Chapter 5
Regulus:
There’s tension in the air, Regulus can feel it.
He doesn’t know what the unresolved tension is about but he just wishes that it went away.
Something happened between James and Jace, that much is clear, though what exactly happened he has no idea about.
They are all now watching How To Train Your Dragon; The Hidden World.
Everyone is sitting at their usual spots except for James who is sitting in the feet of Sirius and Remus because Jace sat at his spot.
James had gone to the kitchen to fetch drinks for everyone, as soon as he left Jace extended his legs on the entire sofa, sitting up with his back to the armrest as he held out an arm for Regulus who gladly snuggled into his side.
When James cames back he looked at Jace and Regulus, his eyes darting between the two a few times as he went and sat down on the floor his back to the both of them.
Whether you are watching movies alone with Jace or with a bunch of people its still the same. While everyone is quiet, occasionally laughing Jace is going on and on and on about how his mother’s father’s bestfriend’s son’s something something is god knows how related to the voice actress of Astrid.
They’re halfway through the movie at the point where Ruffnut is taken prisoner and Jace just says what has to be considered the biggest spoiler.
“Oh my GOSH” Yells James exasperately, “SHUT THE FUCK UP”
“Sunshine!” scolds Regulus within an instant, honestly he doesnt even know what in himself wiled him to say it, he knows that James hates spoilers and that Jace had just spoiled the whole move.
He watches as James’ entire face changes from anger to sadness, he looks up at Sirius, “I’m going to your room” he mumbles and briskly leaves the room.
The rest of the movie is watched in silence by others, no ohs no laughs no reactions, it’s only Jace doing his usual commentry like he can’t even see the awkwardness that has enveloped the room.

Eventually it’s time to leave and Regulus walks Jace out, deciding he needs to ask him about him and James and whatever the fuck happened.
“Hey Jace?”
“Yea?”
“Whats up between you and James”
“Oh that, we dated back in highschool”
“Bad breakup” asks Regulus, but honestly he can’t believe how anyone could break up with James’
“I guess you could say that, in the beginning our relationship was one like the movies, he was enamoured in me as i was him”
“What changed?”
“After a while, i dont know what happened but he started to control everything i did, who i could and could not hang out with. You know how much i love meeting new people, i was a footballer as well like him i gues he got jealous of that too i honestly do not know but eventually it wasnt just contolling. Slowly i started to realise what he was doing was wrong so i’d hold my own, thats when he got physical, after we broke up he turned it all around and blamed it on me”
Physical?
James?
No way?
“He is a right charmer, be careful Regulus. Try to distance yourself from him”

Regulus walks inside Sirius and Remus’ flat, Jace’s words spinning inside his head.
“Regulus.” Sirius’ voice brings him out of whatever the fuck is going on in his brain.
“Hm?”
“Do you know who it is that you are dating?”
“James’ ex boyfriend, i’m aware”
“You cant date him,”
“Why? I wasn’t aware there was a rulebook of who i may or may not date.”
“Regulus he isn’t a good person”
“Funny, he told me the opposite”
“Of course he did” mutters Sirius, “he’s a manipulator Regulus, he makes out everyone but himself to be a bad person, he has more faces than goddamn Medusa.”
“Was all of that told you by James?”
“No. James would sooner die than talk shit about someone, its what i observed. James is a person who shines, brighter than the fucking sun, but when he was dating Jace his light, it was dim almost gone, he wasn’t sleeping. Jace tended to make off-handed comments about James and i’m pretty sure it affected him ore than he let on”
“Do you think didn’t tell me all that James did? Have you ever thought it wasn’t what you thought it was? That maybe your bestfriend isn’t all sunshine and rainbows”
Sirius looks taken aback, “you cant seriously believe that James would hurt someone”
Truth be told he is having a goddamn war inside his head right now, while his brain is screaming at him to not believe Jace, hsi heart is telling to believe him boyfriend
“What if i do?”
“Damn, you’re gonna forget everything about you know about someone who you have known for 5 years, as soon as you found someone who you’d like to fuck? You’re pathetic”
“Or maybe he actually likes me, someone who actually deserves love, unlike James.” says Regulus, spitting out pure venom
Oh and even saying those words drives a dagger through Regulus’ heart. There’s a sound in the back of the room, like a whimper and both of the Black brothers look towards the source of the sound and the see James standing there as a tear escapes his eyes.
At that moment Regulus this might just be the first time hes ever seen a tear fall out the beautiful brown eyes of James
“I was leaving, sorry” and just like that James leaves not looking up the whole way to the door.
“If he actually likes you has he ever gotten you dandelions? Blue ones to be exact because i could bet my arse he always gets you purple peonies”
Regulus looks down, because it’s true. Jace aways got him peonies, more often purple than not eventhough Regulus hates peonies with a passion, something that has cause many arguments in his and James’ flat for the boy loves peonies while Regulus hates them.
“Look i’m not going to listen to you Sirius, i have found someone i really llike and who actually likes me back-” regullus pointedly ignores Sirius’ whisper of ‘bullshit’ “- and i will do all in my power to keep him mine, i’m going to treat him well something James clearly failed to do so.”
Sirius lets out a humorless, dry laugh, “when he breaks you, know this Regulus i won’t be there for you, i know James will because he doesn’t give a damn about himself but may i be damned if i help you after what you just said, and don’t you dare go home tonight, stay here don’t you fucking dare hurt him more”
