Back to Howgarts
After the slythering common room was repaired, after the week off and after James´s party the boys returned to school to finish their school year. However they all returned somehow a bit different. Peter returned with an aversion to cauldron cakes after getting sick for eating too many at James´s party. Remus and Sirius returned holding hands and kissing discreetly but openly. Lily returned with ten sickles in her pockets after telling Marlene what had happened. Marlene returned with ten sickles less. And James returned slightly traumatized; nonetheless very happy for his friends.
The first lesson of the next Monday was transfigurations. Of course James and Sirius hadn´t done their homework, and when McGonagall asked Sirius to state three reasons a porcupine could be turned onto a cushion Sirius stood up with confidence and fake reading from a blank piece of parchment.
"Good job Mr. Black. " said McGonagall. Sirius took his seat between James and Remus and gave a knowing look to the first one and a sly grin to the second boy. "Maybe next time try actually writing them down."
Sirius´s eyes went wide. He tried to hide a giggle. He had been caught but as always his cynical personality wouldn´t allowed him to take it seriously. Remus rolled his eyes and gave his hand a squeeze.
McGonagall, however had noticed something apart from Sirius reading a blank paper. Her four boys were sitting differently. Usually James sat at Sirius right side and Remus at his left. Today however the boys had switched. Then she noticed. Sirius left hand was taking notes while the other was intertwined with Remus´s. They had switched so both of them could take notes, while also holding each other.
McGonagall dismissed the class.
"Mr. Lupin, Mr. Black, a moment please." called McGonagall.
James and Peter signalled them to communicate they would wait on the hall.
"Yes professor?" asked Remus once the classroom was empty.
Both boys were standing in front of her. They weren´t holding hands anymore but they were as close as they could be. As if they were attached at the side. Minerva knew that feeling. She smiled.
"I´m happy to see both of you, gentlemen, finally, got your shit together." she said pointing at their hands that were brushing against each other.
Both boys stood there, their jaws dropped. Professor McGonagall laughed quietly. When the boys recovered they spoke at the same time:
"Did you just swore, professor?" asked Remus in awe.
"Damn right we got it together, Minnie." said Sirius as he grabbed Remus hand.
Professor McGonagall smiled at her boys. They had come a long way. She recomposed her face into a more stern expression.
"That´s all boys. Mr. Black I expect your homework, tomorrow on my desk plus three inches more on the effects of a bad transfiguration on animals."
Sirius sighted at the prospect of spending his afternoon doing homework.
"See you later professor." said Remus as he pulled Sirius towards the door. He passed his arm around the raven haired boy. And Sirius light up once again."I´ll help you okay?" Remus whispered. Although McGonagall could still hear them.
"The things I do to get you on your own, Lupin." teased Sirius.
"You could have just done your homework and asked me out on a proper date."
"Ah, but that´s the trick. I know you like to study. Am I not so thoughtful?"
"So thoughtful, Pads." laughed Remus crouching down to plant a kiss at Sirius cheek. Sirius beamed.
The door was closed and professor McGonagall stood there; alone, but with her heart fill with fond affection and a big smile on her face.
"James!" Sirius screamed on the hall. "You won´t believe it! Minnie just swore!"
"No way! Get out of town! What did you do?!" was James response.
Their voices faded as they made their way through the halls to their next class.
"Those boys never change." She said to herself. She started packing her things and erasing the chalkboard.
“Oh, Albus owns me ten galleons.” she thought slyly.
