Strays and Portals - khr
She is a Lighting Cloud with Classic leanings on both said and unwanted. What's another Lightning in a Famiglia of them and her Cloud Flames aren't what you'd call strong.
She hasn't a territory yet. They won't let her form one here.
Her Cloudy side is just enough to make her stubborn and untractable.
It’s the nineteen seventies.
Her Famiglia, the Bovino, dump a child on her to care for.
The child has an unknown sire and while Flame Active, it’s not Lightning so they’re not fussed.
The mother died in childbirth which was when the kid went Active. It was a rough birth.
The mother was the Don’s fave cousin so the kid isn’t just chucked into an orphanage.
She disliked her treatment and what they felt were ‘appropriate’ lessons for a female Lightning (aka bullet catcher, experimental subject, marriage bait, honey trap) and the kid doesn’t like it either. They want to see more than just the compound or a few rooms in it.
At thirteen and when the kid was four, she heard plans to step up her ‘training’.
Since her cub wanted out and she was NOT amenable she packed their few things, wrote out a note and left.
It wasn't like anyone kept track of her comings and goings. Having the kid with her was new but not really noticed.
The note didn’t say much. It was along the lines of ‘you don’t value us and we are not useful here, so, we’re leaving.’.
They really should have taken more care with her Cloudy side.
She’d already popped with her Flames and her focused Lightning nature would let give up on developing those Cloud traits… and Flames.
They had discounted her.
Called her not ‘a real Cloud’ and her Lightning nature wouldn’t let it go.
They had insulted and disregarded her, so she developed her Cloud until it was almost more useful than her Lightning.
Hardened Propogated Constructions, strength and agility. They were going to RUE disregarding her.
Since her home territory had rejected her, she left.
The cub wanted to wander, so they would wander.
She could pick up work as they went, or steal, or do hits. She cared for very few people after all.
She wanted to see if they could find more like the cub.
She dresses them both as boys.
They have an odd habit of turning up in unusual, out-of-the-way, hidden nooks.
The thing they stumbled through, some sort of Portal she now realizes, but she can't regret it. They'll just have to find it again later.
It's a weird place. Weirder even than the crazies in the Flame Mafia.
At least none of them had looked like an octopus/ human hybrid, people with horns, or fins or claws, with sparkly skin or eyes, just walking down the street like it was completely normal. That was so, so weird...
Picks up a greenette whose mother is dosing him with unprescribed antidepressants as they can't afford a therapist if one would even pick him up. Quirklessness, whatever that means, is apparently a bad thing.
The blond he’s ‘friends’ with is beat up at home despite everyone else sucking up. He can’t believe that of aunty but it makes sense.
Sometimes the greenette is more twitchy than at others. Everyone thought that was just him but it was actually the times the meds he was dosed with were wearing off due to supply interruptions.
He doesn’t WANT to believe it but then the greenette, Izuku, hates believing that Aunty hurts Kacchan and Uncle just lets her.
The kids are twelve ish.
Cloud/ Lightning is fifteen or sixteen and cub is eight or nine.
Greenette is going, no matter what. It’s not like anyone will care.
The brash blond is torn but the fact the L/C can flatten him and she is, technically, Quirkless.
They find an abused and muzzled purplenette and another little girl presenting gender fluid person whose parents aren’t really feeding her.
She has white hair, red eyes and a horn. Her actual Mama gave her away cause her Quirk accidentally killed her Papa.
She is hated.
Blondy is still ambivalent but they have yet to start middle school so he decides to wander with them for a bit.
Before they go, Izuku begins selling off his Hero Merch since most of it was ‘apologies/ bribes’.
That way he had at least SOME money to contribute. He keeps only the pieces that mean anything to him. The common stuff he leaves where it is unless it's directly useful like clothes or blankets.
He also manages to nick the packet of the medications being used on him.
Only the packet, not the contents so they can work out what it does, its side effects and what is likely to happen when coming off them.
She can teach them to read and write. They can go from there.
Mafia Children are taught several languages. English and Japanese are just two of them and she’s picked up several more since then.
They’re looking for the Portal back to their world.
They find it when the kids are fifteen or so, and, by then a half dozen more strays have been collected in a blood-loving boy, one with a disintegration Quirk, a Lightning male presenting girl who accidentally seriously hurt people with his Quirk when it manifest and everyone told him he was a Villain now, one who was a victim of the horn girls power and can reconstruct/ deconstruct things - he eight now.
Teaching them to live in the wandering life style gives her a sense of satisfaction.
The cub was hers, her territory but he wasn't ALL her territory.
She needs a pack, a family of her own... going to another world to find them hadn't been planned on but she doesn't regret it.
This world throws away so many people...
She almost wants to stay but her restlessness won't let her settle.
She isn't Inverted, it's just that she hasn't found all her Territory yet or a safe place to settle them...
