Mine and Yours
James and I practically ran onto the train with Peter trying his hardest to follow us. I sped walked passing each compartment until finally I found my friends. The train had already started by the time I sat down. Mary and Marlene were sitting next to each other while I sat across from them.
“Where’s Lily?” I asked, I worried she had missed the train and wouldn’t be able to get back to school. Or if she decided she was against wizardry all together and never came back. I loved Mary and Marlene but they were tightly knit from the start, having Lily around makes it easier.
“She promised Severus she would ride with him.” Mary said judging like.
“She asked us if we wanted to join them so you’re welcome to-“ Marlene started but I cut her off.
“Ugh Godrick no, I’d rather jump off the astrology tower.” Marlene and Mary laughed.
The good news was, we didn’t have to hear about Lily and Snapes’ Christmas break adventures. The super bad news is that we couldn’t see if the radio worked without her. It wouldn’t be fair, she’s helped us all this way, we all have to be there to see if it worked.
We caught each other up on our holidays, bought some sweets, and try not to think about the radio in Mary’s bag. It wasn’t going too well. We mostly sat there saying nothing and glancing at Mary’s bag. Luckily for us, my brother and Peter knocked on our compartment door.
“You girls mind any more company?” James asked and I shrugged them looked at my friends. They looked at each other then decided it was better they join then be sad about Lily and the radio. James sat next to me then Peter sat beside James, he seemed nervous sitting with us.
“Where are your friends?” Marlene asked right off the bat.
“At school, where’s your missing one?” James replied.
“Sitting with snape if you want to join them.” Mary added.
“And get drowned in grease? No thanks.” James scoffed and Marlene laughed.
“You’re going to try out for quidditch next year right? You kicked arse in flying lessons.” Marlene started the conversation with James. The two of them loved quidditch.
“Of course, and you?” James asked
“You better believe it,” Marlene smiled “I’ll be flying circles around all those chasers.”
“All of them except me of course, I’m just too fast.” James shot at her. The two of them went onto having a full blown quidditch conversation. Things about who’s better, which strategies are better, all things I found not at all interesting. Peter would try to add things to their conversation but he was more interested in watching quidditch than playing it.
I switched seats to sit next to Mary since neither of us wanted to join quidditch talk.
“Guess what present I got for Christmas,” I said
“What?” Mary asked.
“A book that translates Latin to English! Almost all spells are Latin so it’ll be easier to understand!”
“Really? The spells are Latin based?”
“Yes!” I grabbed my book and she grabbed her spell book we looked through all the words that matched.
I never thought that James would get along with my friends, we just seemed too different. But here we were spending most of the train ride having fun. I wondered if maybe I would get along with his friends too, I was kind of friends with Peter but not really. The only thing stopping me was that I never tried.
