Occlumency/Legilimency
Occlumency
Could an occlumens have multiple patroni by blocking certain memories to temporarily change their personality and as such, have a different spirit animal? And I know the explanation is probably that the full personality is still there, just not being accessed (would obliviation count, I wonder), but I just want people to be able to change their patronus at will.
Could a strong enough occlumens
- fool the sorting hat
- fool Veritaserum
- fool spells to compel honesty?
Legilimency
Can legilimens inception a person?
Pensieves
Stars One thing that I've always wondered about is the existence of Pensieves We see it used multiple times in the series, and the aspect I don't see too much about is the fact it has some sort of Divination/Time magic built in. When a person's memory is put in, you would expect it only to be what they can see, no matter if it's through the periphery. But the times we see, Pensieves seem to take the memory in time and build the whole room, and faces that the person couldn't actually see If you Pensieve a memory of a meeting, you can listen to and write down anything in different languages to translate, you can simply watch over people's shoulders as they write previously secret notes, study their body language with more intensity to pick out microexpressions of fear, disgust, anger etc
It's an incredible spy tool, and temporally removing memories seems to have no adverse effects
Stars There is also the fact that such a tool seems to be clear cut for evidence in a court So many times Harry could have given memories to clear his name, especially as the memory seems to just be the point in time the Pensieve latches on to and builds the space out of
On the flipside, we know that faking something in great detail is possible, Voldemorts vision of Sirius got to Harry because of the horcrux, but it was detailed enough that it fooled them, especially as, at that point, Voldemort himself had not been in the Hall of Prophecy But that also brings up the question if Harry put that memory in a Pensieve, what would show up on the labels? Could he even actually view it in a Pensieve, or would it simply be that fog that Slughorns had since he tampered with it and that didn't exist
Kimmmm I think the only way it could work without being broken is that it fills in blank spots with information that the person knows. So if person A has a memory of looking at the back of someone's head, but knows that person's face from other encounters, then the pensieve will fill that in. Anything person A doesn't know would be fuzzy
Stars Ehh, the Courtroom scene was basically a ton of people, and while Dumbledore likely knew them, he can't exactly predict their expressions, but Harry was watching all of them from a different angle to Dumbledores past self
Stars Thoughts and memories could also intersect with possession. Could Ginny pull a memory from the times she lost time to the diary? She wasn't in control of her body, but she was there and technically her senses were being used. Who would the Pensieve latch onto then?
Do wixen have perfect recall?
Snape looks at harrys memories and they are sort of jumbled because he sees different stuff at once and it mixes. But it doesn't change over time. Same with the extracted memories. They aren't fuzzy or jumbled, they are complete recollections and treated as an objective account of the situation.
As far as I remember, the first time that we talk about memories is in the second book. Riddle preserved a memory of a conversation he had with Headmaster Dippet in the diary. We don't know how much of that was true, but it was as clear as anything else in the movie. We only knew through context (and a sepia tone, I think) that it was a memory. Then, book 5. Harry has to learn Occlumency. Snape can see his memories. They are mushed up because Harry doesn't calm his mind and Snape is being a dick, but there are remnants of scenes we've seen before and it's the same shots, nothing is different. Nobody is wearing different clothes, nothing is in a different place, nothing is blurry like he doesn't entirely remember it. Lastly, memories as observed in a pensieve: As clear as the present yet again, even after many years (as evidenced by Slughorns memory), only muddy and undefined if there has been tampering. There is no evidence in the text to support that the memories aren't exactly correct and have been influenced by how they feel about events (for example, nobody contests Snapes assertions about what happened between him and the marauders).
Aphantasia
What, if any, effect does the absence of an inner eye have on ones abilities to use occlumency and ones vulnerability to legilimency?
