“So everyone- Thank you all for coming.” Nijika addressed the room, housing all her cohorts consisting of kessoku band and SIDEROS members, STARRY staffers, as well as Futari and Hiroi. “As we all know, Hitori and Kita-chan are getting married next Friday.”
There were small murmurs of acknowledgements and congratulations from the crowd, as the happy couple blushed and smiled shyly.
“So we’re all gathered here because- well, Kita and Hitori-chan are inviting us to the wedding, and well- they asked me to organize this so we all can ask any details regarding- regarding that.” Nijika smiled, eyeing the two girls. “So, Kita-chan-?”
“Thank you, Nijika-chan!” Kita stood up, dragging Hitori along with her. As she replaced Nijika’s spot in front of the room, she turned towards her fiance, smiling as she eyed the rings on their intertwined hands, Hitori responding to her small smile with one of her own. She turned back to face the audience, who seemed to be collectively watching the couple with an air of perplexed intrigue.
“First of all, I would just like to thank you all for being so… accepting! Initially, both of us were afraid to come out about our relationship-”
“Aw, Kita-chan! You know you didn’t have to worry!” Nijika interjected.
“Yeah! I love the LGTV people!” Futari chuckled out.
“LGBT.” Kita patiently corrected. “Right, yeah- we’d like to thank you guys for being so understanding.. I can understand if some might find the idea of a gay relationship and wedding a bit foreign.. So we can clear up any misunderstandings here, perhaps- and also discuss plans for the ceremony as well. Isn’t that right, sweetie?” Kita said, turning to Hitori.
“A-ah y-yes.”
“Alright, so does anyone have any questions?”
The audience returned to another bout of hushed murmurs as they visibly mulled with each other on what to ask the newly engaged couple. Out from the crowd, Kita spotted a small hand shooting upwards, Futari raising and swaying her hands left and right to catch her attention.
“Ah, yes- Futari-chan?”
“Since this is a gay wedding, would we all be wearing suits? And will the men be wearing gowns?”
Kita sputtered, giving Hitori the briefest of glances, the latter merely shaking her head meekly. “Uhh… no, Futari-chan. It’s just like a straight wedding. Just wear what you would- you know, wear at a straight wedding.”
Another wave of murmurs washed over the room as the people nodded their heads in tandem.
“So, will we be sitting in the straight section? Since none of us here are gay.” Akubi spoke up.
“Straight section?” Kita parroted, narrowing her eyes and leaning forward, making sure she hadn’t misheard Akubi.
“She meant like- you know how there’ll be two sides in a wedding hall-” Fuko steps in.
“Yeah- no, you will just be sitting next to- or y’know, on the side of the family or, relative- in this case, friend… You guys are friends to both of us, so- you can sit anywhere, really.”
“But the gay people-” Fuko began, but Kita interrupted her.
“It’s just like a normal- no, like a straight wedding!” Kita insisted.
“So we should just guess who’s gay?” Akubi asked.
“You- well, you don’t have to-”
“I guess we do, Akubi-chan.” Fuko said, prompting Akubi to nod and begin jotting it down on a notebook she seemingly conjured out of thin air.
“Guess… the… gay people…” Akubi mutters.
“Uhh, Ikuyo-” Hitori whispered, but Kita squeezed her hand reassuringly and threw a hasty smile.
“Ikuyo.” Another familiar whisper-like voice piped up, prompting the redhead to turn to Ryo, who was seated right next to Nijika on the couch. “When in the ceremony do we sing “Over the Rainbow”?"
“Uhh, you don’t. I-it’s not part of the service.”
“Ryo! You can’t ask that! It’s insensitive!” Nijika chided, tapping her lightly on the shoulder.
“What? I’m just asking.”
“I’m nervous, cause I can only do jazz hands for like three minutes before my hands start cramping.” Yoyoko suddenly said.
“You don’t have to do jazz hands, you’re not expected to-” Kita turned to Yoyoko, but the latter was seemingly avoiding her gaze.
“Oh, Kita-chan! I have something to ask!” Nijika raised her hand, “Can we watch the pony show from the straight section? Or do we have to wait by the back somewhere?”
“There won’t be a straight section- what- what’s a pony show?”
“Y’know, it’s when you all go like this-” Nijika began miming a gesture with her arm and body, swaying around flamboyantly.
“I- no, there won’t be none of this-” Kita mimicked the gesture, “-in the wedding.”
“Really?” Nijika asked in a crestfallen tone. Kita was about to reply further before Ryo asked her another question,
“When do we sing “YMCA”?”
“We’re not gonna be singing YMCA!” Kita said hotly. Ryo gave her a confounded look in response.
“What about “Fat Bottomed Girls”?” Yuyu raised her oversized sleeves.
“No, none of that either!”
“I don’t know where to buy a gay present.” Yoyoko said.
“Gay present? There’s no- just buy a normal present-” Kita turned to the twin tailed brunette, who once again, was avoiding her gaze. “You know, just buy a gift at a store like you would a normal couple.”
“Like, at the gay store?” Futari piped up.
“No, what-? Just a regular store!”
