Chapter 1
Sirius POV
“Padfoot!” Sirius turns to see James running towards him with the same brown unruly hair he’s had since he was 11, waving his hands wildly.
It’s two days before the first day of their seventh year at Hogwarts and he’s prepared for the best year of his life. Why is it gonna be the best year of his life, you may ask. Well, to start off it’s the first year he spent the whole summer at the Potters meaning he didn’t have to deal with his parents. He ran away the summer before his 6th year and he spent that year with the Potters and healing from his family meaning he was still dealing with a lot. No, he’s not perfect, and he’s still healing, BUT he was able to enjoy his summer and now he is going to spend his last year with his two best mates, Prongs and Wormtail, pulling the best pranks they can and just making memories. He’s officially free from the clutches of his family.
“Prongs! I missed you mate.” He yelled back at James wrapping an arm around his shoulders.
“We literally saw each other 10 minutes ago Pads.” James laughed.
“And? I missed my prongsie!” He jutted out his lip making the best pouty face he could.
“Whatever you weirdo. I have something to tell you and wormtail, where is he?” James rose on his tippy toes, not that he needed the extra height he was already 5’9” a few inches taller than him. “Aha! There he is.” Sirius didn’t have time to locate where James was pointing before he was yanking him towards Wormtail.
Luckily, it was two days before the start of school most kids didn’t show up this early. The only ones that did were the people who played sports or wanted to by choice. James had to because of football but Pete and he decided to show up early as well so they could have more time to plan their first prank of the year.
“Wormtail, there you are. I have to tell you guys something.” James said once they reached Pete.
“Don’t tell me Evans finally said yes.” Sirius joked.
James scowled and shoved his shoulder lightly, “No you wanker. I wanted to tell you guys that I ran into McGonagall on my way back from the locker room and she informed me we have a fourth roommate this year, he was a last-minute transfer.”
The smile that had been on his face since the arrival had fallen off. It was supposed to be their year, a fourth roommate will throw it all off. They won’t be able to talk freely about their pranks or joke around with each other like they used to. James noticed his frown and wrapped his arm around him again, “Don’t be upset, I'm sure it will be fine. McGonagal said he’s already in the dorm so just be nice. For all, we know he’ll be a nice bloke.” James smiled encouragingly and he tried to smile back but he's sure it came out as more of a grimace.

They made their way up to their dorm with their luggage, excited to unpack and be back at Hogwarts. When they opened the door the first thing he noticed was the new bed in the room. Their new roommate has appeared to already have set up his stuff and is reading on his bed. The bed is dressed in a midnight blue comforter and what looks like midnight blue sheets with stars covering them, his nightstand holds a photo of what looks like him and his parents when he was a child. There weren’t many other decorations, it looked almost boring or bland.
Their new roommate didn’t even look up when they walked in, just continued staring at his book, which now that he was closer seemed to be Shakespeare’s McBeth, causing him to roll his eyes, great they were stuck with a nerd. James and he shared a look before going to their beds to start setting up.
James was the first to break the silence, “Hey mate! My name is James Potter, what’s yours?”
The guy barely glanced up from his book before responding, “Remus Lupin”. There was no emotion in his tone, it sounded like Sirius whenever he was around family. It creeped him out.
“I’m Sirius Black and that is Peter Pettigrew.” He added, pointing to Pete feeling embarrassed after realizing Remus wasn’t even looking.
“Like that star?” Remus replied this time not even glancing up once.
“Yeah exactly, most people don’t get that.” Remus shrugged in response, not even bothering to answer. Sirius looked and James who was already looking at him, James had his eyebrows furrowed and eyes wide as if saying, what the fuck? and he bet his own expression wasn’t far off.
They all turned back to unpacking their luggage trying to ignore the awkward silence in the room.
