Chapter 1
Sun and Moons parents weren't the best... they were both a Witch and Wizard, but not nice at all.
If either of them did the slightest thing wrong or out of order, in their parents words, they'd be punished by either a harsh beating, slap, punch, chained, or thrown into a closet over night, sometimes longer.
So when their 11th birthday came, they were so happy, it meant they could leave and go to Hogwarts!
But they never got their letters...
"When do you think we'll get our letters?" Sun bounced as he sat on his bed, "I bet it'll be soon, we are 11 now!"
Moon falls back on his bed, "Unless they DID arrive and Mom and Dad hid or burnt them..."
"I'm sure they didn't! I mean... they want to get rid of us as much as we want to leave..." Sun rubs a thumb over his over hand.
"Well, they are sure taking their time to get here..." Moon says.
"I'm sure they will!" Sun jumps off of his bed and sits at the end of Moons, "Just think, once we get to Hogwarts, we'll finally be away from this place!"
"For a year" Moon says.
"Exactly! And maybe we could learn some things that could help keep us away, or maybe even just... not return? It's not like Mom and Dad would care anyway..."
Moon sigh, "I guess you're right..." then they sit up, "then where the hell are our let- OW!"
The window next to Moon slides open and an Owl pecks Moons head, they look to the creature and see two envelopes in its beak.
Sun reaches over and pets the Owls head, taking the envelopes from its beak as the Owl nuzzles into the touch, Sun retreats their hand and the Owl doesn't fly away, instead, looking down at the envelopes and then up to the Twins, signalling them to open them.
Sun gives the one with Moons name to him, they both open the envelopes excitedly and scan over what the letters said inside.
The few words they both focused on were...
You've been excepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!
They both look up from the letter with huge smiles on their faces, leaping to each other for a big hug.
"We can leave..." Sun says in relief.
"And never come back?.." Moon says.
Sun nods into Moons shoulder, "And never come back."
They break the hug and Sun realises something, "But how will we get there?"
The Owl hoots and gains the twins attention, the Owl somehow had another note in its beak, Sun takes it and reads out loud what it says.
"To get to Hogwarts, you'd need to take the train from Platform 9 3/4, which leaves at 11am sharp, the Owl, who's name is FloorBot, will guide you to your destination tomorrow morning, be sure to pack all you need before leaving."
"FloorBot? That's a strange name" Moon says, earning another peak on the head from FloorBot, "Ow! Stop it."
"Don't be mean to our new friend" Sun says, standing up and reaching for his suitcase underneath his bed, pulling it out by the handle, "You should get yours too, we have to leave tomorrow."
"Yeah yeah" Moon gets off of their bed and reaches for their own suitcase under his own bed, Sun by now has their shared wardrobe open and packing clothes he thinks he would need.
They get everything packed up and stand their suitcases at their bedroom door, Sun let FloorBot in and shut the window, letting the Owl fly around and do what it wants.
They get into their separate beds but don't fall asleep yet.
"Moony?"
"Hm?"
"How do we leave without Mom and Dad knowing? I don't really want them to know we're going..."
"We've got a window don't we? I could climb down and help you down after."
Sun nods slowly as their eyes start to droop, "Ok... we should leave to be there early... c'nt stand bein' here much lon'er..."
Moon smiles, "Ok Sunshine, get some sleep."
"You too... Night night..."
"Nighty night..."
Just as they said, 6am rolled up and the twins were up and ready to leave, they knew their parents would still be asleep at this time so it was perfect!
Moon opened the window and slowly climbed down the wall, slipping once or twice before letting go and landing on the ground with bent knees.
Moon gives Sun the signal to start sending the suitcases down, slowly holding them one by one out the window for Moon to grab and put a side for the next, once both were down, it was Suns turn.
"Just jump" Moon says, "I'll catch you."
"From up here? Are you sure?" Sun climbs out and holds onto the window frame.
"I'm sure."
Sun swallows a lump in his throat, before letting go and jumping back, landing safely in Moons arms, they put Sun down and grab their suitcases, following FloorBot as they fly through the air.
They get to the train station and start looking for platforms 9 and 10, they find it eventually and follow FloorBot into the wall, taking them to platform 9 3/4.
"This place is huge!" Sun says excitedly, bouncing as they walk.
