Chapter 2

Sirius POV

The next two days were spent much like the first. They tried inviting Remus to come to meals with them but he always said he was busy or tired. James, Pete, and he spent most of the time in the common room trying to escape the awkwardness of the room.

Today was the first official day of the school year which meant all students were arriving. Trying to avoid all the incoming students, the three were forced to stay in their room. The three of them were huddled on James’ bed talking about James’ first football games and the party they were planning for after. Remus stayed on his bed reading, occasionally taking a bite out of a chocolate bar.

Around 11 there was a knock on the door, Sirius sent confused glances toward James and Pete who just shrugged seemingly just as confused as he. James was the one who ended up getting up to answer the door, “Oh hey! Have you finally succumbed to my charms?” James said, flashing a cocky smile to the person at the door, who he assumed was Lily.

“No.” And he was right, he’d know that voice anywhere, granted he usually hears it yelling at James, but he would still recognize it.  “I'm actually here to see someone, can I come in?” James stepped aside letting Lily walk in. She looked around a moment before her eyes landed on, “Remus!”

The dirty blond head shot up at his name, and the second he realized who the voice belonged to, a large smile appeared on his face. His smile is cute. It also happened to be the most emotion he’s shown since he met him. He hopped off the bed and in two long strides he was hugging Lily and Lily was hugging back. Remus lifted Lily off the ground and began spinning her. He looked at James whose face he couldn't fully read for the first time ever, it seemed to be a mix of shock, confusion, jealousy, and anger.

Remus placed Lily back on the ground finally letting her go, “How are you?” Lily asked.

“I’m good. How are you?” Remus replied.

He didn’t know what he expected Remus’s voice to sound like when he was actually talking but not that. It was deep, like push me up against the wall and fuck me deep (pull yourself together Sirius!). And he has an accent, a welsh accent to be specific.

“I’m well! I’ve missed you. How’s your dad?” Remus’s smile seemed to drop a little at the question.

“Well, dad is the same as always.” It surprised him to hear a bitter tone in his words.

“I’m sorry,” Lily said, placing a hand on his shoulder.

“It’s fine, but how are you, parents and sister?” Seemingly understanding he doesn’t want to talk about it she left it.

“They’re good. Petunias’ a bitch as always, she actually met this guy at college, he’s just as much of a bigoted asshole as her,”

“Guess they are perfect for each other.” Remus quipped.

Lily snorted, “Yeah and they’re planning to get married.”

The smile on his face brightened as he let out a little laugh, “Arnt they a little young? What is 20?”

“That’s what I said! She didn’t seem to like it very much when I pointed it out though.”

James seemed to have enough of this and coughed reminding them of their presence. Lily whipped around and Remus looked up in surprise, seemingly remembering their presence. A small blush rose on Remus’s cheeks out of embarrassment.

It was the cutest thing he’s ever seen.

Now that he was looking up he was able to admire Remus in full. There were white rough scars slashing across his face. One went from the middle of his right eyebrow to below his lip and crossed the bridge of his nose, there were two more on either side of it. He had auburn curly hair that he could guess looked gold in the sunlight. He wondered what it felt like, it looked soft and fluffy. His jaw was sharp and his cheekbones were prominent. He had freckles decorated around his nose and long black eyelashes. His eyes were golden brown, which reflected warmth and comfort.

Overall he was lanky and tall looking about 6’4”, he couldn't tell due to the sweater he wore but he looked skinny. He seemed to always be wearing a sweater that was slightly too big for him, the sleeves were always long enough so he could cover his hands.

“So how do you guys know each other?” James asked, snapping him out of his daze and tumbling back to reality.

“My family moved to the same town as him when we were 14. We became friends and continued to talk once in a while once I moved. He told me he was coming here this year so I wanted to see if he was telling the truth.” Lily explained in an annoyed tone.

“So…did you guys…like…date?” James stuttered out. Sirius placed his face in his hands, this man was hopeless.

“I don't see why it matters.” She responded defensively.

Remus placed a hand on her shoulder, “No we didn't. Im quite gay.”

YAY!

“Oh.” James brought his hand to the back of his neck as a blush rose on his cheeks clearly embarrassed.

“Is that a problem Potter?” Lily took a step forward prepared to attack. Obviously, James didn't have an issue with Remus being gay as his best friend was gay. But he hadn't come out to the school yet meaning, James and Peter were the only people who knew he was gay.

James removed his hand from the back of his neck and waved them frantically in front of him in surrender, “No, no not at all. I honestly don't care if you are queer at all I support everyone, I promise.”

Lily seemed okay with his response and turned back to Remus, “Sit next to me tonight at dinner so we can compare schedules okay.” Remus nodded in response and watched as she left, shutting the door behind her.

The rest of that day was the same as always. Once Lily left Remus seemed to shut down again and went back to reading so the Marauders went back to planning the party. It was now dinner and Sirius was watching James watch Remus and Lily discuss their schedules clearly jealous.

“This sucks! I want to discuss my classes with Lily!” James said hopelessly resting his head on his hand.

Sirius reached over and patted his shoulder, “It'll be ok mate.”

If only he believed it.
