Sirius was addictive
april 6th, 1986
“what in God’s name are you doing?” James said from behind him, making Remus jump up.
“Jesus Fucking—”
“hey! hey, hey! no need to be disrespectful.” Remus rolled his eyes, feeling James’s eyes on him as he was unloading the dishwasher.
“first the washer, now this—”
“he told you about the washer?!”
even though he’d really rather not, Remus had to admit he wasn’t the brightest person in the room when it was about regular household supplies; and machinery, apparently.
this morning alone he had almost cut his finger off his hand while trying to make a smoothie, broken the dishwasher by rolling it out of the tracks, broke the shower head. (in his defense, he thought it was one of those you could take off the wall. it wasn’t)
it was just not something for him.
“come on,” James joined him, rolling the drawer out of the washer. “please just sit down or something, you’ll break it otherwise.”
Remus threw his hands up in the air in protest, but James was facing him with his hands on his hips; exactly like Euphemia would be standing on the (rare) occasion where she would get mad.
“oh sod off, will you?”
James laughed and started unloading again, drying the plates off one more time just to be sure they were clean.
“how’s it going?”
“with what?” Remus cocked an eyebrow.
“you and Pads.” he could see the mischievous smirk lingering on his face, Remus rolled his eyes. ‘was this the only thing they’d ask him about?’
“it’s good, normal.” Remus smiled. “how ‘bout you and Lils?”
a deep pink blush made its way onto his cheeks, even though James was trying his best to hide it. he put down a blue bowl he was holding, looking in Remus’s direction.
“i like her a lot.” James smiled. “a lot, a lot. i don’t think i’ve ever liked someone as much as i’ve liked her.”
“not even Sirius?” Remus gasped out, grin on his face.
“no one will ever be able to compare to what Sirius is to me.” he said, then turned to Remus. “don’t worry, i’m not looking to steal your boyfriend.”
Remus laughed. “didn’t really think you were.”
“good,” James closed the washer, and leaned onto the counter. “because no matter how much i love him; i have deep respect for you being in a relationship with him — anyone who’d be in a relationship with him, to be honest.”
James laughed out loud, grabbing two glasses from the cupboard, filling them with water and handing one to Remus.
“i do have deep respect for myself, too. tough life.”
“well, well, well,” Sirius was suddenly standing in the doorway; his hair messy and wearing some joggers and one of Remus’s jumpers. “love the way you talk about me, Moony.”
“he started!” Remus pointed towards James, who was laughing. “you know damn well!”
Sirius shook his head, pouting. “you lie. Jamesie would never.”
“shut up Pads.”
“that’s what you get for it, Jamesie.”
Remus had to stifle his laugh, as Sirius took his place next to him, kissing his cheek.
“get a room, or something.” Sirius shrugged at the statement.
“you wanna talk about what i walked in on this mor—”
“okay! okay! i’ll stop.” James threw his hands up in defense before Sirius could say anything else,
“now i’m curious,” Remus grinned. “what did you see Pads?”
James hid his face in embarrassment, shaking because of his laughter that seemed to be uncontrollable.
“i think you can imagine what i saw, Moons.”
“i’d really rather not.”
Peter was out with Marlene and Regulus; taking care of the neighbors’ dog. Lily and James were inside, supposedly watching a movie. Remus didn’t believe it but he really didn't have any sort of interest into knowing what they were actually up to.
Sirius was watering the plants, as he had promised Eliza a bit earlier. Remus was watching him from afar; sitting on the veranda steps.
the sun was setting, turning the sky a beautiful orange and purple color. it reflected onto Sirius beautifully. in Remus’s opinion, Sirius was truly the most beautiful person walking planet earth right now.
a lot of people said that about Sirius. people loved him, his looks, his personality; everything. but what Remus felt for him was so different.
the same words but the meaning behind them couldn’t be more different.
he wanted to keep Sirius with him forever. he would love him if he was only a couple of centimeters tall, he’d carry him around in his pocket, making sure he would still be able to see the world. even if he was a giant Remus would love him. Remus would love him if he was a painting, a book, a flower; anything.
there wasn’t any scenario in which Remus wouldn’t love him.
“liking the view?” Sirius yelled from across the garden, squinting at the amount of light.
“not really, you’re blocking it.” Remus smirked, seeing as Sirius poked his tongue out, then sitting down on the grass.
“come here for a sec, will you?” Sirius didn’t look up from the flower bed as he said it. “its a hedgehog, i think.”
Remus hurried his way towards that spot in the garden, sitting down next to him.
there was indeed a little hedgehog, it was quite small, could be a baby. it had its eyes closed, as Sirius carefully attempted to pick it up.
“is it…” Remus didn’t have time to finish his sentence, seeing as Sirius dropped it with a yelp.
“it bit me!”
“don’t be so dramatic.” Sirius elbowed him, pushing his (surprisingly enough) bleeding, finger into Remus’s face. “i am not blind! ew, don’t get close to my face with an infection!”
“well, i’m gonna need to clean it up anyways.” Sirius stated. “either you’re helping me, or you’re being a dick for leaving a wounded person on their own.”
Remus rolled his eyes. “i hate you.”
“love you too.”
the early morning of april 7th, 1986
Sirius was addictive. everything about him. even though Sirius appeared to have an ego bigger than most, Remus could tell he so desperately needed that affirmation he had lacked in his childhood.
Remus didn’t care about having to reassure him, even though Sirius would never admit to needing it. Remus would do anything for him, if it would make Sirius feel better.
despite it being awfully early in the morning, Remus had just gotten out of the shower, seeing Sirius laid out out on the bed, vast asleep. his chest was raising and falling slowly as he was breathing.
Remus watched him from afar, admiring him silently. he couldn’t help a smile.
but Sirius was still wearing those same clothes he was wearing in the garden earlier, and they were dirty. it was plain disrespectful to not only stay over at someone’s house for free, but then to dirty their sheets? no, Remus couldn’t bring himself to ignore it.
he walked towards him, running a hand through Sirius’s locks, kissing his cheek.
“come on, love.” Remus whispered, as soon as Sirius started stirring. “you need to change. the bed’s getting dirty.”
“mhmm…” Sirius still had his eyes closed, he was half asleep as Remus helped him get up.
“come on, you need to do something.”
“mhmmm… shut… up…” Sirius slurred out, making Remus laugh.
“please, you’re heavy…”
“mhmm…”
“and your hair looks bad—” Remus challenged, with a smirk on his face.
“no it doesn’t!” Sirius instantly sat up, eyes wide open. when he saw Remus’s grin, he hit his shoulder, with a laugh, too. “ah, i see what you did there, mister.”
Sirius got up from the bed, pushing Remus down in the process. turning to him a last time before walking into the bathroom, smiling.
“thanks.”