No one was at the platform, not even the train, but it makes sense since they got there hours early.
They find a place to sit on the floor, against a wall behind them, they wheel the suitcases over and sit next to them, talking about nothing important.
"You're here early."
Sun and Moon turn to the new voice, a light brown haired teen was walking towards them with a cart of things, including an empty cage.
"And not with a lot of stuff, did you not go to Diagon Alley?"
Sun and Moon tilt their heads, "Go to where now?" Moon asks.
FloorBot flies to the teen and lands on his shoulder, bumping his head on theirs, "They must be why I got given letters to deliver..." the teen bumps his head on the owls and FloorBot flies back inside his cage.
"FloorBot and I were asked to deliver your Hogwarts letters, for some reason every time the teachers sent you two them you never got 'em."
"FloorBots your owl?" Sun asks, the teen nods.
"And you two should really have something like that too" the teen walks closer and sits on the ground with the teens, "I'm Freddy Fazbear, 5th year."
Sun beams, "Hi new friend Freddy! I'm Sundrop! And this is my twin brother Moondrop, I guess we're 1st years."
"I figured as much, you both need more stuff other then suitcases."
"Like what?" Moon asks in a harsh tone.
Freddy holds out a hand, "I'll take you to Diagon Alley to buy your things, we have a few hours to kill anyways."
"But we don't have any money!" Sun says.
"Who said you were paying?"
Sun and Moon glance at each other for a moment before taking Freddys hand, within seconds they were transported from the platform to a completely new place, filled with people and stores.
"Welcome to Diagon Alley!"
Freddy helped the twins buy and gather the things they will need for school, even helping our with their wands, turns out, both of their wands are brothers to each other which Freddy found adorable.
They both adopted an Owl and called it Eclipse, they agreed that they didn't need two of them for one each, so agreed on one.
Freddy checked the time, 5 minutes until the train arrived, has it really been that long? Freddy calls the twins over with their cart of school supplies and appear back on the platform.
"How can you do that?!" Sun yells excitedly, gaining multiple stares and looks from others, this place really packed up from last time, "It's incredible!"
"It's called disapparation, I'm surprised neither of you threw up if it was your first time, that tends to happen a lot on others first tries."
"You mean what happened to you the first time?"
A new voice and three pairs of footsteps come their way, three more teens, one male and two female, the male had green and red hair which reminded the twins of Christmas colours, the tallest female had long grey hair with green at the front, and the final had white hair with pink strips and a pink bow.
"You threw up too, Monty" Freddy says.
The white haired girl looked down to the twins, "Aw! You two are so little! Are you first years?"
Sun nods his head with far to much excitement, "Yep Yep! We're so excited! Right Moony?" Sun turns to Moon who only gives a shrug to the ground, Sun pouts and playfully smacks their arm, turning back to the teens, "Don't mind him, he's not good with new people!"
"That's completely understandable" Freddy says.
"And we did just show up out of nowhere" the grey haired girl says.
The train pulls up behind the group and slows to a stop, people were hurrying to get inside, including Sun who grabs Moons wrist, shouting a thank you and goodbye while pulling Moon onto the train with them and finding an empty room for them to sit in.
"Jesus Sun! A warning maybe?" Moon sits down, rubbing their wrist.
"Sorry, but I'm just so excited!" Sun sits opposite Moon, literally bouncing up and down.
"I can see that" Moon wants to be mad at Sun for dragging him, but he can't help the smile that shows at Suns excitement.
Sun pats his legs excitedly, "What house do you think we'll be in?"
"Mom was a Slytherin and Dad was a Ravenclaw, maybe we'll be one of them," Moon says, "But Sun... you know we might not be in the same house, right?"
Sun stops bouncing and patting their legs, wringing his hands together, "I know... but I keep my hopes up for us being together."
"I promise you Sun, even if we aren't in the same house, I'll never leave you ok?" Moon reaches over and rubs circles on Sun hand.
Sun leans in and rests his forehead against Moons, "You promise?"
"On my life."
The rest of the train ride was the twins talking about what they might learn and what classes they would get.
Other students of different years were running up and down the train, laughing and calling out to one another, a lady with a trolley came alone and Sun bought a chocolate frog, Freddy had given them both some Golden Gallons for the ride there.
