Summary
Teddy Lupin loved his parents, and they loved each other... right?A box of lettersA little boyA secret hidden for 38 years
Note
Even if Wolfstar isn't canon (it is...), I honestly believe that Lupin never loved Tonks. Not even because of the age difference. They just had no chemistry, and the as a writer, I just don't like Tonks' character arch. So, if you ship them, keep that in mind as you read.  (yes this lowkey started as an orange parody)

letter 2

It was raining. Pouring, really. The lake spilled over and lapped at the surrounding trees, and Hagrid’s hut was swaying in the wind. All the students were holing up in the common rooms, and Teddy was no different. With a foot of parchment for Potions essay on the table before him, he sighed, and fell backward onto the shag carpeted floor that he’d been sitting on.

He really didn’t want to do this essay. You know the feeling. You have this massive task before you, and nothing else to do, but you’d literally do nothing just to keep from doing this.

“Aha!” Teddy said audibly, then regretted, knowing that it sounded dorky. But that isn’t the point. The point is, he’d remembered that there was something that he could be doing!

He hurried over to a large armchair in the corner, and after groping around under it for a few seconds, he extracted what he was looking for. A dilapidated old box smelling of butterbeer stains.

Dear Mum + Dad

I’m sorry for what I said about Sirius (It’s a family name). He’s not so bad, really. A little annoying, I suppose, but for good reason.

He and James are fast friends, nearly like brothers even though they’ve only known each other for about two weeks. He confided in us that he hates his family, and is nothing like them, and they hate him, too. He generally causes mayhem at home, and is punished, but he says that he’ll never stop.

I feel like I’ve known all of them for so long, it’ll be so odd not to see them in the summer.

The other day, I caught Sirius and James planning to prank Professor McGonagall. They hate her, but that’s mostly because she always catches them misbehaving, and she’s one of the only teachers who doesn’t favour them. I don’t think it’s a good idea to prank her, she is rather sharp, and won’t hesitate to put them in detention.

Anyway, I have Transfiguration to sort out, so I’ll end this letter. Miss you both!

Again, Teddy wondered why he’d never heard of this Sirius. It seemed that his father and James Potter had been very good friends with him. If only he knew Sirius’s last name, to find more about this family of his, or to look him up

Teddy shifted through some of the letters, looking for Sirius’s name to pop up again. And pop up it did. Every letter mentioned him at least once, if not many times. Other repeated names were James and Peter, later Severus Snape and Lily Evans.

These names were ones that Teddy knew, thanks to legends of the Order of the Phoenix, and tales of the Wizarding Wars, but also because these names had been reused by Teddy’s godfather, Harry, on his own children. There was Lily, Albus Serverus, and James Rubeus, all still quite young.

Even Teddy’s name was recycled, Ted was his grandfather’s name, and his middle name had been his father’s.

As Teddy glanced back at the letter, he was struck with curiosity, and a little amusement. How was this prank with McGonagall going to end? He pulled out the next piece of parchment.