“Where do you get the euros to buy gay gifts?” Yoyoko asked in a low voice to Yuyu next to her.
“You don’t need to use euros, Ohtsuki-chan. Just use- Hello- Ohtsuki-chan-?”
“A-ah, Ohtsuki-chan… I-i think you should look at a person in the eye when they’re talking to you-” Hitori spoke in a small voice, causing Yoyoko to briefly gave both her and Kita fleeting glances, before averting her eyes back, as if she was afraid she might catch the gay bug for staring too long.
“You don’t use euros?” Nijika muttered to Ryo, who shrugged in response.
“Like, do we have to use another separate currency, or..” Akubi drawls out.
“No.” Kita said briskly. “Just use normal Japanese Yen.”
“Do we have to participate in the…. scissoring- or, or do we just watch and cheer in a fireman hat?” Hiroi suddenly stammered out.
“What the-!?” Kita exclaimed. Next to her, Hitori was trembling greatly, progressively reddening and blowing out steam like a rocket out to launch. “There won’t be any intercourse during the ceremony! None f-from us, and better be none from any of you either!”
“Oh thank god we don’t have to watch…” Hiroi whispered to Seika, who rolled her eyes.
“What is scissoring?” Futari questioned, breaking Hitori out of her stupor.
“N-n-next question!”
“When do we get to sing “It’s Raining Men, Hallelujah, It's Raining Men, Amen”?”
“Ryo-chan- for the last time, we’re not singing any of these!” Kita flustered.
Ryo furrowed her brows as she looked at Kita like had grown an extra pair of arms. “So there won’t be any gay hymns at the ceremony?”
“Ryo-chan- there’s no such thing as a gay hymn!” Kita said, barely containing it together.
“The hell…?” Ryo turned to Nijika with a disbelieving look.
“Would the fake officiant dress like a priest or a nun?” Nijika raised her hand again.
"Why would the officiant be fake?”
“Cause it’s a gay wedding..?”
“It’d be a real priest!”
“So it’d be a priest? I thought gay weddings would have those sexy boat captains that take their shirts off instead.” Akubi said.
“No, Akubi-chan! That’s for gay weddings! This is a lesbian wedding.” Fuko said.
“What would it be at a lesbian wedding, then?” Akubi flipped the question back at her.
“Maybe a big-tittied goth girl.” Yuyu suggested.
“Yuyu!” Yoyoko flustered, her face flaring red.
“What? I thought lesbians love goth girls.”
Kita could seriously sense foam beginning to form in her mouth. “What!? No, no! What the hell are you all talking about? It’s just gonna be a normal priest!”
“Do we throw anything other than rice?” Nijika asked.
“Like what? What else would you throw?” Kita turned quickly to Nijika, tears in her eyes.
“I don’t know..” Nijika mutters. “Skittles..?”
“Guys!” Kita heaved out, “A gay wedding is just like a straight wedding, okay? That’s my point!”
“But when you two kiss, is it okay for us to get up and go “Ew!”?” Hiroi said from the back.
“WHAT? Of course not-! Because it would be- That’d be homophobic!”
Ryo scoffed, nudging Nijika on the shoulder. “This coming from a girl who won’t let gay hymns at a gay wedding.”
“I’m- I’m literally the one- THIS IS MY GAY WEDDING! I’M MARRYING A GIRL!”
“Okay, but what about like an- involuntary gasp?” Hiroi suggested.
“I, y’know- I think it’s best if you don’t react at all, nee-san.” Kita said desperately.
“Okay, I guess I’ll just look away when it happens, then!”
Kita closed her eyes, exhaling loudly.
“Will Tegan and Sara be playing at the wedding?” Ryo asked.
“Tegan and- No they won’t be! We don’t even know them!”
“What about PVRIS?” Fuko suggested.
“No!”
“Aw… they won’t be there..?” Hitori mutters out.
Kita turned to her fiance, bewildered. “What the- Hitori-chan, what are you talking about?”
“Can we not have the pictures on the internet?” Yoyoko mutters.
“This is ludicrous!” Kita finally exclaimed.
“Loo- dick-rooze?” Futari mouthed out. “I thought you guys don’t like those.”
Kita turned back to face her fiance, who just smiled back wearily.
-
“Baby, come on… you know they’re just trying to be understanding….” Hitori muttered to a sulking Kita next to her. The redhead didn’t respond immediately, settling with collapsing her head on her fiance’s shoulder.
“I know..” She eventually said, “... they can just be too overwhelming sometimes, you know…? But I’m glad they didn’t try to alienate us or anything… their heart is in the right place.”
Hitori hummed as she began caressing Kita’s head soothingly. “They're a little confused.. But they got the spirit.”
“Yeah….”
The two fell into a comfortable silence, placated in just remaining in each other’s side.
“Ikuyo..?”
“Yes, my Hitori?”
“Can we really not get PVRIS to play at our wedding..?”
Kita huffed, rolling her eyes. “You’re lucky you’re so lovable.” she pouts. Hitori chuckled, planting a small kiss on her fiance’s head.