But like all the frogs, it jumped away and down the hallway before either could react, Sun doesn't mind though and picks up the card inside.
"Minerva McGonagall" Sun reads out the name underneath the image of an old lady with a witches hat, showing it to Moon, "You think she's a teacher?"
"Maybe" Moon says, he looks away from the image for ONE second, and now she's gone? "Uh, Sun" Moon points to the card, "Shes gone."
"What?" Sun flips the card back to face him and just like Moon said, she was gone, Sun couldn't help but beam, "This. Is. So. Cool! It's like they have a mind of their own!"
"That's because they do."
Freddy and his friends were behind him as he stood in the doorway, "Could we join you?"
"Of course you can!" Sun pats the seat next to him and they all pile inside, Sun looks up to Freddy who is sitting next to them and Roxy, "Hey Hey! What houses are you all in?"
"Chica and I are Hufflepuffs" Freddy says.
"While Monty and I are Slytherins" Roxy says.
"Oh wow! I'm so excited to find out what we are!" Sun pats their legs.
While everyone else falls into conversation, Moon blocks it all out, resting his head on the window and watching the trees, bushes and clouds move fast as the train moves.
"You good, little man?" Monty gently nudged Moon, but no matter how hard or gently he nudged them, Moon would of grabbed his wrist either way.
The conversation stops as everyone is startled by the sudden quick movement, focused on the two, Moon didn't even realise what they had done it was so fast, they let go and try to move away from Monty the best they can, only pushing himself against the train.
Sun noticed how Moon didn't move his head from the window, but saw his eyes were aimed at the action, the horror in his little brothers eyes makes his heart sink.
"H-He doesn't like to be touched" Sun tried to hide his stutter, but clearly it failed miserably.
They all sat in an uncomfortable silence for what felt like decades, but thankfully, Chica came to the rescue.
"So! Professor McGonagall aye?"
Freddy, Chica, Roxy and Monty had to explain all they knew about the moving pictures and loads more about different things, even if it's Sun and Moons first year at Hogwarts, they really didn't know a lot about it, well, Sun didn't, Moon never said a word while the 5th years were there, but because Sun didn't know, they assumed Moon didn't know either.
Finally, at last, the train pulls up and comes to a stop, Sun and Moon had to quickly change into their robes before following the 5th years out and off the train, they split off and Sun and Moon followed the crowd of first years, the 5th years went to speak to a really tall and beefy bearded man.
They were too far away to hear what they were saying, but the tall man looked upset in a way, what are they talking about?
They all get lead by an adult to a dock with boats floating on the water below, they all get told to climb in and they all set a corse to the huge castle they see in the distance.
Finally, they arrive at the castle and get out of the boats, following the crowd through the castle doors, down the hallways, and into a huge room with long tables and a starry sky ceiling, Moon like it, with floating candles, lighting what ever they could.
They walk down and pats the long tables, spotting Freddy and Chica on the way, Sun couldn't help but smile and wave back, they get to the end of their walk and one of the adults from another table in front of them, stands up and walks over.
It was McGonagall.
"I am pleased you all made it here unharmed and well," She starts to speak, "Before this school year can begin, all you first years must be set into your Hogwarts houses. Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin."
McGonagall pulls out a scroll and picks up a hat that was sitting on the single chair next to her, turning back to her scroll and reading out names.
"Kyra Burten."
A girl with long light brown hair, steps up and sits on the chair, McGonagall places the hat on her head and it suddenly comes alive, Freddy had told the twins about the sorting hat on the train incase it scared them.
"Aah!" The hat let's out, "Let's see here... Mhm... mmhm... Ah yes, bravery, we love to see that... aha... ah yes! I know! Gryffindor!" The hat yells.
Everyone on the Gryffindor table start to cheer and welcome their new addition, McGonagall reads out the next name.
"William Turner."
Turner was set to Ravenclaw, it only took a few more names until it finally got to one of the twins.
"Sundrop."
Sun tries to steady themselves and not to run up the steps, sitting in the same place as all the other kids had, the hat set on his head.
It was silent for a while, beginning to make Sun nerves, "I see..." it finally speaks, "a lot of kindness, caring and positivity I'm seeing... one of which I'm surprised at..."
Sun twiddles his thumbs, this is taking longer then the other ones...
