The nightmare
It was getting late when James and Sirius finally returned to the Gryffindor common room from quidditch practice. They had stayed late to play a game just the two of them not noticing the time flying by until they saw the sun down by the horizon. Their laughter could be heard from far and the one student still in the common room could hear them before the portrait even swung to the side and revealed the hole in the wall. At least he would have if he’d managed to stay awake. Sirius was the first to enter and notice Remus half sitting half lying on the old worn sofa, book fallen to the floor. He mediately signalled to James to quiet down, James not getting the hint continued talking until he reached the sofa and saw Remus. He smiled and told Sirius to leave him alone. Not wanting to wake Remus Sirius did like told and they continued to their dorm to shower. Before going to bed Sirius snuck back down to the common room. He picked up the book Remus been reading and grabbed one of the blankets to pull over Remus. While doing so Remus woke up.
At first he looked confused, not quiet managing to put together the pieces of what was happening. He wasn’t in his bed and Sirius was standing over him. He sat up surprising Sirius who thought he was still asleep.
-” Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up, I just didn’t want you to get cold.” Sirius looked at him feeling guilty.
-” It’s okay, I should sleep in my bed anyways.”
Remus stood up, folded the blanket neatly before placing it down on the sofa and grabbed his book from the table before making his way to their dorm. Sirius followed him up the stairs but stopped in the doorway just watching him. He saw Remus grab his pyjamas before entering the bathroom to change and brush his teeth. He was still standing there when Remus re-entered the room and gave him a confused look.
- “What are you doing?” Remus said confused.
- “Nothing, just watching.” Sirius simply replied while smiling at his friend.
Remus just smiled back, shrugged his shoulders and tiredly made his way to bed, falling asleep within minutes. Sirius smiled at his friend who looked so peaceful asleep in his bed.
Sirius jerked awake. Not knowing what had woken him he looked at the clock, two in the morning. He was just about to lay back down when he heard what had woken him up to begin with. Remus was twisting and turning vigorously in his bed mumbling in his sleep. Sirius waited a minute to see if his friend would calm down but instead Remus mumbles turned in to occasional screams. He jumped out of bed and hurried over to Remus. When all attempts to wake him failed Sirius climbed into Remus bed and held him tightly. At first Remus tried to fight him of until he woke up with a jerk, sitting up and hyperventilating. Sirius continued hugging Remus sweaty and shaking body.
-” It’s okay, you’re safe here.” Sirius said this as calmly as he could while swaying back and forth with Remus in a calming motion. They just sat like that, swaying back and forth, for the next half hour until Remus hyperventilating had turned into heavy breaths. He’d fallen asleep leaning against Sirius shoulder. Sirius carefully laid down with Remus head still on his shoulder, falling asleep listening to his breaths.
