yells.
The noise stops and all eyes turn to Monty, "My bad" he shrugs, his bass in hand, the high pitch noise happened when he didn't plug the bass in all the way.
Monty then played the bass quietly and slowly, eventually getting louder and faster into a song.
Sun watched in amazement while the others knew he was just trying to show off, he ends his little show on a low note and Sun gives him an applause.
"That was great!" Sun cheers.
"Why thank you little man" Monty looks over his sunglasses and winks, "just what I do best."
"Next to being a bitch" Roxy and Chica say in sync.
Freddy and Gregory had returned shortly after, Gregory had convinced Freddy to let him stay up a little longer, so Freddy agreed for Gregory to sit and colour.
Sun and Moon had joined Gregory on the floor backstage, joining in on the colouring, Gregory didn't mind the company, they were all laying on their stomach with a box of crayons and paper with them, Sun kicking his legs in the air.
Gregory finished his drawing and turned it around for the twins to see, it was of The Glamrocks on stage with their instruments, colourful lines sparking off of them.
"That's really good Gregory!" Sun says, legs still in the air.
"Good work Picasso" Moon ruffles Gregory's hair.
"Get off" Gregory shakes his head and Moon takes his hand back, "It's not that great, they're practically stick figures."
"Stick figures or not, we think it's amazing" Sun smiles.
Gregory's face heats up in embarrassment, he turns his head away slightly, "thanks I guess."
Freddy walks over to their little circle, "Come on now Gregs, it's getting late now."
"Aw man" Gregory face plants the paper in front of him, "fine..."
He gets up and says a quick goodnight to Sun and Moon, them both saying their own goodnight as they leave.
"He's a nice kid" Sun says.
"Did you see the bags under his eyes?" Moon says, "they couldn't have been just from today."
"I did notice," Sun says, "Maybe he has trouble sleeping?"
"Maybe" Moon says.
Freddy returns and explains to the twins that there's a spare room upstairs for them, they follow Freddy to the room and then he leaves.
It's getting pretty late now, around 2:30am, Sun has fallen asleep hours ago while Moon was sitting in their bed, just looking up at the ceiling.
But ceiling staring can start to get boring after a while so he decides to get up and go for a walk, maybe that'll help them feel tired enough to sleep.
He gets up and quietly sneaks out of the room, shutting the door quietly behind them and leaving the lights on, Sun can't sleep in the dark and Moon doesn't mind if it helps Sun.
They walk through the hallway and pass multiple room, all assuming to be bedrooms, they pass one and hear small sobs from the inside.
Moon stops and peeks their head through the small gap in the open door, Gregory was sitting on the bed with his face buried in his knees, shoulders shaking with small cries and sniff.
Moon steps in quietly and knocks on the door, Gregory shoots his head up with tears falling like rivers down his face.
"Something wrong kid?" Moon asks slowly.
Gregory sniffs and wipes an eye with his wrist, shaking his head.
"Can I come over there?"
Gregory looks up a little in confusion, but nods with a sniff.
Moon walks over slowly to not startle the boy and sits at the end of his bed, "A nightmare?"
Gregory wraps his arms around his legs with another nod.
Moon gives him a worried look, "You know sign language by chance?"
Gregory looks up more and nods.
'You wanna talk about it?' Moon signs.
Gregory looks away but signs back, 'It was only a repeating nightmare, I'm fine.'
'You don't look fine' Moon signs.
Gregorys tears had stopped and he pouts.
'Would a lullaby help?' Moon signs.
'I'm too old for a lullaby.'
'You're only too old if they don't help you sleep, it doesn't hurt to try?'
Gregory thinks about it for a moment but nods, Moon holds their arms out and Gregory crawls over, laying his head on Moons chest in a hug.
"...only a small one..." Gregory says quietly.
Moon chuckles, "Only a little one" they confirm.
Moon starts to hum the beginning of the lullaby, Gregory shivers but relaxes almost instantly.
"Days~ seem sometimes as if they'll never end~ Sun digs it's heels~ to taunt~ you... but after sunlight days~ one thing stays same~ Rises the moon~"
Gregory closes his eyes and sets out a deep breath.
Freddy walks past the rooms and hears singing from Gregory's room, he pokes his eye in and feels his heart want to explode.
"Days~ fade into a watercolour blur...
Memories swim and haunt you~
But look into the lake, shimmering like smoke... Rises the moon~"
Gregory's body turns limp, soft breaths coming from the boy, Moon gently moves Gregory to lay down in his bed, still singing.
They rest Gregory's head on the pillow and cover him with the blanket, "Goodnight, kid."
Freddy moves to hide behind the door as Moon leaves and goes back to their room, Freddy peeks his head in Gregory's room again and sees the gentle smile on his little brothers face.
Freddy smiles himself and closes the door with a small click, then makes his way back to his room.
Sun was right, Moons singing is lovely, and Suns talent was amazing too...
Maybe he should ask if they'd both want to join the band?
"Minister! Minister we have a problem!"
The Minister on Magic looks up from the paper on his desk, "What is it?"
"It's Azkaban Prison! Vanny has escaped!"