"A lot of care and worry for your brother I'm seeing... as well as to other people including strangers, you might need to work on that incase you meet someone that can't be trusted."
Sun was here to be put into their house, not a life lesson from a talking hat.
"Alrighty then, I know the perfect place for you... Hufflepuff!"
The Hufflepuff table cheers, Sun waits for the hat to be removed before only taking a few steps to the side, next to McGonagall, instead of taking a seat at the table.
"Sundrop, you must take your seat now" McGonagall says.
"Not until Moons done his, then I will!" Sun says, it's clear to tell he isn't going anywhere.
"But you must-"
"It's no use Minerva," the sorting hat says, "coming from the thing that pretty much read their mind, they aren't going anywhere until it's done."
McGonagall doesn't even try to argue, settling on a sigh before reading out Moons name.
"Moondrop."
Moon walks up and takes a seat, the hat set on his head, again, the hat was quiet to start with, "Well now... not much different from your brother but... definitely some changes... not as much kindness or caring for strangers, or really people in general..."
"Just get to the point!" Moon growls under their breath.
The sorting hat doesn't say anything as a response to that, "I'm seeing... overflowing amount of protectiveness for Sundrop... considering your shared past I'm not all too surprised."
Moon hides their flinch but grips onto the seat of the chair hard, Sun looked worried.
"Alright alright, now just know, I'm not doing this because you're related, it's because you belong there..." the hat says.
"Hufflepuff!" It cries.
The Hufflepuff table roars with cheer once again, Moon gets off of the chair and joins Sun with running, well Sun running, down the steps and to the table, Freddy and Chica being there at the end for them.
Freddy greets them both with a huge smile and a hand in front of him, "Hi again strangers."
Sun slaps Freddys hand with their own for a high-five, they sit and watch the rest of the first years get seated in their new houses.
As they were watching Sun pats Moon to get his attention, "It's weird how Mom and Dad were Slytherin and Ravenclaw but were aren't" he whispers.
"Be grateful for it," Moom whispers back, "at least we aren't in the same houses as those assholes."
Sun gives Moon an angry pout for swearing.
"Sorry, but what other way is there for describing them? It's the truth."
"Moon..."
"We'll talk about it later..."
They may have been whispering the quietest as they could, but Freddy was next to Sun who was next to Moon, he had better hearing then normal so he could hear everything and can't help but worry and wonder.
Once everyone was seated, the head master, Dumbledore, greeted the new students and flicked his wand, a feast appeared on all tables and everyone dug in.
After all the food, the head master sent them all of on their way, saying how lessons will start tomorrow morning, Freddy and Chica showed the new Hufflepuffs where their common room was and let them in, showing them all their rooms.
Sun and Moon were relieved when their room only had two bed, one for each of them, their carts from the train ride already in the room.
"You should unpack everything and get your ties and new robes on, if you'd like we could give you both a tour of the castle?" Freddy offers.
As much as Sun wants to say 'Yes! Of course!' He worries Moon has had enough of people they've only just met for one day, "Oh, maybe later? If that's ok?"
Moon knows what Sun is doing, "You go, I'll just stay here."
Sun turns to Moon who was sitting on their bed, "But-"
"I don't like you going with strangers without me there, but he DID help us a lot, don't make me be the reason not to do something you want to do."
Sun intertwines their fingers and hold them to their chest, "are you sure?"
Moon just gives Sun a look, Sun gets the message.
"O-Okay then," he turns back to Freddy, "I would like a tour."
Freddy nods, "I'll be in the main room, just come down whenever you're ready ok? You know how to get there?"
Sun nods and Freddy leaves, closing the door quietly behind him.
Sun turns to sit next to Moon, "Will you be ok on your own?"
"Sun, this is the only chance you get to actually have fun without someone breathing down your neck or preventing that fun from happening, take advantage of it."
Sun hangs their head down, "I just wish there was a way to talk to you while far away..."
"There probably is," Moon says, "but the teachers probably won't tell us."
"Maybe Freddy knows? Or Chica? Or Roxy? Monty?"
"I don't know, Sunshine... we should put our things away," Moon stands up, Sun following, "I probably won't stay in here all day, just chill with Eclipse for while then walk around this place myself."
