the outcast club
Lily wasn’t speaking to us. Since the prank she hadn’t said a word to us, she left the dormitory before we woke up, she came once we were all asleep. We knew she was hanging with Severus, we knew she was mad at us for supporting the prank.
“I heard she was extra mad at you.” Mary told me during potions.
“What?”
“I heard from a Ravenclaw that Lily went to for help with our transfiguration homework. Her name is Dorcas, she said that she asked lily why she didn’t go to you since your the best in class. Lily said she’s sure you knew about the prank since your brother is James and all that.” Marlene explained. I wondered how Marlene had met Dorcas but we had more pressing issues.
“I didn’t know they were going to do that!” I explained.
“You don’t need to convince us..” Mary started.
“We thought it was perfect revenge.” Marlene finished. They grew closer each day. I looked over at Lily’s group, her and Severus were practically shoulder to shoulder. I saw Remus scratch his head with his wand and mutter something. It seemed odd but who was I to judge. I focused back to my groups potion, Mary was taking charge. After Lily and Severus, she was the best potion brewer.
“She’s really more mad at me?” I asked
“Yep.” Marlene didn’t miss a beat, Mary nudged her.
“It’s probably just a rumor. Besides Lily’s mad at all of us anyways.” Mary said. I appreciated her efforts but I still felt bad. Maybe I could’ve stopped the prank, maybe I could’ve put it together that umbrella would mean rain. Maybe I could’ve convinced James it was a bad idea. I spent the rest of the day in my head wondering what I could’ve been doing. Suddenly it was night time outside and I was in the common room. The only other person there was Remus Lupin sitting at the window with a book. I walked up to him, he seemed not to notice me. He used his wand to scratch his head and muttered “Lectiuncula Magna.” It was a spell. I wished I had my Latin book.
“Can I sit here?” I asked him, making my presence known. He looked at me confused.
“I s’pose” he kept his confused face but I sat down across from him.
“I thought you lot had detention until late.” I said.
“Finished early.” He shrugged, I could tell he wanted me to leave him alone but I needed to talk to someone. Someone that didn’t know my life story.
“Can you keep a secret?” I asked him. He looked at me even more confused, he also looked like he wanted to laugh.
“Yeah, I can keep secrets.” He seemed very intrigued and more confused. I wondered if I was making the right call, but I really wanted to talk to someone. I told him how Lily was mad at me, I told him how James had wanted me about the prank and how Lily hated that. I told him how Mary and Marlene were so close and I needed Lily to keep it balanced. I told him that Lily had Snape as a best friend, Mary and Marlene were best friends and then there was me. Remus was really easy to talk to and he was a great listener. He eventually even out his book down.
“Sorry,” I said once I had finished “I didn’t mean to just law all my troubles on you.” I started to get up.
“Sirius and James are best friends. Peter wants to be James best friend.” He said, I sat back down.
“And then there’s you.” I said
“Then there’s me. I get how you feel that’sall.” He shrugged. I suppose it was easier for me to talk about my feelings and it was for him.
“I guess you can say we’re the outcasts of our friend groups.”
“The outcasts?” He didn’t seem to like that world, I realized it was a tad harsh.
“In a good way, don’t worry. We can be the outcasts together, kinda like we’re in a club. The outcast club!” I smiled.
“The outcast club.” He repeated, “we’re we don’t have to worry about being anyones best friends.”
“Where we can complain that our friends are a tad dramatic.” I nodded and he laughed.
“A tad? I swear these boys are the poshes boys I’ve ever seen.” We both laughed.
“We’re probably the sanest out of our friend groups.” I smiled
“Which it saying a lot.” He said and we laughed.
“Remus the bird magnet.” Sirius joked. Remus and I turned to see the three boys who had entered the common room.
“Remus you do know that is my sister right?” James laughed and Remus rolled his eyes.
“We’re just friends” I told James and Remus nodded.
“Yeah come on, you saying I can’t be friends with people other than you lot?” Remus asked, It felt good being part of the outcast club.
