Chapter 2

||I hate being a player in this game that I never signed up for||

Y/N P.O.V

I walked out of the Potions classroom after my last class of the day, just one more week and we would be on our Christmas break and the Yule Ball would happen.

I headed towards the library to study for my transfiguration test tomorrow.

“Y/L/N!” I heard a voice call from behind me. One of the Weasley twins was running toward me a grin on his face.

“What is it?” I asked him, sighing.

“I was wondering if you had a date to the Yule Ball?” He asked me.

“Let me guess, asking for your brother or a friend?” I scoffed, he wasn’t the first to ask me, honestly I had no idea if I was going to end up going to the ball. It seemed like a waste of time although I already had my dress.

“No, Georgies is already going with Angelina Johnson, and no not for a friend,” Fred Weasley laughed.

“Then for who?” I raised an eyebrow at him.

“Me,” He said slyly.

I couldn’t help myself but laugh out loud causing him to look at me startled as well as those around me giving me almost concerned looks as I wiped the tears of laughter from my eyes.

“What's so funny,” He asked me.

“The fact that you’re asking me if I have a date to the ball for you,” I said choking up. “That's absurd, you realize that?”

“How is that absurd?”

You, Fred Weasley interested in me?” I smiled with remorse looking up at him.

“I don’t think its absurd, what I think is absurd is that you haven’t answered my question,” he said almost annoyed.

By this time the hallway was nearly empty, only a few lost first years trickling through the corridor, everyone would either be in their dorms by now or in the Great Hall for dinner.

“Fine, no I don’t have a date to the Yule Ball,” I sighed.

“Then d’you want to come with me?” He asked me casually.

I felt my face flare up as I stared at this man, he was asking me to the Yule Ball? Really? That's…that's unexpected.

“Now why would you want me to come with you? We’ve never talked before?” I questioned surprised.

“I dunno, maybe because you only live once and I don't have a date and you don’t either,” He shrugged leaning up against the wall.

“You're not joking with me are you?” I asked him.

“No, of course not, why would you think that?”

“You’re always joking,” I answered doubtfully.

“Oh c’mon Y/N, you don't have a date and neither do I, why shouldn’t we go together?” He laughed.

“Oh I dunno, perhaps because we don’t even know each other?”

“Then we could get to know each other before the ball, after all it's in about two weeks and there's a Hogsmeade trip coming up, the offers are going to expire,” Fred said, golden-brown eyes looking me up and down. “In three…two…”
“Fine! Fine, only if we get to know each other before we go I’ll go with you!” I said submitting, he grinned suddenly and pushed off the wall a hand tilting my chin up.

“You won’t regret it!” He said excitedly, his eyes narrowing slightly before turning on his heel leaving me in the middle of the hallway bewildered at that encounter with the Gryffindor.

After dinner I sat in the common room with Adrian and a few fourth year friends of mine from the Quidditch team; Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott.

“So let me get this straight,” Adrian said processing. “You said yes to going out with Fred Weasley?”

I nodded, I had told him and the other Slytherins about Fred asking me to the Yule ball just a few moments ago, I had told Adrian but he repeated it out loud in front of the fourth years.

“Why would you do that?” He asked me.

“Because he was right, I didn’t have a date to the Yule Ball and neither did he, also he was quite insistent,” I shrugged.

“You could have had any other guy but yet you chose him?” Adrian asked, his face paling.

“Why is it so bad that I’m going out with him?” I asked, he sounded almost jealous.

“Because he’s a Weasley Y/N! It's probably like a dare or something, he would never go out with you!” Adrian said, his voice getting louder.

“You do not get to judge me! Alright? I said yes, so what! And I don't think it's a dare, that would be entirely cruel if it was and he doesn’t seem like a cruel person Adrian! Why are you acting like this?” I growled.

“Because there is an entirely better option right in front of you!” He growled.

“What? You mean one of these bloody fourth years-no offense,” I said quickly.

“None taken,” they said in unison.

“I’m not going to go into this blindly,” I laughed. “And I’m certainly not going to back down and go with one of these-”

“I’m not talking about them!” Adrian shoved himself up from the couch and stormed out of the common room and slammed the door to the boys dormitory behind him.

“YOU’RE BEING BLOODY RIDICULOUS ADRIAN!” I shouted after him.

“He’s just being like that because he wished he was the one who asked you out, we told him to ask you out but he clearly didn’t listen,” Draco told me.

“Really? Well, its too damn late now,” I growled. “I’m not backing out of this now, it's his own fault.”

“True,” Draco agreed with me.

“I’m going to bed,” I said standing up while saying goodnight to my friends before leaving them to their own devices as I made my way to my dorm room.

“She said yes?!” George exclaimed. “Okay that doesn’t mean anything.”

“What do you mean it doesn’t mean anything, we’re going out and then we’re going to go to the ball, how does that not mean anything George, you just don’t want to admit that I’m going to win,” I laughed laying back on my bed.

“Its true George,” Lee Jordan pitched in. “Apparently a lot of guys have asked her out, including Cedric Diggory and she said no.”

“How did she say yes to you?” George asked incredulously.

“Because I’m the better looking twin George that's why,” I laughed. “Besides I didn’t really give her any other option but to say yes.”

“You confunded her?” my brother exclaimed, I rolled my eyes throwing my pillow at him.

“No, I didn’t confund her you git,” I said. “She was just so charmed by me.”

“Uh-huh, well the bets are not over yet, you still need her to say she loves you,” he laughed.

“What's the timeline?” I ask.

“Till the end of the year,” George shrugged.

“Alright, like I said you’re going to lose.”