"Don't get lost then" Sun says playfully with a side smirk.
Moon smiles and flicks Suns nose, "Don't get distracted and wonder off."
Sun rolls his head and opens his suitcase, putting everything away, zipping it back up and sliding it underneath their bed.
He puts on his new Hufflepuff robes and tie, "I'm going now, will you be-"
"Sun."
"Yeah?"
"Go."
"Ok."
Sun leaves and closes the door behind, Moon let's out a huff of laughter and turns to Eclipses cage, holding a finger to the gaps and the owl rubs its head on their finger.
"Guess it's just us now."
Moon let's Eclipse out of their cage, the Owl flying out and landing on Suns bed, getting comfortable in the blankets, Moon goes back to his bed and flops back, feet still on the ground.
Thoughts start running around their head, and not the good kind, all the bad things that could or ARE happening to Sun right now, What if he's scared? What if he's upset? What if he didn't want to go alone? What if someone hurts him? What if something ELSE happens?! What if something happens and Moon can't protect or help him because he isn't there?!
Moon shoots back up, not bothering to change their robes and tie, saying a quick bye to Eclipse and running out the door, not closing it behind him.
It's already been a long while since Sun and Moon starts getting a bad feeling, that's not even their worried thoughts talking... please be ok...
Freddy and Chica showed Sun around the castle, mainly the classes so they know where they are, they had met up with Roxy and Monty on the way too.
"This is the Charms classroom," Freddy says, "You'll have Professor Flitwick teaching you."
"He's the little one right?" Sun says.
The 5th years all laugh a little and Sun takes pride in that.
"Yeah," Roxy says, "He's the little one."
"Oh right!" Freddy says, "We were supposed to find Professor Sprout for your timetable, she'll probably be in the garden room."
They only get a few feet away from the Charms room until Sun spots something fluttering behind a corner, with the 5th years ahead of him, he wonders over to find it, turning to corner and sees the fluttering thing take another.
After many corners, Sun finally turns the final one and sees a glowing sparkling purple butterfly, sitting on the windowsill.
"Oh hello little friend" Sun says, slowly walking to the butterfly as to not scare it.
Sun only takes a few steps forward, until he's shoved into the wall next to him, hitting his arm and his head.
"Nice one, Brandon!" Sun hears, "That butterfly spell really worked."
The butterfly starts to melt and turn back into a pile of glitter, "Of course it worked, Ry" Brandon says, both were 3rd years.
Sun pushes themselves off of the wall but only to be shoved back into it, hitting their back, they could already feel the tears form in their eyes, from the pain and from the haunting memories.
"Aww, what's da mattda?" Ry says mockingly, "Did we make you cwy?"
Suns breathing starts to pick up speed, he doesn't know what to do, what CAN he do? No ones around, it's only them three.
"Or did we remind you of your 'shared past'?" Ry says, "Oh yeah, everyone's talking about it, coming up with theories on what your past was, did swomething twaumatic happwen? Mommy not letting you make fwiends?"
"The doors open" Brandon says, opening a closet door next to the three.
Sun was grabbed and pulling from the wall, trying to wrestle his way out to not be put into the dark closet, he can't go back, he only just go away, he can't go back, he can't he can't he can't he can't!
It doesn't help that Brandon helps Ry shove Sun into the closet...
"Moondro-!" Was all Sun could yell as loud as he could, until Brandon helped Ry shove him into the closet and slamming the door, leaning his back on the other side.
"Uh, Guys?" Roxy says, "Where's Sun?"
They all stop walking and turn around, Sun wasn't there anymore.
"Where'd they go?" Chica says in a panic, "What if they get lost?"
"They're probably already lost," Monty says, "We just have to find 'em."
"But where and why would they leave?" Freddy says, "Maybe they saw something?"
"Moondro-!"
A horrified scream echos through the halls, everyone's head, even different students in the hallway turn to where the scream echoed in the room.
"Was that Sundrop?" Chica asks.
"Sounds like it" Monty says.
Down the way everyone was looking, a blur of dark blue and black zooms past, if you blink you would of missed it.
Freddy runs after the blur, trying to follow them but loosing them after a few turns, but he continues going on these turns to try and get some idea of where Suns scream came from, the other 5th years, including some other students, following the group of 4 in curiosity.
Sun tries to bang on the door with impatience, he has to get out, he can't go through this again, he's only just got out of it!
"Aww poor little Sundwop" Ry mocks, "Calling for your bwother to save you~ Suck it up!" Ry hits the door with a hard punch, scaring Sun into stop hitting the door themselves.
It was too small in the closet to even sit down, Sun can feel their shaking legs stat to give way, leaning on the back of what ever was in the dark closet.
Sun never liked the darkness, much preferring the light where they can see and know what and who was around them, but this just brings back dark, horrible, disturbing, terrifying memories, on top of the darkness itself...
"He's stopped trying to break out," Brandon says, "Let's just go."
Ry gets off of the door and he and Brandon turn to leave, high-fiving each other as the walk, only being able to take a few steps till Ry gets decked in the face, sending him back.
Brandon not given the chance to react, gets a strong elbow to the nose, and kick in the stomach, collapsing on the ground.
Ry stands up on one knee but gets kicked across the face, finally sending him to the ground.
Moon runs over to the closet and pulls it open quickly, Sun jumping out and grabs Moon into a tight hug, Moon having to take a few steps backwards to save falling over.
Sun burying their head in Moons shoulder, small cries escaping, Moon slowly leads Sun to sit on the floor with them, running a hand through their golden hair.
"I'm so sorry..." he whispers, "I should of came with you..."
Sun, still crying, shakes his head in Moon shoulder, not speaking verbally.
Freddy, Chica, Roxy and Monty skid as they all turn the final corner, they didn't expect to see two 3rd years on the ground with bloodied faces, or the closet door open, or Sun practically squeezing the life out of Moon, but it looks like he's doing the same to Sun.
The 4 of them slowly walk forward, a crowd of students had formed behind them and flooding the hallway.
The 3rd years sit up slowly, both having bloody noses and one with a bruised eye, the turn their heads slowly towards the twins, Moon looking over Sun shoulder with a look that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
They hurry to their feet and bolt it past the 5th years and through the crowd, "You're a freak!" They yell.
Freddy tries to step closer, but stops when Moon gives him the same look, but with a growl this time.
"I trusted you to help him..."
Freddy takes his foot back and takes a small step back just incase, "I know... and I'm sorry I couldn't..."
Sun shakes their head again, tears still falling, "It wasn't his fault..." he says quietly, "I-I saw something shiny and followed it... turns out one of those guys used a spell to trick me away... it was my fault.. I-I shouldn't of left..."
"It was none of your faults."
Professor McGonagall pushes through the crowd, "I should have put a closer eye on those two, they've been causing trouble since their first day at Hogwarts, they belong to my house and I should have known something like this would've happened, if you want to blame anyone, it should be me."
McGonagall stands next to Freddy, putting a hand on his shoulder, "What exactly happened, Fazbear?"
"I... I do not know..." Freddy says, "We were giving Sundrop a tour around the castle, but when we turned around they were gone... we just heard a scream and followed it to here."
McGonagall nods her head understandably and let's Freddys shoulder go, taking a step forward only for Moon to move himself and Sun backwards.
McGonagall sighs through her nose and turns to the crowd, "Everyone back as you were! No need to stick your noses where it shouldn't be! Glamrocks, you can stay."
All the other students don't hesitate to up and leave the hallways end, returning to what they were doing before.
"Fazbear, Chick, once the twins have calmed down I want you two to take them to Dumbledores office, he is awaiting their arrival and I want you both to wait for the twins to come back out" McGonagall says to Freddy.
"...Are you gonna hurt us as well?.."
All head turn to the kids on the ground, Sun still having their head buried, but Moon was looking over Suns shoulder, only his eyes showing.
"What?" Freddy says, not believing what he had just heard, "Why would any of us want to hurt you?"
McGonagall frowns and takes her wand out, Moon instantly tenses up which was clear to see, McGonagall gently sets her wand on the ground and kicks it away from her, out of reach.
"I'm not going to hurt either of you," She says slowly, "No one is, Dumbledore just want to speak to you both to see what we could do to make your time at Hogwarts more safe for you, I will have a word with those 3rd years and I assure you nothing like that will happen again."
Moon moves their eyes to focus on the wand on the ground, the half and half light and dark colour reminds Moon of him and Sun.
